Hello beauties! Yo date! After filming this video I found out that the descendants of the Jewish family might still own a portion of Chanel since they were able to get it back through the Christian French man who helped them during ww2! I am not sure how much of the company they still own, and it appears that it might only be part of the fragrance line, not the entire brand, but it’s something I still have to look into! There is also some dark history in regards to Carl Lagerfield, and other people who have tried to build back the Chanel brand. Just wanted to keep everyone updated and if you have more information with sources, please cite them and let me know!

The Wertheimer family owns all of Chanel, not just the fragrance line. Chanel has been managed by Gerard and Alain, Pierre Wertheimer's grandsons, since 1974. They were also the ones who decided to hire the late Karl Lagerfeld as designer/creative director. I live in Paris and I just want to point out that most people don't carry Chanel bags or walk around in Louboutin shoes :) These luxury brands sell mostly to tourists who think they're going to look Parisian and chic.

Just a note that I believe the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress was actually by Givenchy, not Chanel. On Chanel, I cannot believe they are putting the prices up for their bags when their gold hardware is only gold plated and no longer solid gold. I find the "own it" comment a tad inappropriate. But if the brand is no longer the way it was let's say 100 years ago and their owners/workers don't adhere to some questionable idiology (i.e. the founder is very possibly dead now🙃), then I honestly don't see why anyone would have to actually apologize for someone who is either already dead or doesn't own the company anymore. Some of these brands' history is unfortunate for sure, but as long as they aren't like that anymore then I don't see the big deal. Mistakes were made, they moved on, learned from them, and became better. That's what matters.

Tea facts 🍵: Black tea is oxidized, not fermented. Pu’reh tea is fermented. Oolong tea is partially oxidized and lies somewhere between black and green tea in flavor. Matcha tea leaves are stone ground into a fine powder. White tea is harvested early in the growing process and minimally oxidized - that is what I’d call baby tea.

I think it is very interesting to see different perspectives of generations. See- My grandma was a poor village girl in Mexico and at her prime she had 4 businesses all by herself raising my mom when she was 50. When I was a kid, I always saw her wearing Chanel #5 perfume and powder. She told me she dreamt of wearing Chanel's products as a young lady in her 20s, and could never afford. She never knew of the history since she was always working and of course back at in 1950s Mexico, she didnt have a TV until age 25 and rarely read newspapers. Now as her granddaughter, I remember Chanel as my grandma's go-to brand, but I am personally not a fan. I knew of Chanel''s dark past since 2 years ago, and that has turned me off naturally, but the leftover chanel products used by my grandma are in the ofrenda when Day of the Death comes around. :) te quiero mi abuelita

I’m going to start with I worked for Chanel Beauty for almost 3 years, which is where I am getting a lot of my info. First, I am not saying none of this is true, or that I condone anything that the woman did, I haven’t bought any of the product since I left two years ago actually for a lot of the reasons brought up in this video. BUT!! Chanel didn’t just decide to start making skincare! They’ve been doing it for almost 100 years. Yes, some luxury fashion houses have only done lines lately…….Chanel just isn’t one of them. 1927 was when the first skincare came out. They have three large labs where they employ hundreds of scientists to work on their skincare brand that have been around for decades. Do they over fragrance and over price most of the products, for sure. But, they aren’t just starting out all of a sudden. Okay, thank you I just needed to get that misinformation out of the way or I was going to explode lol. Edit:Spelling

Yes, Thank you! This video is too biased. I don't really care about what Coco Chanel did. She's dead so I don't care. The WWII has its share of "crusty" stories. Nevertheless, we are now in 2022 and I will not judge a brand based on what someone did more than 50 years ago. Today's owners should be respected for what they are and what they did themselves. Today's Chanel bags are beautiful but so overpriced for their quality. Same with their line of clothing. Their skincare though is great if you don't have many skin problems. Also Chanel is NOT for those who want to look rich. It's for those who want to look rich AND are rich. Have you seen the prices? I mean several K for a dress? If Cassandra or others bought a Chanel bag on credit, they're just crazy. You don't look rich when you buy Chanel and wear, let's say Zara clothes. You just look stupid. That's not any brand's fault!

If I recall correctly, one of the reasons for Churchill's interests in Chanel is that she shared a Nazi acquaintance with Wallis Simpson and King Edward the Eighth. Chanel seems like a horrible person and I wouldn't buy anything of her brand ever. But as a European I would like to just remind everyone that it's hard to find a brand that wasn't involved with the nazis or soviets during ww2. People didn't have any choice, they did what they had to do to survive and said things that the higher ups wanted to hear. History isn't so black and white. Also, corsets or stays were not the devil, they were very comfortable because they were custom made to each person (as were all clothes) and not tightlaced in everyday wear. It was a supportive garment like a bra. And if you say that the bra is also really uncomfortable then you might be wearing the wrong size and shape bra (A Bra That Fits on Reddit really helps).

As someone who has a degree in fashion and worked in luxury for years, saying that Chanel is marketed towards the poor and middle class not the rich makes my brain hurt. Yes, the whole basis of luxury fashion is exclusivity. Chanel is at a different level when compared to LV, Gucci or even Dior. Chanel is at a price point that is unattainable to the majority which is why you see more Louis Vuitton and Gucci than Chanel. LV bags typically range between $1200-6k. The cheapest Chanel Bag starts at $3,200 and their classic flap bag has a whopping price tag of $8,700. Working in luxury retail selling nearly every type of designer and having a large clientele, I can say the majority of clients purchasing Chanel are incredibly wealthy. I would say 85% are upper class. I’ve witnessed people buy Chanel croc bags for $37k and a pair classic flats for $6k. Chanel is often seen as the pinnacle of fashion. Not to mention it is incredibly exclusive. Certain runway bags will only have around 100 available for all of North America. And you often have to be on a waitlist for items. It is different from nearly every other brand. We once had a list of 300 people on a waitlist for Chanel espadrilles. On another note Chanel flap bags have by some been considered a better investment than the stock market, but no, the poor or middle class are not going to be able to spend $8,700 on one. That’s the whole point.

The Little Black Dress was just the uniform weared by the girls on the "poor side" of the orphanage where her mom left her after her father disappeared. Also the short hair they were forced to get cut. The "rich side" of Auvergne was an upper class lady' s school with beautiful outfit and looooong braids. The poor girls did all the house work for the rich ones. *All the iconography and symbols can be founded there, from the logo till the jewellery designs* She just projected her trauma as a psychological defense and made the childhood aesthetics she hated become a trend as a inner revenge* Gabrielle NEVER put a finger on that angelic creature called Audrey Hepburn. Givenchy was her designer and more than a friend, a brother, a father who stayed with her literally till the last second💖 The level or true pure love that Gabrielle never experienced...

Loved the video! One thing I wanted to add because you mentioned that it's not made for rich/aristocrats anymore. Chanel is raising their handbags prices by an insane amount each year in an attempt to become unaffordable for the average consumer. Also, they have a limit to how many designs you can buy. That's definitely a clear attempt to keep this as exclusive as possible.

Thanks for putting together this video, I've never been a fan of Chanel (I don't even like their fragrances) but I learned a lot. A couple things about the video did bug me though. 1) The focus on Chanel's affairs to "get what she wanted" sounds a lot like the tired stereotype of women sleeping their way to the top, and portraying it that way seemed really off-brand for Cass. The evidence seems pretty clear, but I think it could have been shared in a better way. 2) Saying a designer house doesn't know anything about skincare seems kind of hollow since we all know they've had to team up with cosmetic chemists etc to make all this stuff. That being said, I still appreciate the video and I've been waiting for someone to shit on this overly expensive launch so that you for that lol

I know, that I'll probably, get a tomato to my face of the hate, but I actually love some of Dior's skincare and make up. Because after many products (I'm talking to you Neutrogena and Clinique and many more, that available in our country). Anyway, I've tried some of the Dior products, I actually seen my skin, finally liked the product and feels good. But this is just a few products. After I've done my research, and seen the ingredients in them, picked the best for me and liked it so much. Like Cass likes the gold patches, so i feel the same. But with good change of my skin condition. The spf cream and prescribed Adafferin, still my besties, and I find them cheaper of course. There's way too many really good companies, that don't even bother to ship to us, in Israel. So i have what i have, and I'm fine with Dior. I buy them once a year, and it lasts longer. So by the time, the price is not so high for me, and my skin loves it, so I'd better go with what i found, rather spend every 3 month an almost the same prize as Dior, just because the product doesn't work or makes my skin worse and getting patches or just doing nothing than sitting on my face and annoy me. Just so, I was throwing away, too many products (money) to the garbage. Please no hate, I've done my homework.

You bring up a point that sticks in my mind every time I see an ad for beauty or skin products. Anymore, the first thing every brand does is tout how environmentally friendly, sustainable, responsible, cruelty free etc. that their product is. They say this while fresh faced young men and women smile and laugh. But then they say very little about how well the product works, or just use buzz words for what it is supposed to do. While responsible research and production is a must, the product still has to work. Too many brands are trying to sell solely on virtue. I could run sea salt through my blender, mix it with organic coconut oil, and put it in a glass jar I bought at a thrift store, call it a scrub and label my company as women owned, hand crafted, 100%recycled packaging, all natural, cruelty free etc. and I wouldn’t be lying.

Not trying to defend chanel here but i have an interesting fact regarding cruelty free: all skincare products that are created/produced in the European Union are cruetly free since 2003 and (here is the most important part) companies are restricted by law to claim "cruelty free" in the EU, simply bcs. its not allowed to test on animals since then. So I assume that CHANEL is cruetly free also in the US - if the product sais "Made in France" for example

Like wtf. Sometimes I don't know if I feel sorry for the people who fall for these brands or just laugh at them for being such an idiot for wasting a bunch of money on nothing. Yeah I get that you can name drop that "oh look I have a chanel bag" and flaunt your wealth, but srs was it really worth is? Are you that desperate for other people's attention and affection that you are willing to throw you money out of the window instead of saving it for the future, even tho you will never need to use nor have a saving since dear mommy and dear daddy will put money into your pocket no matter what.

Chanel has been offering skincare and doing research since 1927. They spend millions of dollars on research and scientists. They have been doing it much longer than most of the current, popular brands. Ik their prices are not the most obtainable, but is that what makes them evil or ineffective? Simply because they cost more money? Skincare is like a car. They can all get you from point a to b. There are those who enjoy driving a Nissan Sentra and those who prefer an S-Class. Sure they’re overpriced but why create smear campaigns or movements against luxury brands because they cost more? If someone makes poor financial decisions than they’re going to continue to make them regardless. People buy things they can’t afford at Walmart, that’s not Walmarts responsibility.

You’re missing the point of my post. I understood the video. I’m just using Chanel as an example because that’s what this video’s topic was. - It’s not about simping for a brand. It’s just about luxury brands in general. The honest truth is that most of these luxury brands are owned by huge conglomerates like L’Oréal. They own obtainable brands like CervaVe and more luxurious brands like Armani or YSL. These big companies share research and products that they just relabel under different brands. There is just a huge smear campaign for luxury brands that alienates those who enjoy buying them simply because of their sensory experience. If someone wants to overpay then let them don’t alienate them. If you don’t purchase luxury items then you’re more than likely not going to understand my point and just sum it up to being ignorant. For those who do purchase luxury items/ skincare they’ll understand my post about feeling alienated or guilty for buying something they enjoy.

For me the truth about using Camelia flower on their skincare is because the flower is one of Chanel symbols. It actually was Coco Chanel's favourite flower. Karl Lagerfeld (RIP) was the one who started promoting it in his designs. There are many bags and accessories with the famous Camelia design. So, it's easy for them to use the Camelia as the main ingredient in its skincare after is being use in other brands.

I do agree that these brands have branded themselves as exclusive and almost unobtainable which has made regular people want to buy it even more. But I would assume Chanel makes most of their money from actual rich people who can afford to buy bags on bags or a shit ton of makeup in one go. Not these people saving up every dollar for a Chanel bag.

And the jewelry that IS a precious metal is so grossly overpriced that you'd vomit if you knew the markups. Cassandra is right about name brands/quality. Camellia Japonica doesn't even have the same anti-inflammatory, etc, effects. The red Japanese Camellia is all about hydration, so to see a test between that, and even a hylauronic acid would be interesting. It seems that camellia sinensis has more varied benefits than camellia japonica. Although, they may have chosen the camellia japonica because it's something that hasn't been tested, therefore they could obtain the rights to it, so it can't be tested.

So you actually didn’t try this line yet proceed to judge a company based on your poor interpretation of Chanel history. Chanel is NOT made for the masses. Yes maybe the makeup skincare and perfume are at price points that are somewhat accessible to the middle class to give them a bit of the luxury aura … and don’t get me wrong I know full well it’s these lines that make $$$$$$ for the JEWISH family that has owned the brand for several decades now. Bags and clothes are not at all for the masses … despite what Instagram may tell you. If you did a proper deep dive as you say … you would know that for several seasons now Chanel has increased prices on certain goods to keep them AWAY from the ‘middle class’ and now they are even limiting the number of certain items that can be purchased. This may not be right but they are a privately held brand and basically they can do what they want. As for the skin care … I actually did purchase some items from this new line as I don’t like the other lines they have. Chanel has three … the sublimage line catered to more mature skins … the hydra line for younger skins and now the No 1 line for the clean beauty market. You should have focused on that instead of telling us about Coco Chanel and her atrocities. By the way I like this skincare line. It works for me. I choose not to focus on the history because pretty much every brand comes from questionable beginnings . I mean All American Coca Cola originally had cocaine in it. I chose to focus on the evolution of brands and what they do now. Perhaps this is all an expensive illusion. But as a consumer it is my right to try it and use it if I wish.
