I remember, it was 1997 and I was a huge Jordan fan, and then my brother comes and tells me about this new player named Allen Iverson, I was like who? Obviously there was no internet so the only way to check him out was on T.V. Luckily they used to play a basketball tv show every Saturday in my country (Mexico) and there he was, they were talking about Allen Iverson and the first footage they showed was that crossover against Michael Jordan. I was blown away by the way he handle the ball. From that moment on I tried to watch every game they play on TV. Until this day I haven't seen another player as explosive as Iverson. Thank you so much, Iverson. You change the game and you change me. A.I. Forever.
AI isn't the King of crossover, he's the EMPEROR. Kids nowadays can argue about if guards liked Irving, Curry or CP3 has a better ball handling, but none of these can do it at that speed. No one can guard him for a whole game, too pressure on those ankles and this video shows why his dribble is still UNMATCHED.
+samuel morrison DRose is the closest to Iverson. Yes Curry and Paul are more creative with the ball but Iverson and DRose can crossed pass anyone with the simple left to right cross because of their speed and explosiveness.
This man doesn't get enough credit for what he brought to basketball. He might not be the greatest player ever, but his style inspired tons of young ball players to have a sense of personality out on the court. The way he expressed himself through his body movements, kind of made you want to imitate that out on the court.
Yeah I agree. i REALLY don't understand people are trying to comparing allen iverson with curry and kyrie. I can't imagine today media that steph and kyrie are better than him. It just sad that people believe only championship make player better than others.
they are all different kind of players. probably Iverson and kyrie are more similar style players. although curry doesn't have the individual skill one on one like them, but he knows how to run the system, ball movement. if you want to say one on one skill, i will say probably iverson and kyre is the same. neither of them can guard and stop each other. iverson prove himself with one mvp, but kyre proved himself in final. the last 3 games of his final against warrior kyrie basically didn't choke at all. Lebron let him one on one and he didn't disappoint anyone. probably you cant say who is better than who but definitely the other two players accomplish more than Iverson.
jimmy Yang I'm not going to waste my time educating somebody who would even say something like that it's not worth it. It's obvious that you just started watching basketball if you were a real fan of the sport you would know those guys don't even come close
The name of that cross over is the ghost. He learned it at Georgetown. It was banned after three seasons and he had to revert to the traditional cross. I remember the first time the refs called travel. After the rookie season murdering of mj23 I wasn't shocked. Damn those were some amazing days. He was the original and 1 mix tape . And don't forget when he dunked on camby.
what makes Iverson different from other players today is that when he crossed u he didn't gloat he didn't try to say that he owned u no everytime he did a move was to try to score not trying to look flashy but just to finish the play and it's funny to me how underrated he is in the handle category bc y is he being compared to curry and kyrie we harldy ever try to compare kobe to Jordan we know that the game changed since Iverson left but no one can compare to the original crossover king
Thias176 Normally I would call someone who though that the players nowadays have better handles than Allen stupid, but I can see you really do know your stuff about basketball. Glad to see someone is backing up his opinion with facts, not just assuming he's right without proving it
Thias176 Those guys might have flashier handles, but AI got to the rim more effectively than any of them. No one to date has used changes of speed better than AI. His hesitation was so deadly, that's what made his crossover work. Now you have guys using 3-5 dribble moves for seemingly no reason.
People like curry, irving, paul and so on are very skilled ball handlers but mainly flashy and legitimately are no where near iversons level I mean Iverson was shaking ankles with basic moves imagine if he did flashy dribbles I mean cmon now, Iverson simply was the best ball handler.
Haven't watched the whole thing but 59 I already know is the best crossover I've ever seen..burned 2 defenders..ONE guy guarding him jumped an broke and TWO the 2nd guy guarding somebody else with 8feet of cushion from A.I. an jumped an broke the same exact way as the 1st defender hahahah OOOOOMMMMGGGGG wat a fucking sicko
if anybody mention they can guard Allen Iverson watch this video and your going to be so humiliated and how the hell the man from 3:46 fall to the outer bound I don't even need a explain Allen Iverson the goat of all handlers Realest goat
The key to his crossover is he actually makes a move directly to score, either a pullup or to the rack. Lotta guys just dribble side to side and waste time for no reason.
When you talk about the greatest people neglect to mention A.I. but there is no disputing, doubting or denying that Allen Iverson was legitimately feared on the basketball court. Congrats to him and I'm glad to have watched his Hall of Fame career from the first basket to the last.
Wow. When Jordan would take people off the dribble he would actually palm the ball (double dribble btw) to get an edge during a crossover. Iverson had no need to do that, he was just that great.
Great Job! Must have been hard work to search and cut all of these x-overs, a lot of them i didn't know, thanks for that! There is nobody in the nba today who has moves like this...
ai is the greatest player of all time not just his crossovers or moves but the big heart he has there are times he is injured but still he plays and give his 101% and you wont even notice that he’s body is broken because the way he plays the game,,i onow there will never be a player like ai in the future but i hope we could see one that almost play just like ai , so it would remind us how great player is ai
@3:28"I'm done, lets go home, I forfeit". That's what I would've said if I was Stoudamire. That was just nasstttyyyy! @3:45, that stepback was so fast & powerful, it created a sonic boom that rocketed the defender out of his way.
He's got more moves than anybody in the history of NBA. Sad to say what I witnessed in the 90s was the greatest era of NBA talent. Nobody compares today except Lebron and Steph Curry. No more super talent*
He was ahead of his time, some players were already doing the crossover in the league before A.I. did but no one could ever really guard him. He had power and speed in those legs, he had the leap and quick handles, and most of all he was a gifted scorer. They shouldn’t have named him The Answer ‘coz he was The Problem for anyone in the league. He created the Mamba for crying out loud.
allen iverson is probably one of the best point guard or even player in history. too bad he got attitude issues, if not, coaches will fight for him!. it's sad that his retirement is not as grand as kobe
Easier said than done, by as we get older, we all get wiser, and as die hard fans you get wiser. My point...if pros watched vids like this or just film I don't understand why they couldn't figure out Allen Iverson is actually stoppable if you force him to his left! Not saying that he can't go left put he tends to turn into a distributor when going left. Easy to collapse the double team on him as well. Just my point of view. I'm forever an Iverson fan!!!!!!!!!!
MrCedLo what the most crazy part is that even you push him to the left,he can still.easily switch to the right with his unstoppable speed and extreme fast dribble
His crossover improved dramatically after his rookie season. From 97-98 (his second season) and on, you can see him pulling off a great variety of crosses. Even in his rookie year, any cross outside of his trademark left to right, guaranteed him space and/or a bucket. Yes, that double cross on MJ was nice, but that pullback on Coach Scotty Brooks and that boom boom left to right on Kittles was just as disgusting as the MJ cross. In fact, I know I'm one of the few that was glad the nba had him modify his crossover because it only helped him get more creative because that high left to right cross became predictable.
