I can’t believe people were calling your hair frizzy, it is literally perfect. I’m glad you talked about texture because I can tell when a curly girl has a blow out. Curly hair isn’t meant to be sleek and it’s not worth the damage!

Frizzy hair was cool in the 80's but now it's practically illegal, it's so dumb. My hair is wavy/curly but not sleek, it's porous and people only compliment me when it's flat ironed. I don't care but it's strange.

@tiahnarodriguez3809
@tiahnarodriguez3809 Год назад
@@rimuruslime23 The reason for that is because blow drying makes the hair move around, so it frizzes more easily compared to a roller set which keeps your hair in place while it dries. I blow dry my hair on high heat, but low air and it gets pretty smooth.

@@Asahi08Its bad for your hair, but if you go to a Hispanic salon they will have your blowout so straight it feels like half your hair is gone 😂 You’ll also sweat your butt off under the dryer with a big roller set in, but zero frizz & Ive always had frizzy/coarse hair.

I remember when keratin treatment was a craze back in the days and almost every salon always recommended you doing it. The funniest (worst) part about is that they were trying to sell the story that it can help your curls. Not saying that "help" meant your curls being ruined hence why it would be "fixed" because you would have "normal" hair after it. It was always like "You should do keratin treatment it can help your hair. / Have you ever consider doing keratin treatment? / Doing keratin treatment can FIX your hair in helping it reset." I'm glad I never gave into this, but it is still funny to me when I remember this period of time. Some hair salons still try to sell this story.

Oh my goodness, you saying that your hair is just poofy, YES! My sister, who is a hairdresser, refuses to blow out my hair straight because it's so resistant. It starts curling up *immediately*. She will flat iron it though and that will keep it sort of straight but flyway because it has no weight.

I used to get a silky blowout and that could last a week. I rarely did it but always loved when I did. Then one day no more. Wouldn't even last an hour. Roots got poofy fast and body didn't lay flat. And these were professionals doing it. Also felt it had a "burnt" look to it. Not burnt but sort of dull. Not silky and soft even though it was technically straight. It looked like the hair of the woman who did the hair Botox. It just looked dry and brittle.

The oil is used as a scalp treatment in this application. Just put it on the scalp and wrap up your hair to keep in the heat. You can leave on for 10 mins, 30mins, 3hrs or as long as you're comfy. I put it on and leave it overnight every 5/6 days when I wash my hair. I also put it on all of my hair, not just the scalp. Some oils are heavier than others and, some hair doesn't need as much. Just play with it on your scalp. Do sections, use a little and lightly rub it all over to start.

@corn in your poop Hey, thank you for your reply. It started in the third year. I was so, so happy with my straight beautiful hair it was like the answer to my prayers. Unfortunately, I started to slowly notice that my hair was shedding. Eventually, it just started falling out in clumps, and I developed a bold spot. I always did the Brazilian treatment in an expensive, well reviewed salon with the same professional, so I'm not sure what happened, really. I ended up going to a dermatologist and finally getting rid of that bold spot. Imagine getting injections straight in your scalp? That wasn't fun. A billion dollars later, it's still not at 100%. Now, I've been on a curly hair journey for a year and starting to embrace my natural hair. And by the way, my curl pattern is not where it used to be at all. Every time I went in, they would try and offer me a keratin treatment and I'd refuse. They didn't understand the concept of someone liking their hair naturally curly. Thank you so much Mel, I have just watched this again to make notes. Thank you for touching on the subject of hormones and how they affect the hair...as a 49 year old woman I can testify that my hair has changed so much with age and not for the better. I was born with beautiful smooth ringlets which disappeared at puberty and turned just wavy but still smooth. It has progressively become more frizzy and now unfortunately it is like a Brillo pad and smoothing it is impossible, I have to learn to live with it but it is hard because I look a mess. 😔 I get a good 5cm trim every 8 weeks minimum, only heat diffuse on the lowest setting, apart from once a month I try blow drying with no straighteners, my hair is 40% grey with no treatment or colour. I would be eternally grateful for a budget version of this video. Please help! Take care and stay well 💙🙏🏻🕊☺️

I am in the same boat as you. My hair used to be curly and thick but from the age of 48 has changed so much. It is pure frizz and breaks so easily. Nothing could make it smooth and glossy and in cold weather, it looks wet in five minutes and drys to a filthy frizz and looks so ugly. About 9 months ago I got so fed up with it, I had it cut into a very very short pixie. Everyone says how much it suits me as I am very petite. But I'm getting bored with it and want to grow it long again and try some of the new products on the market. I'm 52 now and so want beautiful hair again like when I was younger. It's very upsetting when there's nothing that can be done for my hair other than to have it all cut off 😕

@Lucrece @Anna Maria Yes ladies, thank you for asking the wonderful Mel to do the occasional video on post-menopausal hair! (And by that I mean to include perimenopausal hair--basically, hair over 40!). I trust her more than any other hair RU-vidr or indeed, real-life stylist. I would love to hear her tackle common problems with aging hair: hormonal curl pattern changes; terminal dryness that seems not to yield to *any* treatments; the major life decision that is grey hair (color it? blend the grey in? go silver or white?); the distinctive problems presented by grey hair if you decide to keep it natural (especially what might be termed "textural diversity": the fact that your grey strands are often quite sturdy and coarse, while your non-grey strands are fine and delicate); the psychological trauma of realizing that what you have always viewed as an impossibly frumpy and old-fashioned hairstyle, aka, the "grandma perm" or, for naturally curly ladies, "grandma short curls"--has a lot to recommend it (wash-and-go, minimal upkeep, arthritis-friendly, effective camouflage for thinning hair [curls both add volume *and* blur the edges at which scalp and hair meet, thus tricking the eye]. Help us Mel!

Your haircut videos are wonderful, but this is the one thing I have the most trouble with! So glad to see you are two-handed again. I broke my wrist when I was a teenager and sympathize!

I would be very much interested in some scientify topics regarding the damage that dry/wet detangling can cause. I am only talking about detangling. I noticed that for me it is way easier to detangle my hair before washing, for this I use a silicone based oil on my hair, then I go on with my regular routine. When I detangle my wet hair I only do it with the conditioner on, but still it takes a long time and feels painful. When I google whether to brush wet or dry curly hair the only thing that comes up is that it is very damaging for curly hair to be brushed dry. Now when I change the search and remove curly, so: whether to brush hair dry or wet? the results will explain that wet hair is more prone to damage because the protein bonds change and they are more fragile, therefor it is safer to detangle dry hair. Why this scientific explanations should not apply to curly hair? I hope you find the topic interesting! Keep up the good work, you literally saved and "made" my hair!

Spot on Mel! I did Keratin Treatment for 3 years. It took over a year to get my hair back to its original curl. Remember, when they do the keratin treatment, it’s all the way to the root. So yea, over a year. And I love love love using the k18 in conjunction with some of the olaplex products. So if I use k18 today, next time I wash, I’ll use olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Works great! And makes sense to use that bond over that peptide. :)
@samwtnw
@samwtnw Год назад
did you experience more hair loss than usual during the treatment?
@joannechris7980
@joannechris7980 Год назад
During the keratin treatment? No, what I did experience was an irritated scalp and painful acne like welts that took forever to go away. And then when I stopped the treatments, I had a lot of damage and weird hair. Took over a year for my curls to come back to like before, however my hair was still in bad shape. Even with the monthly trim. I found Mel, and everything she suggested helped. Then the olaplex. That helped but still, a lot of heavy product, irritates my scalp. Like when your face breaks out from too much of……something. But K18! The bomb. As soon as I feel like I need it, I just do it. And I still use the olaplex shampoo n conditioner on the other days. I’ve also gone through menopause, but that was 10 years ago, before any of this. I don’t know if it was a factor. When I got the bumps, I did notice increased hair loss. I think it was inflammation from irritation. Keratin treatments require lots of heat, and I don’t care what “stuff” your putting in your hair, the heat kills. But I still use my hair dryer and sometimes straight iron when I want a straight day. Hahaha. Sorry long story, but felt the need to explain.

I have naturally pin straight hair- I would love to have curly, textured hair. That silky smoothness looks good freshly washed and on camera. But it lacks volume and gets greasy and limp within a day (well, at least mine do). Your "puffy" hair looks so beautiful, and I can only dream having so much volume.

I have the same problem as you. Through an unconventional haircare routine that involves using oil cleansing face wash instead of shampoo, (and also apple cider vinegar and avoiding any kind of leave in treatment) I've managed to get the voluminous poofy poodle hair of my dreams. It's possible if you want it, you just have to experiment

They don't tell you but Olaplex treatments will work better if you wash or even clarify first so the chemicals can reach your strands better. Also, leave them up to 40mins, not 10. They will keep doing their thing as long as the hair remains damp but after about 40 mins that's it. Also, Oribe masks are arguably better than K18 and Olaplex so at least deserve a mention.

Lots and lots of love to you mell! ❤️ I am 18 and i had really curly hair but I straighten it so much throughout my life and had no idea about styling ( just oiling, shampooing) which was good but still the straighting has damaged my hair so much it seems to forget everything it was before. I am transitioning since last 5 months just doing what all the initial steps and waiting patiently. 🤞🏻

Ugh your hair looks gorgeous. I can't believe people called it puffy! I also would have to straighten it over a course of several no wash days in order for it to look straight, or use extremely high heat. But i kinda like staying with the poofy look less damage, the straighter it is in general, the less healthy for me LOL. And it's funny the standard people expect when you straighten it... It's waaaaaay straighter than your normal hair. 😑 It doesn't have to be perfect But it's also interesting because people have different standards of "poofy" like people with straight hair will tell me their hair is poofy and I'm like I'm a curly hair gal, I'm not the right person to ask LOL

As someone who has been traumatized from stubborn poofy hair all my life even when pros style it and never understood what I meant by inflating and poofy as drying lol, thank you for mentioning this. Has caused me to sweat bullets when I've straightening all my life as fighting the frizz and poof before even attempting to straighten feels like going to war. I was always baffled growing up how girls with super thick curls compared to mine could get their hair so straight silky and shiny when straightening ro where you coldnt even tell they didnt have naturally straight hair unlike me with strands that kink/poof as the night goes on after straightening and evening living om a day weather state! 😂💞

When I went for my last haircut, my regular person wasn’t there. The lady who cut my hair convinced me that doing a dry cut (not a diva curl cut) was the new “professional” way to cut hair. She washed, blow dried and then flat ironed my hair until it was completely stretched out and couldn’t get any straighter. I felt sick watching the smoke/steam… whatever it was come off of my hair. When she had finished the cut, she then used the flat iron again to put “curls” back in. Again with the smoke. Normally, if I ever flat iron my hair, my curls are back the next morning. It doesn’t even last the night. But it’s usually only one pass. I used to have loose corkscrew curls. It’s been months now and I barley have a wave. I’m absolutely beside myself. I’ve been using the Olaplex 3 once a month. A protein mask once a month and deep conditioning once a month (spread out over different weekends). This video is giving me hope but I’m thinking that the K18 might be a better option. I wash or cowash my hair everyday. Most days I let my hair dry naturally with just the AG Fast Food in it. Would I replace it with the K18? How many times a week should I use it? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Sending much love from a fellow Canadian Curly. (Or at least a wavy one now. 😭)
