See, I was right, I’m the correct audience for this video 😂. The amount of work you’ve put into this really shows, you’ve done a great job! Also I had no idea Kira had a unique skin tone, I think they’re kidding themselves about that because she looks exactly like a 10 to me!
Evelyn you really out did your self, I knew this video was be so helpful and full of all the information you’ve been gathering for a while. Thank you for making this video, it will help a lot of new ag doll collectors but even for someone who’s been collecting for years it’s amazing to see all the facts. I’ve been one of the newest truly me dolls and she has dark skin so that’s very exciting !
Thank you for the sweet comment! I’m glad you were able to find it interesting even though you’re a seasoned collector. I’ve been eying that leaked truly me with the dark curly hair.. I can’t wait for them to come out!
This video was AMAZING! You did such a great job and answered so many questions! (Questions I didn't know I had until seeing it!) Me while watching this video as I'm getting ready for bed, but also the itch to go downstairs and line up my dolls by skintone to see! Haha I can't wait for the next parts of this series but this was such a great start. I can't sing your praises enough on this, wow! Thank you for taking the time to share this and make this so thorough and detailed and simple to understand! You answered things from multiple aspects and I just am so proud of you for getting this out! Excellent video as always! ❤
Thank you so much Kaley 🥹🥹 I’m glad you enjoyed and I can’t wait to make the rest of the videos in this series. I’m still hoping to get a #4 for making the face mold one, but as you know that’s increasingly more difficult these days!
Wow! This is a great video. I had no idea Kira had a "unique" skin tone. It seemed like 10/standard light to me when i had her. 🤷♀️ I wonder if we'll see further skin tone diversity in the future. I would love to see birth marks and vitiligo offered by AG, at the very least through the create your own line.
Thank you Chrissy! I also didn’t know about Kira’s tone until I was doing research for this video. The AG website still has her on there even though she is sold out. I’m extra glad I got her now. I really hope to see more skin tones in the future. I think they could go even darker than 35, add some in between shades, especially between 25 and 30, and add a lighter shade. Tone 05 is still so much darker than my own skin.
Birth marks and vitiligo would be so cool! I’m also glad I have Kira now! She is probably the one doll I have never really felt connected to, but knowing she is extra unique makes me grateful she is part of my collection!
Thank you!! ❤️ That one is already in the works! I just wish I had a #4 so I could do a video on every mold. In the meantime, Kristie @agtakesover has a great face mold video since she has all of them. I would highly recommend it!
Thank you so much for this. You have answered my questions about how the older skin tones fit into the new 6 official skin tones. When people first started taking about skin tone 20 or 25, I was so confused. I figured out 5 and the darkest skin tone (tn80), but all those in the middle were confusing.
I want to say thanks for taking the time to compile all this information and making it available for fellow collectors. I'm "relatively" new to collecting AG and was never really able to go to a store to see them in person so I had a really hard time understanding the differences in skintone. I currently only have two dolls with different skintones. Eventually I want to make a mini-me but I had issues choosing between 20 and 25. I got Evette last year and I believe she falls under skintone 20 (which is cooler). I'm still debating if I'm closer to 20 or 25 but your guide is very helpful for me to visualize the differences.
I’m definitely saving it for the future! Can’t wait to line up all my dolls to compare! Especially to see Kira’s unique skin tone and to see if my 2007 Nicki is also a bit taller than her sisters! 😂
This was AMAZING. Thank you so much for doing so much analysis and research on this! What an amazing gift to our community. I just sat here agog the entire video. Thank you for showing, in particular, all the variations in the deeper skin tones. I'm with you - Kira's skin tone doesn't seem different enough to warrant a new number, but wow, all the differences in the darker tones are so cool to see! This also helped me think through some of the dolls I'm still interested in getting and think more critically about if I do want them (I mean, this sealed the deal on wanting #26 in the future; I was 97% sure, but now it's a definite!). I'd love to see your analysis on eye colors at some point, and I'd love to see a full statistical review on the feature combinations that are most common across the history of American Girl. Although I also understand if you want to wait on all of this for the new TM release that is pending... do you think you'll be updating your printable when that happens? If they do a feature combination that hasn't been seen yet? (My kingdom for a dark-skinned Kaya or dark-skinned Nanea in the TM line!)
Thank you Elise!! It was my pleasure! I can’t recommend #26 enough. She is my favorite Truly Me. Yes, I am waiting on the new TM release especially for my PDF guide. The guide will assist with identifying American Girl dolls, and part of that is sorting them by their features. I want to include every doll that AG has made, so I’ll have to hold off until those dolls come out so I don’t have to redo work. I will definitely update the printable if new dolls are released that have different combos. I’m hopeful that they will 🤞🏻
@@EvelynRoseAG I also meant to say - thanks for your information about the different body "types" in the dolls - I've always thought I was going a bit mad, because it seemed like my Marisol was so much taller. Good to know that I'm not going mad, she's just a genuinely taller doll!
Thanks so much for this helpful guide! The variations are so interesting. I've definitely noticed the yellowish skintone on my older dolls. My Nicki also has that interesting body.
Fascinating about Nicki being slightly taller! 😮 I have her and will definitely be testing this out when I change the girlies next weekend for Valentine’s Day! What an amazing video, Evelyn! I’ve been highly anticipating this series, and it did not disappoint! You can tell how much time and effort you put into everything, and your passion for AG truly shows! 🎉 I am so intrigued to lay all my dolls out by skin tone now to see how they compare! I have way too many light-skinned dolls and really want to intentionally focus on diversity in my collection this year with skin tones and molds as opposed to just getting the ones I like! No more classic or Josefina molds for me for a while! 😂 I especially liked that you included the skin tone numbers for the CYO generator because I feel like I never really know how they’re going to come out looking because imo they look so different than the generator image! Can’t wait for more videos like this! You’re awesome! ❤❤❤
Thank you, Jessica! That’s so nice of you to say 🥰 I think choosing to be more intentional about your future purchases is a good thing. Buying dolls of color from American Girl directly shows that we want them to make more.
@@EvelynRoseAG Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! I just finished checking off the combinations I have with your PDF, and there is definitely room for improvement! It feels like Pokemon because I "gotta catch 'em all!" Lol! Definitely going to try to get as many unique combinations as possible from now on. 🥰
This video was so informative and I really appreciate all the time and effort that you put into creating this comparison guide to help the rest of us. Thank you and also a big thanks for the printable chart. I'll surely use it.
Thank you so much for the kind words! It brings me joy to be able to put something like this together. Of course AG released 3 new skin tones shortly after I made this though 😅
Evelyn, this is wonderful! Thank you so much for putting this together, along with the companion printable. Outstanding! I never knew that Nicki was a taller doll too. I knew about Nellie, but not Nicki. How interesting. Nicki was my daughter's first 18" doll, but she no longer has her. I can go back and look at pictures, though. I printed the chart and plotted out my girls on it. So cool! Thanks again for doing all of this!
Thank you so much 🥰 I actually didn’t realize until I put Nicki next to the other dolls. I’m pretty sure my Jess doll is the same way, too. Very interesting!
@@EvelynRoseAG And you mentioned Marisol too. I owned Marisol for over a year, but I have zero pictures of her. I knew I wasn't happy with her, but no pictures is just crazy.
@@EvelynRoseAG Definitely not. She was an impulse buy and her hair was bad and I tried to fix it to no avail. I ended up donating her to Girl AGain Boutique in New York, as I knew they would fix her up the best they could and give her a new home. :)
This is such a cool video concept! I can’t wait to see what you’re going to create next ❤ I tried to access the printable and it said “password protected” with a field to enter a password. I assume that’s not intentional wanted to let you know. Thanks so much for your awesome resources!
I love this so much! May I ask who the girl on the right is at 6:30 in the video? She looks like a skin tone 10 Nanea mold with blue eyes and caramel hair.. she's gorgeous, and I don't think I've seen a doll like this!
I saw later on in the video that she is a custom 119; that's such an awesome idea! Did you just rewig her and remove the bottom lashes? She looks stunning
Yes - she is a custom 119! I removed her lower lashes and gave her a caramel wig. She’s featured in my lower lash removal tutorial and my wig swap tutorial if you want to check those out. Both 119 and 116 are gorgeous once re-wigged!
… I need there to be a #15 skin tone- in between the darkest ‘light’ and the lightest ‘medium’. (I think it may possibly actually exist, *_ONLY_* in Evette. I am looking for it in a Marie Grace face mold)
That would be awesome! Evette is the same skin tone as Kavi - tone 20. If you like Evette’s tone, you can customize Kavi. I wish there were a lighter light, a darker dark, and more shades in between.
@@EvelynRoseAG I know Evette is officially a 20; I am not sure if it’s something about the hair and eye coloring (and/ or the freckles?); but Evette seems to me like she might possibly be just a half a shade lighter than the other 20’s. I probably _will_ end up customizing a Kavi- i love the face mold. But I still wish there were something in between that and the next lighter tone. The character, Sara Crewe from ‘A Little Princess’, had an English father and a French mother; and since the story gives some indication that she is rather more tan than fair, I like to imagine that her mother had been from the Southern regions of France, and that Sara had inherited a bit of a Mediterranean complexion from her!
Edit: I think Makena is 30! This was very informative!! Do you have a guide anywhere where every single doll’s skintone number is written down/listed? Cause I don’t quite know the skin type number of my Jess, Josefina, Makena, Nanea, Tiana, WB Kirsten, 4, and 121 dolls
Thank you! I am working on a guide that will have the tones indicated for each doll. For now.. Makena is tone 35, Jess would be the old light (tone 10), Josefina is the old medium (tone 20), Nanea is tone 20, Tiana is her own unique tone (new), Kirsten, 4, and 121 are tone 10.
I have a few questions. How do you store your dolls? Are they always out and standing? Or do you put them in something? If I send an unknown doll into the doll hospital can they figure out who it is and tell me which doll it is?
I store my dolls upright, on top of a doll house, and some of them are on a bookshelf sitting down. The problem with having them sitting down on the bookshelf is that it can make their limbs very loose. On the other hand, if you have them standing up, there’s more of a chance of them falling down and getting scuffs if you don’t have them on a doll stand. As far as the hospital goes, I’m not sure. The intake form only has you fill out their basic appearance details and does not have you specify which doll it is. I would think that means they would be able to identify which all you are sending in and make the repairs accordingly. You can call the doll hospital and confirm. If you have Instagram, feel free to message me a picture of the doll and I can also help. ❤️
