Although I realized I might be quite cynical based on how he described a cynic.. But google says this is what being a cynic is "a person who believes that people are motivated purely by self-interest rather than acting for honorable or unselfish reasons." and this suits me as well. But Not 100% self interest hm I guess I don't exactly know what I mean, I'm wishy washy a lot of the time. I like Elon though, I wouldn't mind hanging out with him even if he is manipulative, I feel like I'm not that easy to manipulate because mostly I only do things if I want to, I don't like doing things just because someone else wants me to. And dude, he's on the spectrum, a lot of people struggle with empathy when they are, or they might show it in a different way than someone who's not on the spectrum, so it might seem like they don't have much of it.

I had a friend who is a cynic. Every time you make plans to hang out with him, he would see the negative parts of it. He can't choose a path in his life because he's always seeing the negative side of everything. So, he stays in his house playing video games. I tried helping him by finding him employment and he's always making some bs excuse. I stopped associating myself with him because I learned that people who are cynical will take you down with them. Hang out with positive people.
this is correct, in my view, and Musk is wrong. You can trust a cynic, if the cynical person is trustworthy. Being cynical and being good/trustworthy are two separate and independent dimensions.
I'm a cynic but i completely disagree. If you expect the worst you aren't going to get disappointed, but that doesn't mean YOU need to be the same. Because you know it's a bad thing and you try to do your best just to be *above* those who behave bad. And have the right to judge them and condemn them.

If you are excited about Sleepy, vote for him ; if you are excited about Trump , vote for him. if you don't like the policies and outcomes of one , vote for the other. But if you are not excited about either, don't vote for either of them. Voting for lesser evil is a bad idea. Let people who have benefited or hurt during the current presidency decide who should be the next president. Just vote for the other positions like Senator and congressman etc. This will also show what percentage of people really liked them in the beginning.

That's not always true. A really high character person can easily be extremely disappointed in almost all of modern society. That is not an odd or unexpected reaction. Captain America was a little disappointed in the rest of us when he was thawed out.

The vast majority of cynics are not born this way, unfortunately as one goes through life, particularly if one watches the media and all of the negative behaviour in the world, one becomes more cynical. Oh to be young and naive.
It’s about having morals and a standard. There is no professionalism these days and political correctness has gone wrong. If things don’t change they will stay the same. So you need to voice your opinions otherwise standards will decline.

I always make excuses for people even the worst people, I always have the need of playing devil's advocate because I need for people to see all the sides (I'm also very detached and don't care that deeply about most injustices, except for when it comes to animals). Maybe I don't make excuses as much as explaining reasons as to why people do what they do, it's still not okay that they do what they do, so is it still making excuses?

🤔🤔🤔I think inherently selfish people may use cynicism as a scapegoat to excuse their bad behaviour; Ultimately creating true cynics out of the the trusting individuals they take advantage of. That said, I have learnt that people who are always accusing others of cheating or stealing (for example) are probably the cheating type themselves.
Cynicism means that you believe people are motivated by self-interest. That doesn't necessarily correlate to bad behavior. Game theory experiments have even shown that ethical behavior is a better strategy to maximize your self-benefit when applied correctly.
that's just from game theory, in true depth i don't think anyone understands what cynicism is, cynicysm is a way to combat and to retaliate against the absurdity and meaninglessness of life by being as much of a fuck you sign to everything and everyone all the time, which is the direct opposite of stoicism which is accepting the world as it is despite it's absurdity and lack of meaning.
I'm not cynical im just a realist. I used to be an optimist, quite to a fault in fact. The world has mostly cured me of that but its hard to fight my nature. I end up giving people too much credit, too many chances and excusing their bad behavior. Im not as prone to this as I used to be but its still something I have to be careful of when dealing with others.

Elon is an entrepreneur... Its literally his job to evaluate people... And when you start to evaluate people, your realize EVERYONE has bad behavior in some type form...People arent perfect, but they can always grow... And so then you just have to accept this about people, and show people grace and expect them fully to screw up... Because they will, and so will you eventually.
Elon is remarkable and I’m very appreciative of him. However, for him to say “Never” trust a cynic is a questionable declaration. A lot of cynics may fit his description, but ALL of them??
But also don’t make the mistake of accidentally confusing an anxious person with a cynic. I used to think my twin sister was quite cynical -until we got older and I started to realize that she just over analyzed everything and wanted to be prepared for every possible “worst case” scenario that any person/situation could happen to throw at us. Wether it be a plan falling through, or a person screwing us over…she has at least two backup options to solve it. She doesn’t do it because she thinks the worst of the world - she does it because she thinks the world of her people and always likes to know that she has backup plans for every possible worst case scenario that someone/something might put us in. She’s just a bit of a wee paranoid ducky. 🤷♀️😂
