@IowaEngineering: No sir. These men were far from ignorant, dumb, uneducated. These men are heroes. They were brave and far exceeded the expectations of many who thought they would not and could not succeed in the job they were given simply because of the color of their skin. Your intent was to incite an argument and see who responds by posting that particular word...I hope many will ignore it and rise above.

It was today in 1941 that the first Army Air Corps Squadron for Black cadets was formed. Stationed in Tuskegee, Alabama, the Tuskegee Airmen were born. Black Wings tells their story: bit.ly/1Bc8DaD

No they lost 27 bombers to the German Air Force. They were last in kills in the 15th. Air Force It was determined conclusively that on at least seven days, bombers under the escort of the Tuskegee Airmen’s 332d Fighter Group were shot down by enemy aircraft. Those days include June 9, 1944; June 13, 1944; July 12, 1944; July 18, 1944; July 20, 1944; August 24, 1944; and March 24, 1945. 27 bombers lost. those guys were big time bad asses Then why were they last in kills in the 15th. Army Air Corp? And why was the 332 given 4 squadrons vs 3 squadrons for the white fighter squadrons? T.A. given 16 more planes to fight with.

Facing the monstrous racism of the Nazi state, the US Army had to confront racism within its own ranks. The Tuskegee Airmen were a progressive step forward. Black Wings shares their story: bit.ly/1Bc8DaD

+Smithsonian Channel Incredible that the Smithsonian is so misinformed about the treatment of former german colonial black soldiers or african american POWs. I also suggest you read the memoir of the black-german Hans Massaquoi who lived through the 3. Reich: www.amazon.com/Destined-Witness-Growing-Black-Germany He also said in an Interview that he felt safer in the 3. Reich as a black man than he did while on a trip to the USA AFTER WW2. Same goes for Jesse Owens. It's sad that such post-war myths are still spread. It's sad that so many Americans believe Jesse Owens was treated badly during the Olympics, eventhough he himself got only praise for the treatment in comparison to the treatment he got in the USA. Feel free to comment about our treatment of jewish people, that's historically accurate, but when it comes to black people, especially soldiers, you need to do your research in the NARA archives and the Bundesarchiv as well as the memoirs of black french and black american POWs in Germany during WW2 or like Hans Massaquois book, the life of a black german living safe and sound from 1933-1945 in the 3. Reich. You also might want to look up the black people who volunteered for the Wehrmacht Freiwilligen Units that were usually made of Arab Muslims and Black Muslims. Like the "Legion Freies Arabien". Enjoy.

In all, 992 pilots were trained in Tuskegee from 1941 to 1946. 450 were deployed overseas, and 150 lost their lives in accidents or combat.[34][55] The toll included 66 pilots killed in action or accidents, 84 killed in training and non-combat missions[56] and 32 captured as prisoners of war.[57][58] The Tuskegee Airmen were credited by higher commands with the following accomplishments:
