We talked with REDARC about this, and wasn't able to get a solid answer. Three is the most I've seen, but in theory you can run as many as you'd like. Eventually you'll get voltage drop due to the wire length. You do have to program each controller separately.
No filtration system, just a couple jugs, and the MITS water tank! We stop by the local water places while we're down there and get filtered water if we need to fill up
