I got Achelos a few weeks ago and i was digging around the internet looking for deckstyles, so i was very hyped when i received the notification for this video!
Saryth is so underrated as a Midnight Hunt card. They give you good protection for your whole board, deathtouch (which is a nice bonus) and can be used for some gross land-based untap shenanigans with stuff like Ashaya. So good.
I made a turtle tribal with archelos the other day. My friend group plays low mid and high powered deck so this is my new favorite low powered deck. There’s about 27 turtle creatures in all of magic and my deck has 26 of them
Interesting...I was gonna have him pilot my amphibian-ish tribal deck (frogs, turtles...salamander)...didn't realize there that many turtles! (Love janky/memey tribes)
@@SonicEdge7 while it’s not that good of a deck I still have a ton of fun playing it, my 3 friends in the playgroup all have their own dumb fun tribals that we throw at each other when we don’t wanna have a game that’s over in 6-10 turns
Can confirm my play grouo made me change my commander because and i quote "you like being annoying" idk what they were talking about sultai mill is fun
"Aura of Dominion" is one of the strongest cards in the Deck, because besides taping/untaping Archelos you can also enchant one of your inspired creatures and for one generic Mana tap the creature for the cost and untap it. Basically for one Mana you can get the inspired effect. This is insane if you have "Arbiter of the Ideal", "Fallowsage", "King Maca", etc. on the field. With King Maca you can exile all opponents creatures and can pay the mana with the treasures he is generating.
I built mine as a sultai secret commanders dredge-lands build using squandered resources splendid reclamation and mystic sanctuary loops, muldrotha tasigur and sadisi and jorn in the 99 using snow lands and a few deserts that win the game with the land loops it’s a blast to pilot but is a slow durdle deck
Royal Assassin is also great for being able to destroy any creature that hits the board while Archelos is tapped. He's a black assassin for 1 generic mana and 2 black pips that taps himself to destroy target tapped creature. And with the amount of untapping effects you have, his effect can easily be repeated. Binding the Old Gods is a neat enchantment saga not only cuz it's nonland permanent targeted removal, but because the forest card (it can be nonbasic mind you) that you decide to fetch in the second chapter can come into play untapped so long as Archelos is untapped. It's effectively removal and ramp in one little package. Similar principle applies to Deathsprout but as an instant that only destroys creatures and only fetches basic lands. P.S. all these suggestions are all less than a dollar
Hey, I thought that a video that goes over how to make a commander deck that is *fun* to play against would be really cool, because there are some people who struggle with that (like me haha)
kinda thought there was going to be the bounce lands to gain positive mana placement while he is in play untapped. the ravnica dual mana ones and the mono coloured reprints from his set.
@@BlueGriffin20 they're pretty much all right around fifty cents. I think the advantage they give isn't even all that great. But I do like what you're saying about fertilid+retreat+Archelos. Throw in lotus cobra, and it's every basic land outta your deck immediately, seems kinda sweet, granted there's not usually a ton of basics in a 3 color deck.
This had me at table politics, though your version doesn't fit my playstyle so it wouldn't work for me. I like the concept of the deck. For me I would go a bit more group hug style or under the radar, for example when Archelos is tapped you can play Howling Mines to have it come in tapped so you will be the first person to get the extra draw.
I'm still mad about this dude being sultai, even as someone who will likely not make a deck with him. What about this card is black? Blue primarily and green occasionally gets tap down effects, similarly with untap(green and blue being relatively equal there), but not black. White is the other primary color for these effects. Why is he not bant? It makes no sense. Don't come at me with "here's five old cards and they never did it again therefore it's fine" either, that's just being dishonest about the color.
@@norushoutcast No, but that's funnier than the actual reason. I think his content is worthwhile. I think the first video I saw was the second one he ever did, and I just enjoyed it. After a while I figured I should support his content a little more tangibly, so I did. As long as I enjoy his content, I'll keep supporting his Patreon, and as long as I still have fun with this account, I'll use this account to do it.
@@WayfarersBauble keep up the good works man/woman/dude/rocks(?). LoL. Funny enough, my journey into playing Commander start with me finding out that they have Wayfarer's Bauble in stock in my country's e commerce, decide to buy it, and build a commander deck somehow. Now I'm a proud owner of two(sadly you need a reprint, my second copy is from AFR Precon) Wayfarer's Bauble copy and an Omnath Deck with all 10 fetchies. >_
Can confirm. I've had essentially the equivalent of this deck for a while. Your interactions/turns will be long. Your opponents will groan and sigh often when you tap down their board.
Ahh~ Yes, Archelos one of the most low-key Commanders at firs sight. But then after a few turns the jokes turn into worry when they have their things oppressed and locked down. I found about Moxfield deck construction tool some months ago and I loved it and changed from Deckstats to have my decks list saved online. I guess I got to thank you and this video because my Achelos deck (Named "Archelos - Inspired/Landfall/Vehicles/...?") views doubled . . . 12 whole new views XD BTW Another awesome budget card in this deck is "Centaur Omenreader" which reduce the cost of creatures by 2 if it's tapped.
As someone who has been away from magic for quite a few years and looking to come back into it I wasn't sure what deck I wanted to build for my return to the game. Started building Breena for political game play but after seeing this I might have to build both. TY for the deck idea and bringing this commander to my attention. Think its my new fave.
I have a non budget lands archelos, it is pretty powerful indeed, if I may give an advice, use bounce lands and creatures like Sakura scout to put lands in battlefield, then with retreat to coral helm it becomes a infinity mana combo, It is very close to amulet titan modern decks
@@theweirdlyfriendlymushroom7920 Not a certain list, but I really liked Amulet Titan decks from Modern and he is just perfect as a Amulet of Vigor replacement to do so in Commander.
Won't this commander just annoy people and make you a target without doing much to stop them? Their stuff comes into play tapped, but then they untap it next round and attack you for annoying them? And except for stopping haste and delaying opponent permanents (which doesn't have that much of an impact compared to what commanders usually do), he doesn't really do much? Am I missing something? He looks like he'd be fine as a 99 but lacking as a commander imo.
This an especially helpful one for me as I love this commander and have re-made the deck I have multiple times trying to get the idea of tapping and untapping politics to work and this video gave me some good ideas to mix with my own, thanks Mitch!
I really like this design! I feel like I wouldn’t play it cause it’s not my style but I love the concept, would love to see it played in action and how it works
You know idk if you actually have this or if you’ll even look but id really be interested in a Silvar and Trynn deck also The Godfather reference is pretty funny
