Nam Yoon Su was a rising star in the K-Drama industry, but after taking a role as a gay man in Love In The Big City, the public quickly turned on him. #kdrama #kdramas #koreandramas
yeah also most of the unhinged homophobes bullying him are some brainwashed indonesian muslim het girls who contribute nothing to his career anyway apart from delusional "oPpaR mArRY mE" comments so he should just ignore their bs and say "if you're so bigoted that you don't support homosexual people then don't call yourself my fan, good rid dance"
Why exactly are you disappointed? Are you paying him or managing him as an agency?? If his agency and he himself doesn't have any issue with playing a role of a gay man, you don't need to have one. Go find to do something better rather than hate.
@@maychongli5863 And what about portraying a pedo? You are confusing yourself with real pedo and someone whose job is acting. As long as the actor isn't a real pedo and is just purely acting for the sake of a project that will raise awareness about this issue, especially if the story is based on a real event.
This actor is so brave!!! I mean, taking a role in a BL series in Korea is really a challenge especially since they are not that open. And the biggest challenge for him is HE IS TAKING A ROLE OF A HIV POSITIVE GAY MAN. DAMN! YOU HAVE MY RESPECT!!! Even in Taiwan, Philippines, Japan or Thailand NEVER DID ONE BL SERIES ABOUT THIS TOPIC! DAMN! LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING IT!
I have no hate for anyone and I love everyone I will support but this actor didn’t do anything wrong so I will support this actor and my blessings and my praise are with you 💕✊🏾
He's an amazing young actor and I hope he ignores the haters and just keeps moving forward. Korea may still be stuck in the 1950s, the rest of the world is not, and we are watching too!
Netizens need to step back! The entertainment industry is brutal enough. Free will, pushing boundaries, or fighting for change is global. Freedom to choose what paths are taken throughout life are not for netizens to decide. Stop tearing these entertainers apart.
He’s literally always smiling in every clip ive seen of him he’s so kind. I genuinely have never seen him before watching this video but I’ve watched a couple videos of him since then. He seems to be genuinely king and humble which is hard to find these days
I don't normally respond to controversies, but this really gets to me. I don't understand why people get so upset when a celebrity they claim to like and follow does something the fan doesn't like or agree with, when that thing doesn't have a direct impact on their personal lives, and then proceed to basically crucify the celebrity. If it's something illegal or actually causes harm, that's one thing. A celebrity's personal choices in what projects to take on, that's something else entirely.
That’s just people. It baffles me too and I don’t like it either. Unfortunately, it’s very common human behavior. And all we can do is continue to stand up and speak and encourage kindness and respect and love for all people.
I don't understand people getting unnecessarily angry and cruel but I do understand being disappointed and turned off. Heterosexual females are the largest fanbase for k-drama heart throbs and nothing kills female romance fantasies like envisioning their male celebrity crushes as gay.
@@adw802he is an actor! His job is to act in any project/role he chooses. Us Females should keep that in mind instead of being brainless and stuck in stone age.
@@i.misfit.i Actors create fantasy for their fans. Stone Age? Is it progressive for women to like their men gay? Ridiculous - how many Hollywood A-list actors take on gay roles? It's rare because they won't risk breaking the fantasy/image for their largest and most dedicated fanbase - straight women. It is only natural for healthy hetero women to want their men 100% masculine, 100% sexually repulsed by other men and 100% sexually obsessed with women.
My grandson is gay .. thank god that we live in the West and not in Asia. My grandson lives a happy secure life with his partner and has the support of all his family. Cant believe that an actor who is just playing a gay part to be demonised by a minority of hateful Netizens.Who are these people. South Korea aren't shy in making Bl dramas and even shipping non gay actors and yet in real life gay men are shunned in public..Sad state of affairs..
@@starlight14673 The way the government and people from the Middle East treat minorities is horrible. Not only for sexual minorities but for people of other religions as well.
Korea is one of the countries which opened itself to the influence of Christian missionaries in the late 19th century. although less than a third of Korean citizens identify as Christians, the country has adopted a lot of mores and moral concepts from these missionaries and it influenced even the law. add to that the tendency of many Asian cultures to revere older generations and ancestors and to favour social conformism over individualism and you have most of the answer. even liberal democracies in the west weren't much better until very recently. we may have changed some of the most discriminatory laws but that happened within the past 25yrs, most of it during the past 10yrs. no reason to be proud or feel morally superior. Korea is changing too, only a bit slower.
they love these kinds of topics in kdramas.. even bullying, corruptions, mistresses, and family hating each other.. they love all these types of dramas where they are mirrored to some koreans
@@FAM_hee I feel the exact same for your and your bigoted ways. may God help you find love and acceptance for others so you don’t go around spreading hate. it’s the worst when people hide behind God and religion to justify hating and causing pain in others, and feeling righteous about it.

Inspiring. Was a fan before, bigger fan now. Hate like this from 'netizens,' but no noise about the misogyny and violence against women in "Good Partner" that is just glossed over beyond being part of the story line. Two women LAWYER characters are threatened with violence by a wealthy abuser and they don't even tell anyone. Those same characters and all of the male characters refuse to "believe" a battered woman and she actually dies. I guess I'll never understand. Big respect to Nam Yoon Su for his trailblazing. He's on the right side of history, netizens are not.
STH KOREA, catch up with the world. He is an "ACTOR " and hasnt sullied his image but buffed it up and is shining brighter. Thank you Nam Yoon Su. Stay well 💚🐝
Why someone would boycott and send hateful messages to an actor just because they don’t agree with the roles he’s taking is upsetting. If you don’t agree with the subject of the film, then don’t watch. Please don’t be personally offended by their choice. Actors should take on different roles to improve their acting skills and not be stuck playing the same type of character over and over. I’m curious if the singer/actor Ok Taec-yeon is getting the same hateful messages and boycotts for his new role in the upcoming film Soul Mate.
Congratulations on highlighting this. An excellent post. 👏As a drama fan Tom Hanks playing a gay role in Philadelphia Story won him an Oscar. An artist portraying a gay HIV character decades later makes one wonder what happened. Admiration to the actor for selfless act of being a donor & for taking on a challenging interesting role. Addiction with Johnny Huang & Timmy Xu faced similiar challenges but from the Chinese government. They were rookie actors but their portrayal of complex iconic characters still resonates.
*Actor plays LGBTQ role* Fans : What? Dissapointed, Cancelled 🤢😬😔🤬 *Actor plays toxic/psycopath/killer/kidnaper roles* Fans : Omg! I wish he can do that to me and I will say thanks! 😍😍😍😍 That is how literally crazy fans are, most of these fan are coming from south-east asian country :)
I mean he is an actor a good actor should act in all roles no matter what and I can't believe what is happening that we are in 2024 and there are still people like this and I also want to say to the haters if you don't like the idea of a drama just don't watch it no one is forcing you to watch a drama. Also you won't die if a drama is shown on screen and it won't be the end of the world so calm down.
FYI: Jake Gylenhaal and Heath Ledger are famous straight American actors who took gay roles in the movie Brokeback Mountain. I can't believe some people are still living under a rock.
Korean culture is more conservative than Western cultures. I’ve lived here for almost 5 years and it’s a very heteronormative society and the word “gay” is used as a joke.
Lol, you're referencing a single film that is nearly 25 years old, one that didn't help the careers of Heath or Jake at all. Why pretend like the rest of the World is so much more progressive? Hollywood A-list heart throb actors still do not take on gay roles in 2024, there simply isn't a sufficient market for it and such roles would hurt more than help an actor's career.
Lol... Ji chang Wook work in queen woo gets criticized now him... do these people work as casting directors... They are actors and they show their skills, actors meaning would be able to work in any genre... wake up people you don't decide their work they decide and with commitments they act in any genre they accept.. We should admire the roles they play...
When international fans keep sending him positive comments. Its so sad that his own kind try to push him down. Crazy right! I’m not into BL dramas, but I am a fan of Nam Yoon Su. I probably won’t watch this drama, but not due to hate. I just don’t have enough time to watch kdramas as often as I’d like to.

Situations like this serves to highlight to the broader community where social attitudes lay. It displays how far a society has come and how much progress is still needed. A social statement may not have been his intention vs flexing his acting muscle, however, it holds that his role adds to the community's visibility and I applaud this young actor's bravery.
The narrowminded people who are hating on him for taking up such a wonderful and groundbreaking role should be ashamed of themselves. Yoonsu deserves better fans and he will be supported by those who truly love him and he will be praised by the world for being so brave to take this role despite living in a society where being gay is still considered taboo and unnatural. It's absolutely repulsive how people think they can act this way. Nam Yoonsu will be loved forever and ever and this drama will gain world wide popularity and success
nah honestly, he just lost fake fans who are conservative and who cannot see him grow as an actor. instead, he gained a whole community that has his back. let's support the series, the actors, everyone who has worked hard on this and were brave enough to do this. ❤️

I hate the hypocrisy that many people are portraying. If you don't support bl, that is fine don't watch it.But why bad mouth the actor? Also, there are a lot of big names in the industry who started their careers doing bl, yet i don't see people criticizing them, but he is getting tons of hate. I think anyone who doesn't support him because of this drama needs to get a grip on reality. He's an actor this is his job. Netizens are only showing their ignorance. It's 2024 life moves forward, whether people with narrow minds like it or not.
He is doing an awesome job exploring his portfolio as an actor. Well done!! ❤❤🎉🎉❤❤🎉🎉 Should he change his preference after, that is his private and personal life, not for anyone to dictate.
I dont know him... but he gained a me as a new fan! It is so so so brave for a famous person to do roles like this. Normal for us, but not normal in Korea sadly. I really love when known actors or singers do a role like this. I love it!!!
Not gonna lie but Korean netizens make the worst fans (I'm sure not all of them, but majority). I've never come across a more judgemental country for their own idols and actors. It's sad.
Double standard of Korean Netizen is alarming. They will ship male actors portraying heterosexuals in usual dramas but when the same actors take on leads for homosexual characters, they got a problem? What kind of logic is that? It's acting.
Accepting a gay role as a straight actor is already commendable, so much more as a Korean living in a conservative society. Much respect to these actors. ❤️🙌
The double standards between KDrama and KPop is laughable. In KPop male idols daily 'demonstrate' their attraction/affection towards each other, and the fans LOVE it. They even promote it. But when it comes to KDrama, what is it's frowned upon. Whether this particular is gay or not, who cares. In western society, there has been lots of actors who took on a gay role, it shows how they are prepared to broaden their diverse roles....it ADDS to their professionalism , not detract. Why do these followers want to put idols and actors on pedestals to worship them, only to act like they OWN THEM, and are ENTITLED to instruct them how to act, speak, perform, interact...and even who they want to have a relationship with, that's not allowed. It's bizarre, weird, and creepy. All those homophobic haters should be charged with Hate Crime. South Korea still has a long way to go, and I hope he continues to RISE .....Fighting 💪🍀✨️❤
I think that he is incredible. The Korean people really need to wake up. And let's be real for all those fake people they are homophobic and stupid. At least he kept it real. Good for him. He has my support and I pray that the entire worlds population will support him . He will gain major support. I pray❤❤❤❤
Shame on those people such toxic comments! He’s a great actor and this roll is pivotal!! Very few can carry off roles like this that talk about real issues!
Honestly, who are these people that constantly complain about anything and everything that actors/idols do? And please, don't keep bringing religion into it. If your religion tells you not do do something and you choose not to do it, then that's fine, but don't tell anybody else what is acceptable or not.
no type of creation can receive 100% admiration, so it's normal that some people will oppose it.. but I hope at least admiration was bigger than the opposition party 😞😞

I think he is a very good actor who is not afraid of confessions, takes risks and, above all, it is his profession. I admire him and wish him every success. and the discussion about him proves his professionalism. Greetings from Ireland
Korean netizens are sad, those so called fans were fake, not actual fans. Look around you Korea. It’s almost 2025, if you don’t certain things then don’t look. Wow, this just comes to show how versatile and talented he is! BL genre has become popular over the last 12 years in Korean entertainment, so I’m not sure why there’s people who are shocked and disgusted by this. I’m enjoying seeing his work grow, he plays his roles very well ❤
K-netizens can bite me! They think withdrawing their measly support is going to tank his career, ha! I think not. Let's make him even more famous and silence the haters.
So much respect for this actor. The role is a true representation of love and loss. I am so proud that this actor shows that love is love regardless of gender. People who attack actors should question their own words and behaviour of cruelty, hate and narrow minded views on love and acceptance.
Thank you for loving your father so much as to donate your kidney to him. I myself had to have a kidney transplant as Lupus SLE shut both of my native kidneys down within a month. I couldn't get a family donate so I had to wait on the list. I was fortunate to get a kidney and so now I have a soft love spot for live donors.
I don't think this is bl it's more a queer love story I think. The genre BL itself is more fantasy based and not really representative of being a LGBTQ+ person in reality although I think it has begun to shift to be more inclusive in more recent times. From my perspective as a gay person I still think there's a clear difference between the two tho and I respect this actor more for taking this role in a queer love story even more so then if he would have starred in a BL. Really cool to see!!
I pray for your poor soul to find truth and the way to God before you perish in hell. God still loves and cares for you, it's not too late to change. You can go read Romans 1:24-37

And I bet the same people who have turned on him gleefully ship male idols and actors while toxic masculinity goes unchallenged. I'm tired of dumb people cancelling people with undeserved hate.
Tom Hanks played an HIV positive gay man in the movie PHILADELPHIA. His career went on to soar to high heights. The whole concept behind being an ACTOR is to portray another person. This does not mean he is the person he portrays. It takes a TALENTED person to portray another character and do it with conviction.
Cancelled? A lot of fans/people are waiting for this to be released! I'm excited and I'm not his fan per say, but I'm excited for him for this project for any lgbt theme SK release. BL manwha is rockin' it, and seeing a focused gay themed story on screen is another upgrade. I know SK is very conservative in these topics but, it's okay, you don't have to hate it or cancel artists who promote/act on these. Just..look the other way cuz if it's not for you.
