The Truth | The Matrix MTX4 Pole Review 

Ben was 100% correct to call out this shoddy, floppy product.

I enjoy watching Tom and Dave's tackle reviews, and they always appear to me to be well balanced and fair. This review however felt to me as though there was a preconceived narrative to perhaps present the pole in a more favourable light. As others have said why not put similar priced poles next to each other and compare, see it with cars all the time. What it does show is the power of one man's influence so good for you Angling4U.

Middy xz65 is miles better for the price. Nice review Tom. Problem is poles are subjective to strength, height of the angler. Best advice is go sit with it yourself if you can. Remember your opinion is all that counts. If its right for you then doesnt matter what people think. Tight lines all.

I treated my self to the MTX 3 Package about a year and half ago, for around 1300 quid, with top kits, cupping kit, and a holdall. I can tell you it's an amazing piece of kit. So I can imagine the MTX 4 and 5 being great too!

Feels like this was a bit of a paid review. Didn't seem genuine, almost like they were making up for its flaws by overcompensating with the comments

This is a joke, at the start of it when he said "Matrix have sent us this pole to review" I knew it was a setup. It was pretty disrespectful to Ben imo, he's entitled to his opinion right or wrong.

i think BENS review was honest ive used and yes its floppy ive seen on the bank and yes its floopy .....Leave Ben alone hes allowed to his own opinion Im a diawa man best poles on the market

Bit of a bias review there lads 🤔 you can see the pole doesn't look it's best at 16 metres, also if you read the comments a lot of other anglers feel the same. Surely tackle reviews should be neutral? Dave was trying to be neutral but Tom wasn't having any of it 😅 Just makes you a bit wary of future reviews?

I got the MTX3 V1. Like everyone else my No3 and No4 sections shattered after a few months of use. I am convinced that the carbon got weaker over time. Hence the reason why Matrix beefed up the V2 versions. Lots of anglers were complaining about breakages. I ended up using a short No3 section and I have a No4 section from an MTX2. That was enough to beef it up to have confidence in it.

Good video and I do enjoy your reviews, however maybe would have been worth while comparing to at least two other poles in the same price bracket.

So it’s not actually being fished at 16m with the shorter top kits? As previously stated, the Middy 65-3, for the same money, is far, far superior.

I bought this pole as a step up from the mtx2 v1 power pole which i must say is fantastically strong i fish matches and have had some big carp out with it this is now my marjin pole . The mtx 4 v2 i find is so much better , mor comfortable to fish with and feels a lot lighter at 14m ( havent used it at 16m yet ) however when i fish at 13m with the dolly extension although its strong and nice for elbow pressure it feels more comfortable and balanced if i ues the 14m section instead . Although if fishing at 11m the butt extension comes into is own so much so i bought the reversible but for the 5/6 section for short fishig much better for your elbow on. Just my personal review of the pole but im enjoying it .

i held preston x70 and this mtx4 at full length at wickersley and to be honest there was not much between them! id go with matrix over x70 as just felt better balanced than preston x70

Looks to have too much bounce for my liking. Also from the side view, even though your sitting three feet above the water your still having to point the pole higher to compensate for the droop. I definitely think there are better poles out there for the same or less price point.

The question you asked about one below the flagship . . . Isn't that what Diawa have done with the Airty Pro 160? Who makes thd poles for Matrix? They probable make poles for other tackle brands as well using the same mandrels and carbons.

Unfortunately the camera angle used is always unflattering to even the flagship poles, I’d bet it looked straight from the side. At that price point performance at 14.5m is key, shame it wasn’t tried at that, 16m quality is the £3k+ poles domain.

It does look quite hard work to use with the std top kit, I do think the naming convention is not helping due to the previous MTX4 being flagship of the range

Hmmm always suspect when a company asks you to do a review coz they’ve had a bad one from someone else. Would have been better to compare a few poles from different companies. I’m not buying it sorry

Any reviews on the MTX5?

Ben has tested and held lots of poles his review on the MT4v2 was his personal feelings towards the pole so i take on board what he says. We can go round in circles with this pole review but its all down to the person using the pole and there personal genuine thoughts. The main source of the problem is the Matrix Marketing team what was they thinking to bring out a new pole range with the same name as the previous models and just adding v2 to the end and totally confusing the previous pole range? What a shambles...But thats my view of things. Other than that i do i enjoy your videos.

You see what they did was take the mtx 3 and they allude to the mtx4 V2 being like a mtx 3.4. This allowed them to take the mtx4 and turn it into the mtx5 which is truly like an mtx4.4.

Tom you're trying to be too nice. I've seen a 1 or 2 on the bank and i'm not impressed. Map's 501 i'd say is stiffer. It's bouncing all over the place, with a short 3/4 and the 1-piece kits it'll stiffen it up. The old MTX4 is better.

I paid 1300 for my mtx 3 with 7kits I think if this 4 was available at that time for extra 700 I still think I'd have brought the 3 but I don't have money to chuck around and only been matchfishing 3 years,I think that other channel you know who was really unfair tbh

Could of done a bit of research on matrix poles before reviewing one lads??

What youve got to ask yourself is, is it in the same league as the original tournament pro which is alot older than this. I think people buy these poles just because Jamie hughes is sponsored by them. Matrix angler making sandwiches whilst fishing at 16m. This alone rings alarm bells 😂

I really lik3 your reviews lads but I think you need to do bit more research on the products before you review them.

I would just buy a second hand Diawa in vgc instead, I literally did in fact. But the x70 with a few extras would be much better for the money. I had the mtx 1 and for the money it was brilliant but this doesn’t seem to represent good value for money, sorry to say it looks like martix have got it wrong on this one.

I think that the new v2 is not as good as the v1 mtx4 you will need to use them side by side and see why the reviews of it is hit and Miss it’s not as good as the v1 Mtx 4 as that was the flagship before the v2 poles came out

At around 7min in, it looks so bent so can't see how they say its stable. Also very bad of matrix that since the V2 have come out they no longer make any spares for the V1 so if you have a V1 and have a break yo have to use the V2 section which is awful

Carefull with the MTX4. I have the 16m package the third season. First season nothing wrong, great fishing. Then as confirmed by a Matrix Consultant, the different parts start breaking. My fishing is below 5 kilo carp. I have all the gear you would need to handle a pole of this length. I only fished it at 13 meters. Even a brand new replacement section nr 5, cracked on first use! A real solution to resolve the issue has never been provided for by Fox International. Worst buy of the century for me!!! Will never go the matrix way sorry. Be careful where you spend your 2300 Euros!
