I arrived in West Berlin on August 7, 1961. 6 days later the border was closed off and the beginning of the wall was startered. I was in Berlin when Peter Flecher was shot, left to bleed to death. Anger was what I felt. I was stationed at Tempelhof with the U.S. Army helicopter unit for 25 month. 57 people died during that time just trying to come over that wall. I know the price of freedom. I am now 86 years old. On October 6, 1962, I asked a young cute German girl to dance. That dance lasted 51 years until God called her home. Good video.
" On October 6, 1962, I asked a young cute German girl to dance. That dance lasted 51 years until God called her home" goddamn man that pulled on my heart strings
"Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect, but we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in, to prevent them from leaving us." - JFK 1963, Berlin
As a former soldier stationed in West Berlin I can tell you that there is a great difference between socialism and communism. I saw it everyday for 3 years, communism is just another word for slavery. Communism was such a success that they built a wall around West Berlin to keep its people from availing themselves of its benefits. If you weren't there, you really cannot comprehend what the communists were capable of. When a person tried to escape to the west our hands were tied. We were ordered to stand fast and do nothing. It was quite frustrating. But, I still hold a love and admiration for the people of Berlin, during the time of the cold war, the city was unbelievable. Its power, and sheer energy was a thing to see. It was a time long gone. Auf Wiedersehen.
@@Kitiwake You are absolutely write! In East Berlin you could legally entertain homosexual relationship while in West Berlin not only gays were banned but also women were excluded from some parts of social and professional aspects of life such as conducting trams, for instance.
The most insane thing is, the DDR was the best performing soviet state. You had the best chance at life in DDR. The Soviet system sucked that much that a plane like DDR was its crown jewel.
Oscar Szwec you know that alone in Berlin at least 140 people were killed on the wall. On the whole border more then 320 people were killed. But I guess that is all NATO propaganda to you...
The American tanks stands off from the Soviet tanks at Checkpoint Charlie from many hours both sides to each other down waiting for the enemy to fire when John F Kennedy had contact to Muji Khrushchev to withdraw his tanks American tanks backed away soon after.

East Berlin. Where Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott once went on a romantic holiday.
If I’m not mistaken, the real tension in this scene comes from the fact that the guy on the wall reaching down with his hand, acting all righteous, is fucking the girl, the guy dying trying to get over there tries to keep his woman. The soldier might have pulled the trigger, but the the guy on the West Berlin side killed him.
yeah but you can't compare a hundred people dying over 40 years while "breaking the law" (yes the quotes are there for a reason) and a few million dying over 10 years in an actual war.
Anyone who thinks communism is a great idea really needs to think again. I personally want no part of it. Nor did my parents, who fled their homeland ahead of the Soviet army during WWII.
It’s a propaganda movie ……😂😂now see the European countries ….Islamic immigrants and North African criminals invading Europe and turning Europe into third world countries….. Europe Communism is much better than your Western capitalism…..diversity isn’t good at all
My brother was stationed In W Berlin when he was in the USAF. He was going home on the U-Bahn. He missed his stop and ended up in the East..Thank God he wasn't in uniform. To to it off he was a crypto linguist in Russian, meaning he was a spy. No idea why I said this. 😃
oh jesus if only you knew what you were talking about. as an american, a political science student, and a german exchange student i can tell you the difference between stark communism of the 19th century and 20th century democratic socialism(that Bernie Sanders has implemented and proposed) is a world of difference as drastic as the east compared to the west. Don't be so afraid of the "S" word like any nationalist american is. policies implementing the "S" word would be the only way a middle class american would ever be able to study at university for less than $20,000 a year, let alone have healthcare.
SHOWSTOPPER443 for fucks sake. This is communism. Not socialism. Bernie is 50% socialist. This is 200% socialist + 1000% moralless anarchy. Bernie cares for the people, do these guys look like they do? Might as well compare trump to hitler.
Socialism and Communism is both exactly the same thing, they share one thing in common....CONTROL! Socialists are traitors of the free world, guys like you make me severely sick!
Why? If you see error In what I believe please present it. I am always looking for ways to improve myself. And to improve the ones around me, and at-lease try to make the world a better place.
Communism is principally an economic system. The reason communist states get bogged down allegedly in the transition phase of the dictatorship of the proletariat is arguably greed - people don't want to give up what they have, be it everyday folk or the people who are running the dictatorship of the proletariat once they become power hungry. You get stuck in a rut. Of course it's not like this isn't the case in capitalism, those in power don't want to relinquish their control, we all suffer, but less directly than perhaps one may have experienced in the soviet union
gavin dodd It’s not. The Berlin Wall was to prevent people from leaving East Germany into West Germany. It was a power move by the communists to control where their population lived. The United States’ Southern Border wall is meant to keep illegal immigrants out of the country. It’s to protect the population living inside. Those with visas or those who simply wait their turn to enter have no problem. Nobody has the right to go to the United States whenever they want and leech off of its success.
@@leisj_gt leech off its success? Hahahah. A lot of the migrants coming to the US are coming because of the problems the US directly created, through their exploitation of South America and the instability caused by America overthrowing governments they didn't like in South America and replacing them with fascists. You are all the same, same as Europeans who want to lock everyone out. British, french, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, German all caused problems, exploited the middle East and Africa, made it instable, and now complain that people want to leave the countries they made unstable. Americans like everyone else need to accept responsibility for their hand in creating these immigration crisesd
Communism was so good they had to build a wall to prevent people from getting out. All you communism apologist are just pseudo intellectuals who type nonsense in front of the monitor. I can bet both my ears that you won't want to live in East Berlin during that year.
