Thanks for joining me for another ambient airport walk; this time, we're walking through the incredible Chicago O'Hare, one of the busiest airports in the world!
Unlike other tours I do, this one covers every terminal as I explore it; no music, no narration, no interruptions!
Whether you want to see the detailed layout of this airport, you're curious about what's around the corner, or you want to relax to the sights and sounds of travel, I hope you enjoy this video and those to come!
Please comment and tell me what you liked or didn't like about this video. Do you like more annotations as we walk? Maybe better footage of the art and exhibits? Is metadata interesting to you, like the time of the walk, direction, distance walked, etc.?
Check the chapters if you're interested in something specific!
Finally, let me know where you'd like to see next! Stay tuned for new flight and airport videos every two weeks!
This video was recorded in March 2022, before the federal mask mandate was lifted for air travel.

O'Hare International Airport is a world class airport in design, but I know everyone's favorite part is Terminal 3 where you find Concourses H and K with flags on the hallway. That part of ORD Airport can even be seen in Home Alone as the McAllisters were running late.

@@MilesByFoot, I have to ask. When will you do another airport tour in the US? I was wondering if you can try reviewing other airports in the Eastern US such as ATL, IAD and even 3 airports serving the New York Metropolitan Area.
@CrystalClearWith8BE
@CrystalClearWith8BE Год назад
Speaking of Home Alone, in the early '90s, Terminal 5 used to be called Terminal 4 (WRONG INFO). I've seen one scene of Home Alone when the McAllisters were racing to the gate to a flight to Paris-Orly (ORY) where a sign shows directions to Terminal 4. Years after the early '90s, Paris flights were now moved to Paris-Charles de Gualle (CDG) because it's a mega world class airport like ORD that handles many destinations while ORY on the other hand is a large mid class airport that handles some destinations around the world.

I really miss the good old days before 9/11 when you could freely walk around airport terminals like this WITHOUT a boarding pass. I love airports, especially my home airport O’Hare. It may sound weird, but if I could, I would totally head over to O’Hare, go through security, and have a drink at one of the terminal bars or a meal once in a while…..even if I wasn’t flying anywhere.

I feel the same way. I loved going to the airport as a kid to meet my mom after a long trip, especially if it was an airport I hadn't seen before!

@@MilesByFoot when I was a kid in the late 80’s and early 90’s I also used to love being able to walk right up to the gate to drop off and pick up relatives. I remember my mom was going someplace in January 2002. It was the first time I had been to the airport since 9/11. I had no idea at that point that you were no longer able to pass through security without a boarding pass. I remember being soooo angry that I would have to say goodbye to my mom right there at the security checkpoint and not be able to walk with her to the gate. 20+ years later I’m still angry that you need a boarding pass now 😂

This video was helpful. I’ve only had layovers at ORD, but in two weeks I’ll be checking in and flying out of there for the first time. I’m a little nervous. Many parts I haven’t seen, but now I have thanks to you!. I do have TSA PreCheck so that will help some of my nerves. My flight will most likely go out of terminal 1 or 2/B or F. It’s a United Express flight.

I know there are a lot of people who hate this airport. I personally have a very special relationship with this airport and will be very very sad when all the traditional things are gone. I will say this though….if they change or get rid of the B/C tunnel….I’m gonna be PISSED! Adding on through the video, not many people know about that little tunnel that leads from E to F running behind McD!

Thank you so much for this video! I am picking up my friend from from what the itinerary says is B12. Will I will be able to access that without going through security? I'm not flying out, just picking up. He does not speak English and has never been to a big city. I am so confused, and to be honest, a little overwhelmed. I have only been to O'Hare one time.
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 11 месяцев назад
Before 9/11, it was possible to get to the airside terminal and gates, even if you didn't have a ticket. However, you won't be able to get past security without a ticket now. If your friend is landing in B12 (which is likely to change), he can leave security in Terminal 1. You can wait for him outside security in that terminal.

How long did it take to get thru T5 security?
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot Год назад
I have experience at both extremes; when I was here in March 2022, security was pretty short, less than 15 minutes, I'd say. In the height of spring break a few years earlier, it was much worse, probably 45-60 minutes. The line spilled out into the landside terminal, and I barely made my flight!
@Tastan9

1:17:33 Why was Terminal 1 converted into two parallel halls? After all, when it was Y-shaped, the airport looked aesthetically pleasing
@jpthompson09
@jpthompson09 4 месяца назад
The old layout, from an operations standpoint, is not as efficient as the current one. United built these terminals as kind of a showpiece of their system - Chicago is where their HQ is. Personally they are my favorite part of ORD.
@Tastan9
@Tastan9 4 месяца назад
@@jpthompson09Wow, the airline itself built terminals for itself. Now it is clear

@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 10 месяцев назад
Who knows? My guess is a maintenance area; in that terminal, all gates have jetways, so passengers shouldn't need to go downstairs to board. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious, though.

O’Hare needs renovations badly because the airport feels stuck in time.

I love the nostalgia of O'Hare; as airports become more uniform in design, I try to take the chance to treasure how some of the older ones look and feel :)

Where can you see gate H1A?
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 4 месяца назад
The footage I got wasn't good enough to include, but if you go to 52:37, H1A is about 100 steps to the right of the camera. It's one of several gates at O'Hare that's located directly on the main terminal, not down one of the concourses.
