I've been putting my gear together piece by piece. I got a G923 last year and this year I got a wheel stand. I had the wheel mounted on a a plastic table with dumbbells holding the legs down. I used two cat litter buckets to keep the pedals from getting away by bracing them against a wall. I used torn strips of towel to wrap around my chair's wheels to keep it from moving across the carpet. It's a little better now and it'll be a better next year too but at least it always has me driving and learning.

Bro, I'm in a similar situation, and came here to thank you for the towel idea, genius!

I Cut my teeth in sim racing with Live for speed, I Highly recommend giving it a go! it's got a free demo track any pc can run it and is great in VR! The feeling it gives is incredible!! still my favorite, you are right about gran turismo you need to learn how to drive round corners fast first! Great video!! excited for the next one thank you!!

Just getting into this hobby and I love this video as I basically know nothing about Sim racing, was more into Flight Sim for years. I do have a PS4 and racing wheel and Gran Turismo 5 to get me started. I am looking forward to this series of videos. Thanks for making them available.

I don't even have a PC at this moment. Let alone the seat, steering wheel, pedals, the rig that holds them all together...

Assetto Corsa vanilla version is SUPERB on PS4. It's identical with the PC version The Ultimate edition costs what... $15? Played that for years and there's plenty of content. Sure the PC mods are amazing but the base game is the same. If you have PS5 you can also enjoy Assetto Corsa Competizione on 60 FPS. You don't need a PC for superb sim racing experience. Sure, there's only two real sims on a console but those two are the best ever made, imho.

My biggest problem is that since I got my start on more arcadey sims like GT1-7, I learned bad habits, manly driving too agreaively. In the last couple of years I've switched to more realistic sims make the damage visual and especially recently have the goal of a close race w/ little visually obvious damage (can ~ 1/2 the tme). In all the sims I've used the last couple of years (AC, PC2, RF2, AMS 1&2, R3E), all crashes I've had were at least partially my fault (many times had to check the replay). To drive so that there is little likelihood of making a slight mistake that would ruin a race w/ damage on or online, I have to drive so cautiously, it kills the fun bk I can't consistently tell where the edge is. My wheel (T-300) doesn't seem to ever give strong enough feedback to be able to understand what the sim is trying to tell me. The best ffb I've ever felt was in RF2, but it is such a pain to get working properly, I rarely use it anymore. The next best ffb I've felt is in R3E, but I can't access any of the content I bought (Pro pack ~ 1.5 yrs ago). The ffb does feel pretty good in my hands but never enough to inform me on what the car is doing (eg understeer) and w/ the latest update, i can't play it bk my C-drive ran out of space for the mandatory update through Steam. My most used sim is AMS2, and I'm pretty happy w/ it but it's way too lenient w/ track limits [I often need that 3rd party (eg the AI) telling me I cut the corner too much, R3E was way better as well as F1 2019 b4 my PS4 was stolen] and it's often hard to finish a 20 min race w/ no damage. I still don't really trust myself to enter an online race and not screw up somebody else's race while still pushing hard enough to be fun😒. If I could get more feedback, I think I could find that border line of fast, but safe. I've considered getting Next Level Racing's haptic feedback seat liner or a direct drive wheelbase, but it's not really in my budget (largely influenced by struggles I've had to get hardware & software to work hence worries of more struggles).

Got myself a T-GTII and T-LCM pedals (with added mod), plus a GT Omega Art rig. Only been racing with it for a couple of days now, after decades with a controller, and all I can say is it seems a steep learning curve. Think it will be a while until i am the same speed i was with controller. Immersion however is incomparable!

Why make it complicated? Buy a decent wheel and Assetto Corsa. I've been through them all... iRacing, ACC, rF2, AMS1, AMS2. And guess what: In the end of the day Assetto Corsa is still the best.
