I’ve heard Brian Scotto once say “it's more fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow.” I don’t think he was the first to say it but that’s where I heard it first. I think this is a perfect example.
Moved to Germany 4 years ago with my almost 40 year old Blackfoot. I never planned on getting back into messing around with RCs... again... I drag it out and play some, I have done it for years. My last time taking it out (2017) resulted in an AMPro rear for the Blackfoot and a handbuilt 6.0L LS powered Rat Rod EL Camino for me. Now I got it out of the storage box again, I have already designed parts and ordered from Shapeways I think between the AMPro rearend and my custom front I have fixed all the design flaws in the Blackfoot... haha. My point is if I hadn't learned to build my car from the ground up I wouldn't have the ability to fix simple RC car problems like you had in the video. I in principle don't like RTR cars, but OMG this thing is pretty cool for about the same price as a ReRe Tamiya car. Next Stop, TT-02 land, my kids are just the right age to build a car, then maybe a RTR for each of us. You are an inspiration for me having a lighter wallet....
If it is being bought for a kid I think brushed is totally fine, especially since it seems easy enough to throw in a brushless system later on, similar to the BOOST series from ARRMA
You are correct, Transitions rule. It's the Only reason I go to a skate park or BMX track, smooth transitions between jumps, I'm not looking for big air by any means. Just wheels of the ground at the apex and a smooth throttle. You'll find your rigs lasting longer I know that much, and it's hugely satisfying going through a full battery without flipping your car over. 😅
Thanks Phil. Just entered. Recently got back into RC’s but when the way of 3D printing them instead. Open F1 and Robak2. Loads of fun building and running them and it keeps me busy and out of trouble. Well, sometimes. 😊
I have just bought two of these Maverick RC's both on the Flux platform and absolutely love them. Quantum RX Flux 4S 1/8 4WD Rally Car, and the Maverick Quantum+ XT Flux 3s 1/10 Stadium Truck. You get a lot of RC for the money.
This is a very good review. It's a great truck for new drivers or someone who wants something to just go out and have fun with without spending a mint. After I saw all the crashes I am surprised the body didn't have more damage.
Maverick are very underrated, my Maverick Scout is always classed as the underdog at events/places I go to! No its not perfect out the box but a few simple mods and it keeps up with the "big boys"! But I've rolled it, fallen down hills ect and nothing has broken, apart from 1 shock. These Quantum Flux 2's look incredible value for money 😎
I don't understand all the hatred for brushed motors in video comments. I find brushed stuff to be perfect for new comers or yard racing. The better low-end control is really nice for new drivers. And they are so cheap to replace!
Yes, no real issues with them… but I guess they have been around for a while now. Although it seems Traxxas have managed to make a brushless that’s no faster than a brushed on there new 2s ones 😅
that's the thing people don't usually see on here is the amount of crashes it actually takes to make a video. most are cut out for time sake lol. I like a brushed car for skatepark bashing myself as there's usually less damage 👍
Been watching your videos for the better part of 3 days now. You have officially got me into the hobby! I bought a little Rlaarlo 1:18 to practice and mess around with. Your video on the Rlaarlo 1:10 Terminator is what sold me though (and I'm currently waiting for it to ship). Quick question: what cameras do you use that are mounted on the cars? Love your content and look forward to the next video. Cheers!
A lot of people use the Insta360 Go. It's a tiny camera that takes pretty good quality video. I'm willing to bet that what Tomley uses for the on board shots.
@@skree_fpv436 I just looked it up and that definitely seems like the one. Super small form factor with decent quality. Alright good to know. Thank you!
That's Peter billingsley and we all know that on the punky Brewster episode girls will be boys he raced his Tamiya hornet against punky's Tamiya frog and got his ass handed to him 😄
I'm looking for a cheap hobby grade truck to get identical cars for my kids and I. Until now I've been leaning towards Traxxas for no other reason than the availability and cheapness of replacement parts. I'll have to check these out!
I wish I was smart enough to buy my 3 kids the same car so when one they broke having spares was easier. I did however get them all Traxxas cars/trucks. Using their battery and charger system is easy for the kids and ensures they don’t burn down the shed when charging. I check the batteries with balance checker every once in a while, but balance charging on the Traxxas charger keeps them pretty much right where they need to be. A little pricy but so is all the stuff they could burn down too. I always say Traxxas is the apple of the R/C world keeping you the walled garden
hey phil, go flux yourself! 🙂 (oh man, you could go nuts with flux, "get the flux outta here with that" "just flux off will ya"? hahaha) I double dog dare you to say that to your wife! hahaha
Love the video Tom. I’d love to see your thoughts on the fairly new Redcat Danchee Ridgerunner. Looks like a decent budget crawler that’s got a lot of features the big dogs don’t Hope you have a good day !
Really enjoying running the new Quantum2 Flux version, I also have the original Quantum Flux truck. This Q2 version is much better than the original Q1 version, also ordered the HPI Jumpshot st Flux (blue one) in the Easter sale & being delivered tomorrow.
Great video (like 97.86% of all your videos) that truck is a little slow for me but like you said… great for a beginner or playing in the yard👍🏼… oh, where were you with Discipline? Here in the States? He was driving on the left side of the vehicle is why I thought states… it was the UK 🇬🇧 I’ll bet because I think it’s the states🇺🇸 lol…
Curious with these cheap R/C you review , how easy is it to get replacement parts ? I tend to shy away from unheard of brands because of this . Great review though, looks very tough
I totally agree with the fear of breaking it and no spares available. It could easily go from owning a cheap r/c to a owning a expensive paper weight pretty quickly
Only sad part about raffall is that Canada is not on the list of countries I can see... props for the give aways though! Amazing to see people supporting their followers!
I had the green one brushless the front diff on this car is a very bad weak point 1st time sent back they said they fixed tighten grub screw in Center diff was okay only drive it twice and ended up with the same issue again sent mine back again today I’m hoping they can fix it
OMG!!! Sorry Phill, never saw it before, but you totally look like the kid from Christmas Story. Don't worry dude, there are much worse people to look like...... Like Kev Talbot! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 So happy you didn't shoot your eye out dude. That little beast takes some pretty serious punishment! 👌 Pretty cool! 👍
I would never run 3s on a brushed 540/550 sealed can. 22mph is just fine. I hope Quantum 2.0 is better than 0.9 version. That thing was falling apart after 2nd pack.
Ive just bought an old maverick Strada xb and whacked in a China's finest surpass brushless Controller and motor. Holy shit it goes like shit off a shovel.
So I have never owned an HPI but I have been tempted several times, more on the Subarus WR8 Flux, but when I always ask around, especially at the hobby shops they always warn me about HPI, because I guess they have been bought or sold several times, and I wasn’t in the hobby at the time, so I don’t know how true this is, but people kinda got caught holding the bag so to speak regarding having vehicles where there ended up being no support for them. What are your thoughts on that Mr Tomley?
I had hpi e-savage long ago. Was really tough. Until neighbor hit fire hydrant at full speed, but was way better than Traxxas e-max. Id imagine this is tough as well
When you going to do more vids on sand bashers down the beach? I like the sand paddle tyres. Could you do a wltoys 144010 with paddle tyres ? Pleeeeease 😂
@@bramvanmeerveld5734 very strange if were fitted correctly wouldn’t have a problem.. make sure diff casing is screwed down properly.. there easy take apart too service to.. just double check everything and should be good to go.
Its only £240 for the brushed typhon and and £318 for the brushless 3s i think id go for the typhon its not a budget rc this is still a great option if you dont like the style of the typhon
The screwed the grub screw in and it it stoped it I had two goes with it again and it started slipping again and the grub screws was still in the cups had to send it back again absolute night mare for the front diff slipping just hope they can fix it at the shop 2 nd time sent back and I not done any nose dives or jumps with it Tom
Brushless one I have had and they said it was the grub screw they sent it back to me after they tighten the screw took it out twice not even jumped it just raced it around the front differential was slipping again with the grub screws still tight but this time was slipping I got the green brushless one but I wondering if the front differential was sleeping the whole time and the grub screw was not really the cause and it just fixed the slip temparely cos it sound like the front differential was not catching the Center diff I’m just hoping the shop can fix it mate
