I really loved during the smith era, when the DW span around and became the tardis, I think it worked well on the logo. I also weirdly love the 1987-9 logo
I think nostalgia accounts for a lot - because my favourite logo is in fact the original neon one which was the one that was current when I was a teenager. I can't believe that you think the slightly wonky 6th doctor version is superior to this one. I also think it's a shame you were so down on the original logo - that one is a classic to me.
9th doctor "metallic eye" logo is not to be considered as logo on its own since the yellow-red version was the definitive one and used on merch since series 1. The metallic logo is an early version replaced before the show aired but after the titles was made. It was too late to change it probably for budget reasons
Bro really summed up my personal feelings for all the logos to a t here, I think updating the diamond logo was the perfect move, they took a good logo that everyone liked and hadn’t been seen on everything (Pertwee/McGann Logo) and added those little tweaks that bumped it up from being a good logo to a great one
And the best part is, it’s still going to be used for the rest of the remaining Blu-rays in “The Collection” series! Having the whole collection on the shelf with the same consistent logo is going to look fantastic!
Great work, very interesting and informative. I was in total agreement with how you felt about each logo.... aside from the fact that I actually really loved the Matt Smith / DW logo, personally and would've put it in 'yeah'.
The removal of the emphasis on the 'WHO' has totally flown in the face of first question. The question that must never be answered. The question hidden in plain sight. The question he's been running from all his life.
Great tier list! Just one correction: the second neon logo (which added a purple color and a slight warping to the first neon logo) was only used during the Sixth Doctor's final season, not from the Twin Dilemma through The Ultimate Foe. So the first neon logo was actually used through 1985 (last seen in Revelation of the Daleks) and the second neon logo was only used in 1986 for Season 23 (a.k.a. The Trial of a Timelord).
When the new logo was reavelled. I was like "Wait this logo reminds me of another logo." I had to log it up and I loved it. I had only watched some part of the classic thanks to some of the DVDs being available at my local library. We didn't have britbox at the time and took until last year. It's a gift to my mom, not from me but one of my siblings.
Honestly I don't really like the new era's logo. Feels really vintage and outdated, whereas the 2018-2022 logo looked more modern and mysterious, in a way? But I totally get your opinion. I really enjoyed this video, thank you :)
pretty fair. I mean it's down to taste at the end of the day. I'd probably bump up the wilderness logo and rename the tiers because I don't hate any of them.
the 2005 l8go was actually a production mistake - that's why it's on none of the merch xD It was the placeholder logo and they forgot to change it for release
I've been exposed🤣. I've only watched a select amount of stories from each classic Doctor. Currently going through all episodes in order at the moment though. Just finished Robot (part 2) as I type.
Logo #2 is the worst, it's not even a logo. 7 and 9 look really dated now, but fit their times. Like the new logo lots! but the shield is too busy, I expect they'll simplify it out as some of the others got
Did I know that you would bait us by putting Sylvester's logo in the Oh yeah category? Yes, yes I did. Why is everyone salivating over the Disneyfied logo? Swing and a miss. They already ruined Star Wars and Marvel, might as well do it to Doctor Who!
What “Disneyfied logo”? They’re only the broadcaster for non-UK/RoI markets, and it’s literally the most famous logo the show’s ever had, revamped for the 60th anniversary!
Honestly I’m not a fan of the new who logos. I’ve always like the Tom Baker logo. It keep’s everything centered reminding me of the Star Wars logo for the movies. I’m glad RTD went back to this.
Now that you mentioned it, I'm upset how much the new one reminds me of the Paw Patrol logo 😂😂 it's a great reinvention of a classic though so I'm not toooooo upset, just a pinch
I think the logo is, yes, as is the winking Doctor, but a lot of the rest of it is good or great. The TARDIS is great. The whirling space is great. The Dots that fly off of the logo look swish and fantastic. I think it describes the McCoy era to a tee. What it does well, it does fantastic but it does fail terribly on other things.
Maybe because it's the one that introduced me to Doctor Who but I actually think the 7th Doctor logo is one of the best. I love it and the whole title sequence. Each to their own though.
