Senior in H.S. March 1967. This was the very first song I played in my first car a 1957 Chev. Belair 2 dr hdt. I would think of the girl who I have loved for four years. She had no clue how I felt because I was too shy and stupid to tell her how I felt. Fast forward to Aug. 2021, our 53rd Anniversary. I am a very blessed man
John Barbata, one of the original members of The Turtles, passed away on May 8th of this year. In this video, John is the boy in the back, wearing a jacket and playing drums. I sincerely hope John rests in peace.

One cannot convince people enough, who were not around during 1967, just how huge this song was. It received constant air play. Living in Washington State at that time, and remember listening to this gem while on our frequent outings to Mt.Ranier, National Park, and other beautiful sites. Great time to be a youngster.
I worked for my Greek friends right across the water slides in the late 90s/early 2000s at Misquamicut Beach. Put this song on, because some lousy pop remake is in a commercial and I was showing someone that it was a real song at some point that had a soul to it. It's awesome reading all the people who were actually alive when this song was on the radio and to read about their memories

I agree. Great comment! You're the only person I've ever seen comment about the song ending on a minor ("haunting") key. I'm not a musician but I'm really into music, song structures, lyrics, etc. Minor keys do affect the mood/sound of a song and it's interesting how this wonderful song, which is very upbeat, ends on that note.

Wow, in under 3-minutes you took me back to my Kailua Intermediate School Freshman Class Day 1967, where we spent the day at Hanauma Bay on Oahu. Beautifully vivid memories of that, sped up in that song. The salty ocean air, the sounds of the surf, gentle as it was in that marine life sanctuary, classmates enjoying their memory making moments, the lunches we either bought at the concession or that our Mom's got up early to make us, all woven in the section of this life tapestry. "Its a Beautiful Morning", by then called The Rascals, "The Letter" by the Boxtops, "Groovin'" The Young Rascals [prior to name change], and too many others to list, but that day became near indelible as I'm sure I've forgotten more about it than I recall, but what comes back to me purely by sensory infusion, smells, sounds, etc, all become fresh again when it hits me, almost like a virtual experience. Lol, I'm glad of that day, perhaps it'll be my "rosebud" moment? I may seems disingenuous tho I assure you I am sincere in my gratitude, very nice results, part of which helped my ride back to '67, in 3-minutes under, thank you so much!

In 2010 Mexicana Airlines, one of the world's oldest, bit the dust and all their pilots and flight attendants were put out of work, including my Mexican girlfriend (I was living in Cuernavaca). The loss of income made life very difficult for them. For most, that was the only skill they had, finding comparable work was nearly impossible, it was really tough and a lot of sacrifices had to be made. In 2015 Aeromexico made a deal with Delta, bought 40 airplanes and began hiring people from Mexicana. Everyone had to recertify. I helped Lupita study and she was in the second class to graduate. Everyone's families attended. To finally have work again was a huge relief and you never saw so many people crying with happiness! Even I cried a little! And for these events Aeromexico adopted a theme song. It was in English. One guess what it was!
I have loved this song since I was a kid.. Two of my favorite people got married in 1968 and this was their theme song, so every year I share this video to them...Happy 55th to Ben and Carolyn and many more...P.S. I got to see the guys perform this oh about 15 years ago in Idaho..Got to meet them and got autographs and a little Turtle pin which I still have... great tunes and great guys... I was just 7years old laying down in the back seat of my uncle and ants Blue van while we drove into the Golden Gate Bridge, the song was playing and I was just in awe looking at huge bridge was and I felt some sort of excitement that couldn’t explain. I just remember that SF felt like home to me then, despite it being my first time there. Years later in college I was out there constantly from 2010-2018 then I moved away.

For some reason this gives me chills/euphoria. I was a child of the 70s, and it evokes blurred memories from when I was a toddler. My father was a teenager who was given a choice of jail or Vietnam, and I grew up with music of the era.
The first thing I bought with greenstamps (or were they yellow?) was a radio. The best music ever rocked me to sleep and was etched in my little bones. I was 6 when this came out. Marvelous.
