Dear black gaming community, Black can be a samurai without Ubisoft’s dirty business. It would be really great, and I will support it if Black developers and Japanese developers make 'our samurai' together!
I'm a black guy. It's embarrassing when companies use us for the sake of politics, and damage the historical integrity of the medium they insert us into. It's disingenuous, and only creates more conflict.
Notice how no one wants to like this post because many yt ppl are just upset at the fact that its a black person. While Asians dont like it because it omitted an asian man as a protagonist.
Wait what?? Wouldn’t you see that as appropriation of your history and ancestors? I thought Yasuke here is one of the major reason why this petition exists. Plus the whole violence against Asians issue in America. I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a black character in Japan hurting Japanese NPCs and stuff like in AC Shadows. As a black gamer I’d rather see games on our African and diaspora’s warriors and cultures. There is no need to force ourselves in the warrior cultures of Japan or any other Eurasian region. It just wouldn’t make any sense unless it’s historically accurate of course.
@shoheikondo So a story made by white men, turned into a novel made by white men, turned into an anime made by white men, turned into a film made by white men, is now a game made by white men?...your problem is with white men seeking fame and fortune by distorting Japanese history. Not with Africans. Go take your issues up with the correct people. Also, there are 3,000 ethnicities, nationalities, and tribes within the African race. Just as their are many with in the Asian race. We aren't just "black."
@@admirekashiri9879 The Japanese outrage regarding Yasuke specifically is mainly due to Ubisoft officially claiming "historical accuracy"., despite there being no actual sources to confirm this. If Ubisoft had just stated from the start "There is a lot of debate regarding Yasuke's status as a samurai, our portrayal of Yasuke is just our original imagining of him, and does not reflect actual history" then the outrage would be far less. Of course, many, if not most, Japanese gamers are indeed disappointed that the samurai protag isn't Japanese... but that was only disappointment... compared to the anger over Ubisoft's attempted historical revisionism.
Cowardly, UBI only emphasizes in interviews for Japan that "this game is fiction." His attitude of using different words for Japan and outside of Japan has also angered Japanese people. Furthermore, Thomas Lockley uses the same tactic. In his publications and interviews for Japan only, he concludes that "it is unclear whether Yasuke was a samurai," but in overseas publications he introduces him as "a great samurai respected by the Japanese people." This method prevents Japanese people from noticing all the historical alterations and cultural appropriation. It is extremely malicious.
Yes Wikipedia is one of the reasons all of this started, but the main culprit to me is actually Thomas Lockley. Every books he wrote about Yasuke are used as facts by morons who want to "rewrite" japanese History. He also deliberately made sure that the japanese version of his books had some sentences "changed" or removed so that the japanese people couldn't see what he was claiming about Yasuke. I watched the video of a japanese man speaking in german and who was explaining the facts about all this, and tbh I'm just disgusted by Thomas Lockley. He basically used Yasuke, embelished/created his story (and claiming that it was factual), making him a "legendary samurai" and all that, just to get all the juicy money from selling these books.
When I was a student, my teachers always and countly emphasized that wikipedia is not a really a reliable source of information as random people can edit and change them. I done a lot of academic writings for assignments and needed to do a research everytime, I can only see wikipedia as the starting spark of the information but as a whole, it is not a good source. I hope people remember this.
Just like any encyclopedia.. Including Britannica Dont take their words straightky, but analyze where their references came from. It is credible reference or not
Nowadays you also have to consider that people like Thomas Lockley can see and article on wikipedia, write a book about that subject, publish it and then get cited as a primary source on wikipedia. This makes wikipedia, in some cases, even worse and could even invalidate it as the initial spark for information and/or research. If wikipedia doesn't want to drop off, it should really address this.
@@Schnittertm1most editors of Wikipedia cannot diffetentiate "primary source" with "secondary source" Secondary sources like Thomas Lockley should be treated as only opinion, not to be taken as "new evidence" Ive seen such examples too even in Japan wikipedia
It will be difficult as today's major game developers have no interest in being honest and true about Japanese culture. 現代の大手ゲーム開発者は日本文化について正直で真実であることに興味がないので難しいだろう
On July 8 at18:00 (Japan time), UbisoftJapan posted an apology regarding the theft of copyrighted material in concept art. However, the official Ubisoft account and the Assassin's Creed account do not mention it at all. A company that takes such cowardly measures is not qualified to talk about bushido.
The designs of the flags of modern gun and cavalry units, which were initially used without permission, will be included in the art book without any modifications, with the consent of the organizations. This means that it is highly likely that other images included in the art book will also be sold without any modifications. Many of the artworks were created using the photobashing technique, and it is inherently unacceptable to sell to consumers works that have borrowed various modern photographic materials without permission.
@@jugtcb5697 Thank you for mentioning that it is photobashing. Im a concept artist myself with over 10 years work experience, and i can confirm 100% that its done with photobashing. The reason its important that people knows this is because ive seen many claim that its done with AI, to make it seem like it wasnt done on purpose. But that is not the case at all, this was NOT done with AI, it was photobashed, meaning it was absolutely intentional, they used a photo stolen from the owner of the the original photo, using the design of someone else; the original flag designer(a group of reenactors from Japan) without their permision. I want more people to know this, ubisoft shouldnt be given the benefit of doubt, it was 100% theft, very unprofessional.
I'm sorry this is happening to Japan's history. It's been happening in the UK for a long time. Queen Anne Boleyn was played by a black woman in a tv show. The BBC have a new show with black Anglo Saxons. If anyone complains they are immediately branded a racist. The same playbook is now being used against Japanese people who disagree with race swapping. I should of said the same playbook is now being used against Japanese people about historical accuracy.
They did the same with Cleopatra making her black when theres ample proof that she wasnt and they still had the gall to call the Egipcians that dared to challenge their BS, racists. Its pathetic.
I'm amazed how people first justified these choices for themselves by stating: "These are historical facts, so deal with it". After being confronted with the respone from the Japanese people, these same non-Japanese people now say "It's just a game, you're reading too much into it". It's as if they are blinded from the truth, like the story "The Emperor’s New Clothes", in which DEI in AC: Shadows is the new imaginary "fabric of dreams" people don't want to admit is fake.
@@MavethTheReaper On the product introduction pages for Xbox and other devices, he is described as a legendary samurai from historical fact, so no matter how much he is described as fiction in the game, it is meaningless. Those who defend it talk about what happens inside the game, while those who criticize it talk about the real world outside the game. This is where the difference in perceptions makes the debate impossible. We Japanese are angry about the cultural erosion of reality. And the word "Historical," which was there until recently, has been nerfed from various product introduction pages. Although they understand how deceitful and evil they are, they use primitive and underhanded tactics to conceal anything that puts them in a bad position and spend their time justifying themselves. Unless you are an Internet caveman, you would never resort to such a childish trick that leaves evidence on the Internet. This is what angers us Japanese the most.
@@RipaStar00 You don't get it. He was a slave... His real stories, struggles, and endurances should mean something. Yet? He is being used in the same way in life that is now being used in death. The report of the Society of Jesus has a description that Yasuke was fighting in the Nijo Imperial Palace which Nobutada was in. This is the part where Lewis Frois seems to have asked someone. He did this description after he asked someone. He might have heard in a rumor. In Honno-ji, most warriors and servants in a Oda family died in battle. They died in battle in the Nijo Imperial Palace, too. Only Yasuke who yielded, ran away from Honno-ji and Oda Urakusai who ran away from the Nijo Imperial Palace didn't die. ( except for servants and women, children and monks who couldn't fight ) Gyuichi Oota conducted an interview survey the people who survived. He wrote the Shincho-koki chronology but there isn't a description that Yasuke was fighting against an Akechi army in this book. Because even servants died in battle, if Yasuke was a warrior and samurai, he had to fight the enemy until death, but he yielded. The event of Honno-ji was not a Japanese usual war, it was coup. Because it was a coup, did Yasuke who couldn't defend Oda Nobunaga and Nobutada do the hara-kiri? He didn't do so. I think that a samurai committed suicide, feeling responsible. The Japanese don't think that Yasuke is a great respected samurai after the Japanese found his act. At the coming ages, Oda Urakusai who ran away from the Nijo Imperial Palace is a laughingstock actually. It gave Yasuke some presents from Nobunaga. Yasuke only got Fuchi ( salary ) and Noshituki-Sayamaki (small sword as a gift) and Shi-taku ( a house not a mansion ). Moreover, his work was Dougu-mochi (carring luggae) not Katana-mochi (sword holder) or Kosyo (page). His status were Tyugen ( samurai family servant ).He wasn't a samurai and warrior.
I am not a Japanese but as an asian, I will never support a game that literally desecrated the culture that we've been protecting for hundred of years.
I try to relate in my own way to this fight i am german American we immigrated here when the world war started. To me it would be like them saying another race took part in our war killing my people. Also that we were the bad guy and if we spoke up about us being replaced by another person by race. Yet they claim its historically accurate. My grandad was a rebel fighter during the nazi regime i would be so angry if everything he did to fight that group was brought back and they made him a black guy. Ignoring my own culture fighting back. If we let Sweet Baby inc decide history all cultures will be replaced by black people. Then told if we dont like it we are the racist.
Needless to say even though im a Assassins Creed fan loved it since the first one on PS3. I will not be buying AC Shadows. I didnt buy Odyssey or Valhalla either for not liking the pure rpg thing. I wont be buying Shadows because of DEI.

It is only a small group of people in the west doing this. Their world view does not honor tradition, or history, but rather focuses on subverting them. They are strangely obsessed with replacing characters with black people when possible.
Cleopatra is mixed race and is documented to not even closed to be of beauty. Yasuke history is vague.. we are not sure if was was considered a samurai or acted as such. But regardless the racism against others has to stop
To think ubi advocates so hard for DEI but openly disrespects japanese culture/history labeling anyone who speaks truth a racist, also uses yasuke because of his skin colour out of corperate greed for esg money! and they think they're the good guys???
They shit on Ghost of Tsushima like madmen, which was crafted with pure love for Japanese history. Then they turn around and say "we can do it too" but makes a sword bearer a "black power" main character... I'm sick of DEI.

I am a disabled veteran who retired early due to my disability. I then started gaming full time on top of the fact that I was already a history nerd. I naturally fell in love with the Assassin's Creed (AC) franchise because it checked a lot of boxes (not dei boxes) for me. I have played all of the AC titles at least twice and one in particular I have invested more than 4K hours in. Most Assassin's Creed games are the same. You start out as an ORDINARY CITIZEN from the land it is set in. You end up joining the Assassin's to fight against the Templars who are looking for--or already using--ancient alien tech to win the conflict and enslave the populus. The games are usually set in important time periods like, The Crusades, American Revolution, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and so on. Your ORDINARY FICTITIOUS character interacts with actual historical figures from those major events in a very historically accurate setting. Ubisoft AC shadows is chasing ESG points with subpar DEI hires and that's why they fail on all fronts with this game and it is an AC game in title only. I am immensely disappointed because I have dreaming of this game since I first found the franchise. Before I became disabled I was an athlete and a martial artist. I have my own katana made of high carbon folded steel and a decent background in Japanese history. EVERYONE knows why ubisoft is making a black protagonist for this game and it is really insulting to history buffs, intelligent gamers, and most importantly the Japanese people. This would have been my favorite AC game and I would have gladly spent a lot of money on it. However, I will pass on this game and probably by a PS5 (I play on xbox) just to play Ghost of Tsushima. Yes, I would much rather spend that much money on another platform to play their Samurai game then play the insulting steaming pile of crap known as shadows.
People saying "only a game" are the same ppl who say "only a tv show, only a movie" when some franchise is being disrespected and ruined. Theyve never played old AC games too. Old games were using historical aspects, architecture but overall game was fictional, now AC shadows is other way around. They overall game tries to be historically accurate but they twist facts and make it fictional. They could create NOTRE DAME 1:1 but they can make japanese land 1:1 , there are chinese structures, there are torii gates leading to village not temple, sakura blossoming during rice harvesting.... there are so much wrong in this game.
you know that many of that very same people will protest and riot when the "fictions", game, movie etc, offend them. or worse, offend the people they align with
Also just wanna point out this is the very first time they've used a real person in history as the main playable character, all while doing this. The fake characters are what gave them more free reign with the historical accuracy (or lack thereof) and allowed us to suspend disbelief but Yasuke actually existed and is being completely misrepresented, and imo its just kinda weird at least in this series to actually be playing a real person. Its just very obviously done for pandering/DEI reasons
@@gamer7916 Again make a fake ass game idc but don't say its historically accurate and change wiki articles and gaslight like "he was totally a samurai trust me bro," like why does everyone arguing for this ignore that part, which he literally shows in the video they are trying to pass the game off as accurate in "learning about this time period." And also you know what would also give them a lot of freedom with the narrative? Making a fictional character. I mean aside from my original point this is also the first time they had a main character not native to the setting. Again, its just pandering and all this honestly just comes off as fanboy cope, people doing massive amounts of mental gymnastics to be dismissive of valid concerns with the game.

There are also books claiming "black" positions in old European history, just like they did with Yasuke. Even going as far as to say the original Europeans were black. This is a pattern of behavior. Even if you just normalize it in entertainment, dumb people actually start to believe it and argue that is the case. "'AFRICAN SAMURAI' by Geoffrey Girard and Thomas Lockley The fact that this is being sold as nonfiction is the root of all the problems. Historical nonfiction should, in principle, be written based on historical facts, and distorting these facts is not permissible. Yasuke is a figure about whom very little historical record remains. The descriptions of his relationship with Daikokuten, as well as the accounts of him protecting Nobunaga's head, are unique interpretations based on folklore-level stories without historical documentation. There are no records of Yasuke after the Honnō-ji Incident. I believe it is highly problematic for authors to significantly embellish non-factual information, distort historical facts, and then promote such work as historical nonfiction.
Yet, two western developers from sucker punch are officially ambassadors of tsushima island. Because they actually respected Japan's culture and was praised by everyone. The same idiots that defend shadows, basically tried to cancel out Ghost of Tsushima.
It was hilarious they shamed sucker punch for making a Japanese game centered around Japanese culture while they themselves aren’t Japanese. But they are climbing over themselves to glaze and praise Ubisoft for making a game centered around Japanese culture while they themselves aren’t Japanese.
Thank you for talking about Thomas Lockley. I've seen westerners saying that he's an authority on japanese history because he works at a japanese university. I was sceptical of his supposed claims because he was the only historian cited as backing this claim, and he isn't even japanese. His book being fiction explains everything. I'm not sure what Lockley's intent was, but those who play along, I think they want to believe it's true, because it presents them an opportunity to call other ppl racist, so they can feel good about themselves. This anti-racist ideology is just meant to divide us and silence discussions. Simply questioning this narrative means you must hate blacks. Any issues between two races are described as racially motivated, without any evidence to back it up. And they don't even live up to their own standards. By rewriting history and making it seem like Yasuke was able to fully integrate into not just japanese society, but even aristocracy, they're denying the struggles of africans back then.
I never cared about the idea if Yasuke was a Samurai or not but instead someone telling a compelling story about him. Because being a black person in America I'm tired that every movie or show that wins awards is about my race being a victim oppressed by a government system thats still active. Yasuke was the only one that seems interesting story being told without sounding like he's being oppressed victimized by his skin color except being a foreigner but thats different. I would love for them to tackle a compelling story of Yasuke maybe have a movie first and turn it into a story. Also be cool of a what if history where what if Oda or his survived against Aketchi double cross.

Black isn't a problem, the problem is Ubisoft don't have the balls to make a game set in Africa let say for exemple the Zulu, a game only with black people, personnaly I would be ok with that, but trying to force a black character in 1560 Japana is ridiculous. I hope you agree with me on this.
There are Japanese games that have Yasuke in them, and none of the Japanese complain. This is because they see it as a fiction and one game character. But the worst thing about UBI is that they claim that their sloppy historical research is historical fact, and they refuse to admit that they are wrong. Japanese buildings, culture, the concept of the four seasons. I think that's why people are complaining so much about Yasuke, because he puts all these things on the back burner.
As an Australian who visited Japan last year, I would agree to learn Japanese history from the locals than from the western world and Wikipedia. After coming across your video, this made me hate western entertainment even more, but it doesn't mean all of it sucks, it's the aspects that are appropriated in order to fit one's narrative instead of letting the audience see the the truth. Japanese culture is not alone, even some Irish folklore on Wikipedia is differently portrayed, claiming the werewolves of Ossory were savages when really, they were portrayed as kind and friendly to the crowd unlike most mythologies related to werewolves. It's best to take time in research before coming to conclusions. I love your video.
I stand with Shohei and I stand with Japan. Keep voicing this truth, Ubisoft's arrogance is something of a disgrace to us on the west right now. Japanese people know their own culture better than we do I'd think, so why are they doing this? They should fuckin travel, and visit Japan to actually understand before they prop someone up as "historian" of Japanese culture, who isn't even from there by the way. So yeah, Shohei you got yourself a follower - thank you for voicing this.

The woke cult often says asains are in the same camp as us white folk at present we get hated on and erased at every opportunity from our own culture. Seems the woke cult are after Asians as well. Idk how many times because i am german i am told by woke cult i have no culture and we should be erased from history.
These people look at the entire world through a western leftist point of view, so they lump all asian people together and call them "white-adjacent" for being too smart and civilized. So yes, they care about asian people the least. Every other "minority" has a higher priority. Glorifying an almost unknown black man is more important than respecting japanese history.
This video really does a great job of putting together all the various reasons in the timeline for how the myth became "fact"...we literally just watched history being rewritten like a game of telephone in real-time.
“Do you know? In France in the 15th century, there were Asian knights, and they were executing local French nobles” ↑ The French will be furious if they assert that this is not a fiction, but a historical fact. UBI did the same thing to the Japanese, so the Japanese are angry. Race is not a problem. The problem is that they corrected the history with the wrong values. This sentence is a translation. I'm sorry if I'm wrong.
It's simple, the only problem with this whole debacle is UBI's words and actions that it is "correct Japanese history" and "historical fact". It is exactly because of the "cultural theft", "historical revisionism", and "racist Japanese words and actions" that it is a problem (the other problem is the frequent use of intellectual property right materials without permission). As for Yasuke, even the Jesuit records, which are primary historical records, clearly state that he was a "servant" (and the story that "Yasuke was a slave" is also a later creation, or the result of using a 16th century word with a mistaken meaning in the 17th century and later). Surprisingly, primary historical documents regarding Yasuke exist, but they are ignored. The Jesuit baptismal records properly record Yasuke as being from Ethiopia, and the primary historical records of missionaries such as Froiss and Valignano also record Yasuke as being Ethiopian. By the way, "Yasuke being a black samurai" is not an issue in the fiction game. The problem is that it twists the historical fact that Yasuke was a black samurai, which is a Japanese historical fact. Do not confuse the two. In fact, there are stories about Yasuke being a samurai or a ninja in Japanese novels and joruri dramas of the Edo period as well as other creative works. Even after the Edo period, such creative works were produced in Japan. Such works have not been a problem in Japan because they are known to be creative works. To put what UBI is doing now in another example. In the US, President Lincoln was actually black and gay, that is a historical fact. In France, Jeanne d'Arc was actually black, transgender, and gay. I guess it is being voiced as a historical fact, and the wiki is being changed to that effect. Sorry if my English is strange, I am Japanese and I am machine translating sentences written in Japanese.
Wait a minute. It's really, really tedious to write in English. After that, it's too long and it looks like it's impossible without splitting it up. ちょっと待ってね。 英語で書くの、ホント、面倒で。 後、長いから分割させないと無理っぽい
There's this RU-vidr I used to watch for comedy skits called Mightykeef, and his tweets about all this DEI topics, especially pertaining to AC Shadows... man, what he says about it all is just absolutely appalling. He's one of the many examples of black people willing to slobber all over slop because they're being pandered to so hard these days. And, believe me, the people that I've seen responding in support for him have said and claimed so many bad things about Asian folks. I'm Asian, Filipino to be precise, and I'm just sick of all this. I used to love AC games, and I unironically learned a lot of history that matched directly with what I was studying back in high school and college... nowadays, history is being twisted in so many ways through mainstream media, games, movies, etc. It's tiring. I don't know what's worse. The corporations/companies that are so obsessed with this revisionist trend... or the people that are so blinded by it all that they'd be willing to be racist themselves because, to them, it's not racism if it's against Asians... because we're supposedly white-adjacent. There's nothing wrong with being light-skinned. More people used to stand up for the content of an individual's character... up until the 2015-2016 years. And it's all only gotten worse since. Whatever race, ethnicity, nationality, etc. you are, if you can properly think for yourself and see through all the lies, you have my utmost respect.
I 100% agree with your comments on this matter. This is blatant cultural appropriation and the fact that they gaslight and call every single dissenting voice a "racist, bigot, etc" just shows how entrenched the hipocrisy is in their weak little minds. I stand with the Japanese people and i will not purchase or even play this insulting product.
Ubisoft is racist company. They slaved Yasuke, sold him and now they still use him for their DEI marketing. They put him into this culture war. I hate Ubisoft for this. I hope this game flops and make them lose money.
Thank you for providing clarity and actual documented evidence outside of Wikipedia. I have been an Assassin’s Creed fan for years but this is one game I cannot support.
As a Hawaiian, I would be offended, heartbroken and livid if someone misrepresented my heritage to such a degree. It's so blatant and unapologetically disrespectful. So I completely understand and support the outrage against this game and Ubisoft.
History is always under constant attack and unfortunately they're not only going after Japanese culture, but also Greek, Roman, Egyptian and many others. Great video. I hope more people will speak about this and I hope your channel continues to grow. Never be afraid to speak the truth.
I think i understand what hes saying as far as the woke cult is concerned black people were the backbone of every cultural advancement in the wokes religion.
I am american, from a state called Georgia, I will NOT be buying this game, I stand with the mighty Japanese people and their beautiful culture and history.
Wait, so Lockley found out about Yasuke through Wiki before he wrote the book? But now the Wiki editors are claiming that Yasuke is a samurai using Lockley’s book as proof. What?
@@admirekashiri9879 Rock Lee was in Japan. He writes novels based on ancient Japanese documents. The reason why we today know about Yasuke is because of the original Japanese ancient documents. There are only a few lines written about Yasuke in ancient documents. There is no record that Yasuke was a samurai. However, Rock Lee made Yasuke a samurai in his delusion. He imagined fictional greats for his business. He is the worst because he uses black people to make money.
I’ve been a huge fan of Japanese culture for 12 years now and yet, I won’t play Shadows even if people begged me to or called me a far rightist! I’m a gamer, not a lowlife!
The fact that Ubisoft is trying to rewrite history and it's dismissing the comments of actual japanese people, who bring forth evidence of their deeds, is even more disrespectful than what is portrayed in the game.
@@rjc0234 not gonna argue, but in this case the protagonist is an actual historical figure, who Ubi have twisted and made into something he is not. It's one thing to fistfight the pope, but it's another to claim you are making a historically accurate game, and that people 'can learn history while playing the game'.
@@rjc0234 All past AC historical figures were secondary characters. This is what yasuke should have been for AC Japan. A fictional Japanese samurai shinobi should have been the male mc alongside Naoe. This was that simple.
@@DiscussThingu never played AC and it showed.😂 in AC valhalla they had reincarnated false gods. With unicorns and things of that nature. In the latest shame mirage they had reincarnated false god loki. In origins u see ceaser and cleopatra doing things that NEVER happened. AC is not for historical accuracy like u lie. Its for historically accurate settings and twisting history to fit the Templar vs creed brotherhood into the story. Accept Jesus Christ ❤
@@snowshock8958they weren’t making a Japan game but a yasuke game. Just bcs he’s black he can’t get a game what kind of logic. He has movies and many more media so it’s smart to make a game for him. The only woke thing they done is make him g@y and play hip hop music. Ts guy lit never made av content and complains now its his biggest vid. I bet he will ride the wave for a few more vids
Ubisoft and many people seem to not understand what it means to be a historical fantasy/fiction game either. It is a game where it's set in a real world historical setting with plausible events. You can play the game and go "hmm that might have happened". Those people arguing for Ubisoft seems to confuse "historical fiction games" with "fantasy games with historical setting". Medal of Honor (1999), Kingdom: Come Deliverance (2018) and Red Dead Redemption (2010) are examples of historical fiction game. I could daresay even Assassin's Creed II is a historical fiction game (if you take out all the animus part). Sekiro (2019), For Honor (2017), and Nioh (2017) are all fantasy games set with historical setting. These are games that used a historical setting as a set-piece but it's very obvious not historically accurate. Assassin's Creed: Shadows is just a fantasy game set in a wildly inaccurate Japan (seasons and culture are all messed up) and trying to pass off as historically accurate game. It felt like a game dev student who did some basic research, and put together a game that vaguely references old Japan. If you have immersed yourself in Japanese culture, you will know how important seasons are to the Japanese, especially when you read about the 百人一首 (hyakunin isshu), which is a collection of 100+ poems written by various Japanese poets and emperors in the past- many of them talked about the seasons. Literally, the first poem talked about the hardships of a farmer during autumn. So screw Ubisoft. I don't like them trying to grandstand everyone, thinking they are above the "lowly and uneducated commoners", using black people as a shield, and disrespecting Asian culture. And I hate that it worked on so many ignorant people.
There are already many people who cannot recognize Yasuke's anime or Yasuke's fiction as fiction, so it has become a subject of festivals in Brazil. This game, which has many depictions that show no respect for Japanese history and culture, spreads incorrect images of Japanese people and also feels that Ubi has racist ideas, Japanese people are opposed to it because it will worsen this situation.
I found your video playing ghost of tashima and it was so interesting and awesome watching your reactions and learning. Right when I seen this video I knew what was coming lol bc I feel the same and I don't even know Japanese history and was mad bc it's so upfront.
I had never even heard of Yasuke until I discovered this game by Ubisoft. We Japanese have found many pieces of evidence that Yasuke was not a Samurai.Yasuke was "neither an Bushi or a Samurai." This is a fact of Japanese history. At that time, there was no "Bushi or Samurai" named Yasuke. Please imagine. To have things said to have happened in your country's history that never happened. Things that have no evidence are being claimed as "facts." That this is being deliberately spread as a historical fact. I feel angry. I feel very angry towards Ubisoft. Once again, Yasuke was "Not an Bushi or a Samurai." This is a "historical fact" and "Japanese history." We Japanese have a lot of evidence. We reject and will absolutely prevent any alteration to the proud history and culture of the Japanese people.
How would he even earn the title in the first place? Most black people would like to believe he "fought" to gain it but that's just unlikely, I mean for one most japanese bushi wouldn't have listened to him due to a communication barrier or the mistrust against foreigners at the time period so he wouldn't be an effective commander. Another thing is his size and skin color which would do him no good at all, he would be spotted more than the average japanese warrior and would be a bigger target for the enemy Another thing is that the only "legendary" aspect he has is being "black" and really didn't leave an impact on Japan.
I agree with your comment about more Japanese people talking about this. I’m white and British. If I were to talk about this or an American we will not even get listened to because their default for us is we are racist and only doing this out of hate (not true) but if people from Japan spoke about this more as this is your culture and history then people will eventually have to stop being proud and ignorant and listen to you otherwise they are just becoming the people they claim we are to them. It’s horrible what is happening here in the west and it’s just getting worse and the division is the worst I’ve ever seen in the years I’ve been alive in my country. It all feels like it’s being done on purpose.
I remember back when the first AC trailers came out, people complained that the crossbow that was used in the trailer wasn't historically accurate so Ubisoft decides to remove it entirely. Yes, there are massive gaps in history and filling that gaps with a storyline consisting of two shadowy factions secretly duking it out for control of the human race is going to take a few artistic liberties with what happens in history every now and then. We understand that part, yet that hasn't stop Ubisoft of the past for putting in the work to properly respect the time period and location of their next assassin's creed game. What they are doing now feels like the opposite of what they were doing back then with how their disregarding the rich Japanese history that the setting is set in in order to focus on telling THEIR kind of story.
Ubisoft back then was a pretty good company. Now it's just a joke company most of the time. AC became fantasy more and more now with player fighting a minotaur.. but the irony is that they don't admit that it's now fantasy game series through and through. Instead they keep claiming historical accuracy when in fact most of the newer games have been more and more fantasy
Even if they outright say its all fiction, the idea that we are experiencing Japan through the eyes of a non Japanese is a FAIL. I don't care if its 100% fiction at this point. That is NOT the point. AC has always been great at giving us an immersion into a different region each time. In Black Flag I play as the English in the New World, in AC1 I play as Altair in Damascus, in AC2 as an Italian Ezio in Italy, in AC Odyssey I play as a Greek (male or female) in Greece. It is PART of the immersion. In Valhala its Vikings. In Origin its Egyptians. Why is Japan not part of the same rule or immersion? They went OUT of their way to force a Japanese role to a black person. Not cool. End of story. If you want to make a cool game on Yasuke, go for it. But not in AC. Either the franchise sticks to some basics or fk off. Each country we visit we are immersed in that country and its culture. Why am I being forced to be immersed in Japanese culture from someone not of Japanese culture? The fact that they ALSO call it historical fiction adds even more salt to the wound. Comments the likes of "you can play as Naoe if you want a Japanese"... Do I look like I want to play with a female ninja? So let me get this straight, you people made it a whooooooole issue that females are not represented in games so we have to shoehorn the choice into everything now... But you are going to now tell me that my representation is also not important? lol. Simple. I want to play as a male, of that culture. End of story. Second silly comment: "You think if he is black will change the narrative in any way?"... Are you joking? How can it not? How can the "sticking out like a sore thumb from another country" not change the narrative and have ZERO differences to a Japanese character? LOL. At this point, Ubisoft went full rtrd. They made AC Odyssey a choice, male or female, but chose their preference with "cAsaNdRa is CanOn", now they went full woke. We should all just go an buy Ghost of Tsushima and boycott this garbage period. I would even buy a second copy of GoT on PC or console after that as well to drive the point home. Almost as bad as Netflix making Achilleas black. LOL. At least Yasuke was actually black. I wont be surprised if in 5 years we get a black Nobunaga. "Why does it maaatteeeer, are you rciiiist?".... No, but you guys making these games sure are, because everything is about race to you, and if it doesn't matter, why race swap? Sad sorry little asylum creatures at their best. We should all vote with our wallets on this one and give it a hard pass. My god... The TWO regions I wanted in AC the most was Greece and Japan. I got to immerse myself in Greece. And now for Japan I am forced to play with a non-Japanese or a female... In a franchise that has ALWAYS been about immersing us in a specific culture. Yeah, fk off Ubisoft.

Einfach Japanisch done good explanation (use subtitle if you're not German speaker). There's no evidence Yasuke is a samurai, but also no evidence of Yasuke isn't a samurai. But, in universal agreement, he's not an important character in Sengoku Jidai and his journey in Japan is short. Now in my opinion, Thomas Lockey is an opportunist, abandon his past job as researcher. He was doing Yasuke book project before 2010, then shelved it because no one care. But when Wokeism rose around 2015 and then the black pandering happening, he's then restart his work on Yasuke book and release the Yasuke Legendary Black Samurai in 2019. Inside it are filled with fictional story that based on folk story and his own fiction story telling.
That’s just speculation there are recent interviews with him online. What he says actually does make sense but, for the most part the book fictionalises certain things based on certain historical facts which we cannot confirm applied to Yasuke for sure.
@@admirekashiri9879 It's fine to romanticized a historical character. Miyamoto Musashi, Romance Three Kingdom, the England-France 100 years of wars, Genghis Khan and many more. But those books & reading never self proclaim as historical accurate, all of them wrote "inspired by" or "Saga" or whatever, which mean it fictionalized/romanticized. Thomas Lockey's African Samurai/Yasuke wrote "a True Story" in the front cover. Man, the guy saw opportunity. I don't blame him. No one care of this guy before Yasuke book. I respect his hustle, but don't ask me to respect his ethic, cause he's abandoned when he decide to launch that book.
Found it funny how many people were quick to point to the Netflix anime .. without taking Into consideration that that show is made by an African American Named lesean Thomas
Ubisoft game studio practices are not great overall. I wouldn't mind if the Yasuke character was one of the many fictional characters in the Shadows story. Ubisoft presenting Yasuke as a true Samurai is what I don't agree with. Shadows could have been amazing because the last few AC games didn't have actual Assassin Creed's gameplay. In the end, it's Ubisoft "ethics" policies and their hubris that will hold back Shadows. Great video!
