Hearing this today, I got it (grokked it) more fully than before. The "past" and the "future" are constructed ideas, that are empty of any inherent, independent existence. They are conceptual ideas. And when I am in relation to those ideas as if they were real, then I am caught up within and identifying with the virtual reality of past/future that is running /playing out in my mind. Thanks, Adya!

Wrote this note to myself a couple of days ago, a prime example of spiritual future thinking. As always, Adya’s teaching is totally applicable! 🙂 - “Just lately I noticed that I have been busy searching for ‘more God’ for some time. But today remembered & realised that I already know God. That I have the nature of God-Love within and should spend my time recognising & being with that. Stop and let what’s already (& always) there, settle further in to my daily life. I’ve already seen the Truth of God, the Light & the Love that pervades all, so relax into that again and let it become more prominent.”

I love this. It's cool then to remember whenever we say "mindfulness" were usually referring to a translation of "Sati" which translated more directly is merely: remembering Thanks for sharing. That was really beautiful to read.

Yep almost all people live in a memorised past and an imagined future. Then they build a mind made bridge and constantly travel both way too the past and future. . Never realising there's only. Now. everything that has ever happened or will ever happen. Is all happening now.

I will always be of time, I am made of it, yet when I look within there is that which looks out, sees me and all things, which one am I truly, what is it to know oneself but to rest and be rested, dissolve into the heart of my being, to allow the day, to see, and touch and feel, to not focus on judgment and fear, to know my enemies yet see the innocence behind them, my prayer for the day I think❤️🙏

1:07 I experience it as the past being foundational and the future as possibilities- but you need to pick the ones you want, make sure you are prepared to achieve them….. now is happening all the time, you can’t live in the now without effecting your future.

My past is my conditiıned self buillt by my environment and ı think ( foolishly) ı can build a future with that past! Now if ı realize that truth what society had done to me how brained washed than ı can see what is goıng on in my mind and understand Yes understand what is happening in my brain in my body -know myself and be now , knowing there is past or future in my mind now , ı do not need to try to get rid of anything what ı need is to know my mind and my body be aware of what is going on in this system , that frees me from all ……

What does letting go of past and future look like in a practical sense?

Firstly, it’s a practical pointer for how to actually experience what you really are in the present moment. The thought-based identity lives in an imaginary timeline made up of snapshots of the past and imagined snapshots of the future. This makes it very difficult to perceive the simple, unadorned attentiveness looking through your eyes right now, spacious and undefined, unbound by any thought or time. So, “letting go of the past and future” can be an attempt to contact and perceive this “now self” by setting aside the imagined past/future self which, when looking from the Now, is seen to be not real…like a story about a river based on a photo as opposed to the river itself. Withdrawing from the past/future stories can create a gap in thought where what’s plainly looking through your eyes and hearing sounds right now may be noticed and known. Secondly, that’s it…once you are living from this river of now there is no past/future to let go of, life just moves how it moves. :)
