1995 I was forced to buy a 1985 K100 RT. The former owner pleased me to buy his bike, because he couldn't drive it anymore. Before that I drove only Honda Bikes nearly changing them every year.So I sold my 3 years old Honda with 10k km to buy a 10 year old K100RT with 80k on the speedo for the same price. From that day, I had "my Bike"until today. After some years, I didn't drive it to much because of family, business and other reasons. But I will never sell this bike and I'm proud that now my childrens (both whent they passed 15Th Birthday) that they did her first kilometers, before any other bikes, with my K100RT. The Bike is very eay to handle with great potential. Was far ahead of its time.Hope that this bike will stay forever in my family.

So now, 7 month later. Times changed. I repared the Ignition coils. Now the bikes is driving smoth and fuel consumption is much more better. For professional reason I have to drive now once or twice 200km on German Autobahn. Last 6 weeks I did over 1200km with it without any problems. The BMW K100 RT does it just as a younger bike. But above 160km/h modern cars are just quicker. So I think to give to my childs an buying a 2004 K 1200 GT to drive quicker... But I never will give away my K100 RT!

Cool video. I had the pleassure of driving my 1990 K1 from 1992 to 2015 including commuting from Norway to Germany for work. The reason I kept it so long was it took about so long time before I felt there was a better bike worth the upgrade. Now driving the near perfect tourer the 2021 R1250RT

Love this bike. I own a K100 LT from 1989 and it’s nice to see it’s still thought of well

I have a 1987 K75c , smaller version very smooth ride and ultra reliable, comfortable as you like 👍 I've had mine 15 years and enjoy it everytime I go out on it . Thanks for highlighting this bike . Great video. 👍

The K75's proportions look so much better than the bigger K100's do.

BMW should not have dropped this range. It had much more potential than the boxer.

I've got two of them; an early '83 naked (110,508 miles as of today) and an '87 RT (only 67,000-odd miles). The naked has rotated through being an RS complete with the correct drive box, then it moved on to being an RT for a while and now it's an LT complete with electric windscreen from the K1100LT. I've had the '83 for fifteen years and put most of that mileage on it. The '87 I've only had for about four years and it's hardly been ridden, but in fairness it was given to me as the proverbial boxes of bits and took a while to do a ground-up rebuild (including new paint).

I bought mine at the beginning 1984 and it is chassis 0000249 and was the first sold in the UK. It is a solid lump but is does smoke off the side stand for two miles. I bought fairing part to make an RT out of it. But put it back to standard again, as it is too lumpy for me with the fairing and I do very few miles now. It will outlast me now and is now becoming classic so the tax requirement goes away, and it can go into the London ULEZ next year.😊

The K bikes are million mile bikes. Parts are getting hard. Fuel tank components not designed for todays fuels. But this upgrades are easy. Shaft splines prone to wear. So lube often with high moly grease.
