The Tudors; JRM talks about Katherine Parr

For some reason, neither me nor Natalie can manage to upload JRM saying ridiculous things about Kathryn Howard, or Catherine Howard - whatever you want to call her. So instead I give you this: JRM being callous about Katherine Parr, and Anne Boleyn. Oh, and he gives us his learned opinion on the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. TBH I don't think he was in the best of moods when he did this little sit down session, do you?
Oh and a shout out to Chloe!! I think she will find this particularly amusing :)
Har, har.

Juanita Richards The only ones Henry at any point in his life loved Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. The first two wives are the only ones he truly loved for a point of time. After having two wives with strong personalities, and other characteristics. True queens. Jane he liked, not so called love. The only reason he calls her his great love because she gave him a son and died from child bed fever after a horrible birth, 11 days after while the labor lasted 3 days with all the complications, etc. If she didn’t die, he probably would’ve at some point got sick of her being so “plain”. People called Jane “plain Jane”. She wasn’t innocent like many movies, shows portray her as. Not very educated, knew barely how to read compared to all the skills Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn had and features. Moving onto Anne of Cleves, when he remarried. Which was part of Cromwell’s downfall. He didn’t like her, after their marriage. They did form a type of friendship. Moving onto Katherine Howard. He didn’t truly love her, he was going through a midlife crisis and wanted to feel his youth again definitely with his bad leg, and becoming obese. It was a lust relationship for him as well. Then with Catherine Parr, Catherine Parr didn’t even wanna move him in the first place. She was already thrown into marriages before with men she didn’t wanna be with and step children to take care of. None of her own after Henry died and she married the man she wanted to, but later died in childbirth with a daughter. Henry most likely had respect for Catherine Parr at the time. Just didn’t wanna be totally alone, was seeking for a care taker. Still he was almost going beheaded her as well.

Juanita Richards Katherine Howard was a child, abused sexually at a young age. Sent away from her family after her father remarried. Didn’t have great education, she showed that she did have a side of kindness to her.

*Anne Boelyn did not like Mary because she was Katherine of Aragon's daughter. *Katherine Howard and Mary did not get on at all. *Jane might well have taken care of Elizabeth and worked toward her restoration had she lived longer. *Yet all three of Henry's children apparently got on well with Anne of Cleves and Katherine Parr.

Well Henry didn't stay with Ann long less then a year if I remember. And Ann was not a little girl trying to be queen and hating on the girls because they got in the way. She was more a sister to them. And Parr was Henry's wife in name only really. He married her so as not to be alone in his last days. She didn't want to be with him. She was not a child and was though younger then Mary's mother still much more an adult then pretty much all the others

Actually Catherine Parr was the one who pushed to restoring Mary and Elizabeth both to the line of succession. Jane Seymour though really fought for Mary in respect of Catherine of Aragon. Was reported that she didn’t always treat Elizabeth the kindest like they showed in the tudors due to dislike of Anne Boleyn.

@nassauguy48
@nassauguy48 7 лет назад
Many people believe that Catherine Parr was the luckiest of Henry's wives because she outlasted him, but they must remember that Anne of Cleves survived him by ten and a half years. She was by far the luckiest, as she received two properties and vast riches as part of her divorce settlement, and lived in comfort for the rest of her days. Catherine Parr may have outlived Henry as well, but she was hardly as fortunate as Anne of Cleves. She married the philandering Thomas Seymour shortly after the death of Henry, and died a year and a half later as a result of childbirth. To add insult to injury, the little daughter died either in infancy or early childhood.
@gidzmobug2323
@gidzmobug2323 7 лет назад
atlantic1119 Anne was "adopted" by Henry--she was known as "The King's Beloved Sister" and was given many estates, including Hever Castle. The only catch: she had to remain in England.
@nassauguy48
@nassauguy48 7 лет назад
From what I have read, Anne had no desire to return to the dreariness of Cleves, her domineering brother, and the disgrace of being a now divorced and maritally disqualified woman. She apparently lived it up in England, at least until Henry died. But the revenues were greatly reduced during the reigns of Edward and Mary (Edward was frugal like his grandfather, Henry VII, and Mary was preoccupied with other factors), prompting Anne to make a personal request at court to receive more money. In her later years, she was quoted as saying how she regretted being in England, though the gravity of that statement is questionable. It could have been just a temporary sentiment. Why she also had to remain in England as part of the divorce settlement is also puzzling. She was hardly a security threat.
@gidzmobug2323
@gidzmobug2323 7 лет назад
atlantic1119 Staying in England was part of the agreement. Perhaps Henry was concerned not so much about Anne, but about her brother.
@nassauguy48
@nassauguy48 7 лет назад
Good point, but Cleves was a small and impoverished German state that technically was still part of the Holy Roman Empire despite its Protestant status. Emperor Charles V did not go to war with England over the treatment of his own aunt, Catherine of Aragon, so he certainly would not have cared a bit about this rebellious Protestant duchy. Meanwhile, Cleves was not one of the leading German Protestant states, and at any rate, the German Protestant alliance had already broken up due to serious infighting. On the other hand, Henry was more than a just tad paranoid!
@gidzmobug2323
@gidzmobug2323 7 лет назад
atlantic1119 Henry did. however, have to deal with the Pope over Catherine of Aragon. The Pope would not have cared about a Protestant state, except to make it a Catholic one.

Mary should have been loyal to her mother the queen and she was. They were both cast aside because of Ann and forced to live apart forever. Ann hated Mary. She just wanted to be able to control her she had no love for her because of who she was. She felt Mary was a threat to her and her daughter. Mary being strong willed would not bow to Ann.
@brooke6549
@brooke6549 3 года назад
@@jlyn9047 Anne tried to make amends. I think everybody can understand why Mary refused to do so since Anne replaced her mother and she got pushed aside, and treated horribly. Anne wasn’t some Satan just like children, the parents get a divorce. One of the child is very angry since the father moved on so quick. Different situations of course. Henry had many mistresses during his and Catherine’s marriage. Still was most likely going push her aside sadly since not having the male heir. The interest in Anne Boleyn though really played a huge part in speeding up the process more. Took 8 whole years though.

Also, Henry was the one who did the most harm to his daughters, not Anne. And so for JRM to say 'Henry would have left them with...' - as if he had the right attitude, was a bit wrong.

@spunkygen49 Actually, Lady Mary Seymour is recorded up until her 2nd birthday. After that she disappears from history. She was living with the Dowager Duchess of Suffolk after the death of Catherine Parr and her father. Catherine herself died after giving birth to her.

I find it hard to believe Showtime released this. JRM doesn't seem all together here. He's in a foul mood and/or isn't sober. I wonder if he was having dental problems? He seems to talking in a strange way like he's chewing on marbles.

@LaVita6352 HAHA. I loved that bit. Then again, my description of JRM would be 'F****** useless' except for the fact that he's quite exciting when he takes his clothes off, which of course he does in this show...a lot.

Also--Kate? What's that about? JRM, your mind is going. I think he calls K. Parr Kathryn Howard at some point, too...

“She was Fookin useless “ Lmfaoooo he is spot on with everything excerpt Queen Anne And Katherine Part Who was not barren considering she had a child after his death. Then again he was probably just in character during this interview.

I always thought that Catherine Parr came to Henry VIII with her step children from Lord Latimer?

She was 'believed' to be barren at the time she was married to Henry, however she was not barren, since she died of complications from childbirth after Henry's death.

After watching "The Tudors", for everything which is said about Henry VIII, I found he did what he had to do in a turbulent time. He couldn't afford to be lenient with anything. It would have cost him. And Henry didn't mind paying, he didn't like cost. Between Wars, and women who continually disappointed.....well....England is still here

he only said that Kitty was useless because she was a child herself, that was it, does anyone doubt that Mary would've had an "accident" if it was up to Queen Anne? I also disagree with his assessment that Henry was not at least a good king, he reclaimed about a 1/3 of the land in England from the Church that was laying fallow, it was literally just sitting there not being used. and he injected the treasury with much needed money, kept his throne secure and freed England from foreign influence.

@lookinglass123 He said they'd end up dead because Anne was interpreted in The Tudors as wanting Katherine of Aragon and Mary both dead. Any children that were not her own that might take the throne from Elizabeth should be dead. at least she was written that way in Season 2.

@LostYesterday I know!!! Seymour's daughter; I hadn't realised she'd survived? I can see what he's getting at. Parr couldn't really refuse Tubby. Nevertheless, JRM just don't know what he's on about, to put it slangly...
