Throughout the Second World War, as the Allies liberated parts of France they discovered a horrific punishment method was being carried out upon women. The Ugly Carnival was the public humiliation of many women who were said to have slept with the German enemy and with German soldiers. These women had their heads forcibly shaved, and they were often covered in Nazi symbols and they were then forced to run the gauntlet. This was harrowing and many Allied soldiers found this disturbing.

Back in 1982 in the backstreets of Avignon I saw a woman aged 60 - 65 years old who had a Swastika burnt into her forehead, as in done with what must have been a branding iron. She looked as if she'd spent a lifetime of unhappiness as she possessed a look of immense misery. It wasn't a tattoo but a deeply scar that looked as if it was to the bone but had grown over with skin. It was and remains, some forty plus years later, the single most horrifying thing I have ever seen.

Not if your a woman. It is easy to understand that females of most higher forms of life have an extremely strong instincts to protect their children. They did what they needed to do to protect their sons and daughters. Family first, than countries. After the Germans were gone, the French were still understandably consumed with angst. So they turned against themselves. History keeps repeating itself. This activity continued in Ukraine for more than 75 years, and is a huge reason for the current war.

The part you intentionally decided not to mention is that the vast majority felt like it was absolutely the right way to handle the complete betrayal of their country that led directly to the deaths of many peoples family and friends. Punishing those who choose to send many others to their deaths to preserve ones self is not a wrong action. Stop intentionally distorting the reality
@gurglejug627
@gurglejug627 Месяц назад
That's an illogical assumption - that many or most (let alone all) women who had relations with ze Germans gave others away and contributed to their deaths. Either way, it's perfectly natural, genetically, for women to go to the victorious men, and finding love in a nasty war is a good thing for many, even for a mashed and downtrodden society, where good people on both sides were indoctrinated, coerced and forced into armies they would never otherwise have gone near. People don't queue up to join military campaigns unless their countries are attacked, they're indoctrinated, scared, or they live in poverty (like so many of the British who fought for Empire, I might add).

@@MartinKillips unfortunately I’m not privy to the specifics and I don’t think those sorts of Secret details will be available until 2039-2045 as they were sealed documents. I understand that there were more French citizens who were collaborating and were more than Happy with the German conquest of France ( They were doing extremely well under German occupation ). My Grandfather was in the Airborne Division during World War Two and he mentioned to my father that many of the French people were not impressed with being liberated from the German yoke ( more French people were more sympathetic to the Germans than the Allies) 🤷‍♂️ you can kinda understand why in a way,they had rebuilt after being conquered by the Germans and the British RAF decimated many of their Towns and Cities that were along the invasion route but at the same time when you think about some of the atrocities that happened in France to the French people by the Germans,you’d think they would have been a bit more happier with being liberated 🤷‍♂️. Where I live at the moment isn’t that far away from one of the Airfields where the Agents would fly from ( Tempsford ) and we know that many of those agents were caught and tortured terribly. I actually grew up in Sawston which is a stone throw away from Duxford and you can imagine the History from the area ( My Mum was one of the families who adopted a Yank to help them acclimatise to the English way of life ). In Sawston we had a few Polish pilots who settled there and even a ex German POW,we also had lots of older people who were eventually in old folks homes and had some pretty amazing experiences and stories to tell about WW2,Navy,merchant marine,Army etc

What a weird voice this guy has, the accentuation, the long reeling out of the word endings is horrid.

@The Fortress. How many more videos are you going to make about the ugly carnival? You've made a couple already that I can remember. Is this yet another one that's going to tell us nothing new? Are you running out of stories to ruin, that you have to repeat yourself?

What worries me is if any innocent women had their heads shaved - I saw a drama years ago “Secret Army” and one of the Resistance members, Monique she had pretended to like the Gestapo who came in her cafe - she would find out any information to report back to the resistance and so that the Gestapo would not suspect she and her colleagues were secretly helping British Airmen escape back to UK, well this Monique was about to have her head shaved in the final episode and some British army men came by stopped it in time. I also read a true story of a woman member of the Belgium resistance stopped by a man after the war and he drew a crowd and told everyone she was a traitor and she pleaded with the crowd to please call some British officer and he came and explained to the crowd she was working for the British and appeared to be pro- Nazi so as not to blow her cover.

Women don't care about a man's struggles. If her man loses to the enemy, she will sleep with his enemy.

Absolutely boring commentary that results in complete loss of interest in the contents of the video.
