Hi @City Planner Plays. At first i wanna thank you for providing this very useful video. I got a question for the second (or maybe third ?) part. Could you please also mention some aspects of safety of modding? I wanted to start modding at the epic games version with Mods from the Steam Workshop, but there are many people who say that you need to be careful because of update, save game coruption and similar stuff. Could you also make a kind of a safety guide for these mods? Thanks for reading ; )
Man this almost bring tears in my eyes to see how much the mods have evolved. I'm the original author of many of these mods. Move it, Find It, most of what's now in Network Anarchy (those fire Chirps were a blast to make, pun intended), AVO, Cinematic Camera Ex and more. Thanks for making this video, took me down the nostalgia lane.
Holy cow! Thank you so much for all that you did for the game! Though many of the mods have evolved, your base is still there! And I know that as a content creator, Cinematic Camera is STILL my #1 mod for recording. Thank you so much for all that you've done for the community!
@@CityPlannerPlays I'm really surprised that nobody took over that mod. More surprising is that it still works without any updates, last update was 5 years ago.
Just playing this game again for the first time since 2016, and i'm so happy to see anarchy is still a thing. I remember watching flabaliki's playthroughs back then, who had some pretty solid playthroughs btw, and he absolutely praised the hell out of the anarchy mod lol. I was very inexperienced with modding games as a whole at the time and didn't wanna bother but anarchy is definitely going in my small qol list for this playthrough.
Highly recommend Skyve too! Really helpful for a player like me who has various cities with various styles and assets and instead of downloading and redownloading things, separate profiles allow for easy switching between my map editor loadout, my vanilla load-outs etc, but great video!
Yeah, this for sure. Compatibility Report and the Load Order Mod got merged together and became Skyve, and the tool is all kinds of useful for checking mods for problems. @City Planner Plays I hope you'll see this and give it a shot (and include it as a recommended mod!).
Skyvve is my go to. I can change setups without going through so many hoops or having 9 different Steam accounts. The new additions made it great for sharing setups. Lastly, the integration with Compatibility Report has been great. I can troubleshoot, remove, and sub mods at will without breaking a sweat. In my opinion, this mod is about as essential as having Harmony.
You just blew my mind with the Mirror function in Move It!! When I don’t feel like plopping every building I’ll copy blocks and spin them around. This will make that so much easier!!
When you place a water source, any size can be used to suck out the water, not just 0. Place a full sized water source and adjust the height to below where the current water is and it will still suck out the excess water. Drop the height to the minimum level and the effect is somewhat dramatic. I'll do land reclamation just by drawing the outline and putting a water source dropped to the minimum height in the middle and the water inside the outline is gone really quickly without the tsunami that you usually get when displacing a lot of water. It is also useful like this to tame rivers that tend to flood, particularly at the outflow of a dam. You can have a massive 1600MW dam empty into a small pond without any flooding using the water source correctly.
You're not wrong about this being the ultimate mods guide - this was phenomenally useful. I was a bit sad when I saw this because I was looking forward to settling into my Sunday morning city build watch, saw it was about mods, and went "oh poop" - but you taught me about fifty things I didn't know as someone who has had all of these mods installed for ages.
I was really intrigued what mods you use. So I searched for it on RU-vid. Must be my lucky day that after a few years you decided to post a Beginners Guide where you would showcase all the mods. 1 hour before I decided to search for it. Thank you kind sir
I've used Move It! for years and use only a few things. Your tutorial on this mod opened a lot more possibilites that will make my play so MUCH easier. Thanks
Wonderful timing! I'm just now starting to get back into gameplay after my husband passed away a little over a year ago. I really need to get reacquainted with the game so that when Cities Skylines 2 gets here I at least feel comfortable playing the game again. Thank you so much for all of your videos because I really enjoy them!
You are so useful for me as I'm a starter in cities skylines and I have wondering how people make their roads look nice and stuff like that. And no one goes into detail except for you as you make 40 minute videos, but every minute is worth it. I give you my appreciation for working so hard on these videos!
I just recently bought a computer so I could play with mods instead of playing on my PS5. This video was perfect timing for me since mods are completely new to me and I need all the help I can get. Great stuff! regardless I watch all of your content anyways
I've ALWAYS wanted to know what mod you had that rotated the trees! Fantastic work as usual! I can't wait to delve back into the game and use the plentiful knowledge you've bestowed to make a really visually stunning city!
I just finished watching your 2 year old tips for begginers video, and i'm amazed at how much your voice (or mic) has improved over the years. It feels like 2 completely different persons
I would put precision engineering above move it. Having a standard measurement is absolutely crucial and I can't believe it's not part of the standard game.
I don't typically use browser bookmarks. I've bookmarked this video. As early indications suggest that CS2 will be Windows only (I have a Mac), my only options to enjoy CS will be to plod along at home with CS1 for as long as it is supported and to get my CS2 fixes from you, Biffa, Joy, and others. On the CS1 front, this mod list will become my new baseline. Thank you for taking the time to assemble it.
So looking forward to this bc watching you is so inspiring but OVERWHELMING, just thinking about the mods and how to use them. I love that you made this video
These mods, and I'm sure others you'll include in part 2, have been such an essential part of my game since I've started diving in and enjoying Cities:Skylines vs being intimidated by it that I forget they are mods. They are core to my understanding of how to play this game.
I was how old when I learned that "X" does this...yep, after using many of these mods for a while, you still showed tools/features that I had no clue about!! Thanks, CPP!!! You may be covering it in part 2 but Skyve definitely needs to be on the list. It saved my bacon after the previous DLC janked a few older mods. Studying the incompatibility spreadsheet turned my eyeballs into pained puddles of ocular vitreous! Also, a decent options to City Vitals is Watch It! Revisited which has a cleaner (IMHO) interface.
Love your content, but never played the game I was more interested in this video than I thought I'd be. Now I have a better understanding about how you play.
I'm not even five minutes in and this is already so helpful. I've always used MoveIt even when I'm otherwise playing "vanilla" and never really dug that far into it. Mostly I just use it because I absolutely can not bear wonky roads. Learning stuff like "duplicate in place" and line up objects, etc will help so much!
This video came in perfect timing for me!!! I just completed my first gaming pc build. I been a console player since the OG Atari. It was because I found this game on GamePass hence how I found this channel. Built the pc so I could properly play this game. Well mostly this game but I will definitely enjoy all the other games I grew up playing
I was literally just thinking: "I think it's finally time to try mods, let's see if City Planner Plays has any recs". Lo and Behold a brand new video on just the topic lol
I'm not sure how people play without it? The day I downloaded CS for the first time 5 years ago I went ahead and picked up move it before even jumping into my first play. It might as well be part of the base game.
@@jake12.48bruh yea, i use it so much it might aswell be in the base game, it's such a core feature of the gameplay loop that i cannot understand how people play without it
@@jake12.48hey please help me i have cracked version and i downloaded the mod and paste it but it's shows error i can't use mod please help me😢 how to use it.
My personal “can’t live without mod” is Lifecycle Rebalance Revisited by algernon. It might be on your part 2, who knows. It always baffled me that you start your city with citizens who have never even graduated elementary school but are somehow capable of running a coal power plant. Lifecycle Rebalance provides more variety in age and education level of immigrant cims. Hospitals and medical centers become less useless because cims can randomly get sick. That mod really helps fix some of the un-realism in the game. Another good one to pair with Lifecycle Rebalance is You’re Fired by Delta 5-1, which enables industry and commercial to free up space for more educated cims to take up space in the workforce.
This is going to be so helpful. I started out on console years ago and have been too hesitant to learn mods and how they can all work together. Thanks CPP!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am relatively new to the game and have been searching these passed 2 weeks on what mods to use. There are many videos and ideas out there but they are old and some of the mods no longer work, so to have an up to date list is great. Between you, Biffa and Overcharged Egg you've all helped me so much to get to grips with this game and am loving it as much as i used to love sim city.
You left out a great use for BOB, adding new props to buildings. I mainly use that feature to make grand firework shows by adding multiple firework launchers to the Parklife park entrances, and they all trigger at the same time. Also one weakness to Surface Painter is that it only paints in a non-rotatable square, so diagonals are never straight.
Thank you for this great video, cnnot wait for part 2 🏭 Side note: The starting money on Game Anarchy affects your game each time you load your save. I was busy on a map and each time I play it the money I built up was set back to the start money value. So it is good for a boost to start a new map, but remember to switch it off before saving and exiting the game. If you are not saving money to do major changes then you can keep it on if you like.
Thanks for making a new series of mod videos, this is really helpful for those of us just starting out in Cities and looking to add a bit more to the game!
Great list. I only started playing last year. I was on Vanilla for 6 months, then i got some expansions, during a sale, played with those then got a few more at the next sale. I recently got Campus. I still got to get Airports, Hotels and Retreats, Plazas and Promenades, Sunset Harbor, Natural Disasters and Snowfall, are my last. Anyway just want to say some of these are really helpful. Undo It is a godsend. Move It, I love what I see and i've only done a few basics. Surface Painter is one I like and felt was needed cause when I got Parklife I was really disappointed when it came to pavements. There's that generic stone pavement for city parks but parks are known to have dirt and gravel too, even cement, so to have those surfaces is really handy. Extra Landscaping Tool is another good one, i knew about this for a while, and was one of my first mods i used, but I seem to not fully understand how it works cause it is always building these massive hills or canyons. So maybe my brush strength is too strong. The Network Multi Tool is really handy. I've recently made a few Cul De Sacs. They look really nice on some of my blocks. City Vitals very handy. Also like ACME. That extra Camera. Play It is cool. Controlling Day and Night. Yeah, so had lots of fun in my play through today.
hey Phil, great vid as ever! recently Skyve (aka new Compatibility Report mod) recommended for me, who use both BOB and Hide It!, that I use BOB's hide ruining & disable it on Hide It!, as apparently it's better for stability and prevent some bugs!
LISTEN WELL, Paradox & CO! This is your benchmark for CS2! Thanks for making this video. I assume it's one the most satisfying and hardest ever. Thanks to all the modders who make C:S so great, e.g. to Algernon, BloodyPenguin, Quboid; thanks for their support, especially to ChameleonTBN. Just guessing content of part 2: NC, NMT, TMPE, RenderIt, PlayIt, LSM, Skyve, ABLC. The list will never be complete
Finally a new episode of my favoutite youtuber i have watched all of the episodes of clearwater VB and Nicolet. Sadly this isnt a useful episode for me as i play on console😢
Thanks for the video, I've been looking for a one-stop list that isnt over a year old so this is perfect. Gotta back the bass down a smidge in your mic settings though, wrecking my ears D:
I'm always looking to use only the nice mods, this list reduces them a lot and yes, they are the ones I always use, but I think I have more that are not needed, as I have like 80 mods enabled... I am waiting for the second list or maybe the third! thanks for all the work!!!
this was so amazing, there were some features i never knew existed it answered all questions that you could possibly have and i would suggest adding the mod "pollution solution" its kinda cheating but it makes cities more realistic
Great video! I tried most of these mods, if not all of them 😂. Been watching your channel for awhile and I recently tried something in my game that I would love to see you try: A golf course, clubhouse and community... I found it very challenging and would like to see the way you would plan it out.
new to the game. been watching a ton of your stuff. i would love an in-depth on setting up bus networks. i have watched so many videos and the best I ever seem to get is about 50% usage. Never enough though to actually make a profit, or to see the car trips replaced change from 0% to anything. So yeah, can't wait for the next mod list video, but would really love an in-depth on what makes a functional, profitable bus line.
Very nice list. I think I only differ in using "Watch it" instead of "City Vitals Watch". Was a bit surprised to see you not using "Precision Engineering". In part 2 you show "Ultimate Level of Detail". You can switch that against "Visibility Control" - offers the same functionality plus more. Maybe you can do a different list for vanilla fixes. There is still some "bugs" in the final version of CS. I use "Post Truck Fix", "Better Train Boarding", "Public Transport Unstucker", "Airplane Fix" and "Call again". Though technically not fixes, I also use "You're Fired" and "Check Road Access for Growables", wich is very useful if you have service vehicles despawn all the time to find out where the problem comes from.
Thank you for this beginners guide to the mods and hotkeys. As I prep for *_Cities Skylines 2,_* this will be helpful as I'm sure some, if not most, of the hotkeys and shortcut buttons will be the same 👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was getting a bit of deja vu from this video, and then it hit me-Moddington is built on the same map as Orchid Bay. It was the put-airport-here island that made it clear to me. There were some mods I don’t use in here, that I will have to check out. Also some ones that look like newer versions of ones I have used before. (And of course a bunch that I use all the time like Move It-how can people actually make decent networks without that one). Things I suspect will be in part 2: TMPE, network multitool, node controller, IMT- all mods I use a lot.
81 tiles2 mod is a huge memory hog and slows down the game very much even without unlocking any tiles. I have removed it and now am using 25 tiles unlock mod.
The fact that achievements get disabled is what scared me in to playing Vanilla all this time, only now do I discover that can be overridden all these years later!
I used node spacing a lot when I was making realistic powerlines. I used realistic spacing for different voltage lines. It looks really cool when different voltage a parallels With the large map in cs2 I might even use 345 or 500 kv, whereas cs1 I found that much more than 138 kv wasn't necessary.
I think that Watch It! Revisted is a better mod than City Vitals Watch as it also shows the limits as well as the problems in your city. I think it should be on this list instead of City Vitals Watch
