ahhh Tom...We must be kindred spirits! My 2 biggest Rock guitar heroes are Eddie and Yngwie...and you have captured their explosiveness, precision and spirit in your courses. I'm already enrolled in your Swedish Shred Secrets and I will be enrolling in your Shred Like Ed!!!! WhooHoo, thanks!
Many people think of Van Halen as the best at playing solos... in reality his rhythm parts are unmatchable, not technically, but due to the idea he had of the guitar... it was all there, power, groove, tone ... and you are an incredible guitarist, who interprets it at its best:
@@JohnEtter-z3o That dude is really good but, if I’m being a perfectionist, he’s a little sloppy. Timing is sometimes off and leaves little mistakes in. But, he’s way better than I am so who the f am I to talk.
OMFG!!! I've listened to TONS of Eddie covers over the years, but no one has done a better job of encapsulating the tone, the licks and, especially, the FEEL of Eddie!
Awww. Wish I'd have seen them. ZZ Top was my first. Great show. You got to see them in all the raw, effervescent youth that they were while making their best music.
If you do the Hagar era, I think 5150, Black and Blue, Summer Nights, Poundcake, Amsterdam, Can't Stop Loving You, and Cabo Wabo would be some great choices.
@@zackvanhalen Great choices. Might need to go buy a Transtrem to handle Summer Nights. Totally worth it. Love the Hagar era. Don't know why it cops so much hate. The DLR era was incredible, but why does one have to 'beat' the other you know? Apples and Oranges.
Eddie van Halen didn't pass away, he just moved to venus where it always rains metal 🤘🤘. But seriously, thank you so much, Sir Edward Van Halen, for the music you gave us. There was never one like you and there will NEVER be another. Thank you for being the legend you were and are, and forever will be. The world of rock/metal was never the same when you entered and it will never be the same when you departed. I love you, sir, you were more than a musician. You were an inspiration, a hero, and a legend, and always will be. I love you, man, Rest easy for me, and God bless.
Your tone and playing are amazing! You make it look so easy. "I don't ask for permission!" Unchained is, was, has been and always will be my favorite VH song.
very well done, honest and sincere homage to the immortal Master. as you said, "Eddie will never be conquered" and you've been respectful, i think the Master smiled approvingly 🤘💛🤘
Dang dude you kick ass! It must have taken a good deal of time to play that well and sound so much like Eddie! I was blown away listening to this medley. Simply amazing!
❤🎉. Sat he stunned, amazed, in ore.. Then a tear in my eye, thinking of Eddie's passing. Being the age I am, I have every VH vinyl, and then the CD's. ... you awoke my love of every album. Mate, what a tribute. Thank you 😢
👏👏👏 ... I echo that! I have been waiting my whole life to get Ed's tone & play like Ed. I signed up for Tom's courses and bought a Helix today ... I'm so happy to find "Shred Like Ed" on RU-vid! I was fortunate to see VH 3 times. 1982 (Nassau Coliseum NY), 1984 (MSG NYC), 2015 (Jones Beach NY). In 2015, 1 was 5 rows back and on Ed's side of the stage. He sounded great. I yell-out out to him, saying it was great to see him ... he gave me a big smile, and I snapped a great pic. He is missed so much! RIP!
Best cover of 'Jump' solo ive heard yet. The timing of that last bit is _almost always_ messed up in covers; subtle, but so obvious when it's wrong. Nicely done 👍
We had VH play in our backyard party in 1974 before any of their own songs were made. They were the #1 backyard garage band in the San Gabriel Valley. It cost us $200 the first time when they played in El Monte Ca. and $300 the second time when the Party in the Desert was busted before it started. I saw them play right after they signed with their record label in 75 or 76 at the Golden West Ballroom in Norwalk Ca. It was a dance hall on Thursday nights for rock and roll and that Thursday night it was a concert that headlined UFO and Van Halen. They both played their first original songs off of their first LP's. It was beyond amazing to hear history being made and nobody knew it at that time. Van Halen definitely was far better than UFO that night, and as history has proven. I am commenting on the Panama video and it's just my opinion...Old fat grandpa lead man that can't sing with a talented tourist back-up band with too many players on stage. When did sweatpants become "Rock-Wear"? I was more than disappointed when I have seen way better cover bands playing at the NASCAR Races in Phoenix Az. Again...This is just my opinion. I have also given advice to a young Chayce Beckham who in the beginning of his songwriting career was into Reggae Music and wrote about what he knew about at the time...Booze, Broads and Blunts. I told his stepdad give him time, he is only writing about what he knows about now. As time went on he would win the American Idol Contest in season 19 in 2021. I hope everyone keeps on rocking and you can like or love whatever kind of music that floats your boat. River Rick out.
I'm blown away! You are clearly a dedicated EVH student. Many try, some come close but you kicked ass and took names with this medley. I can't wait for the next installment of the Sammy era. You earned a new subscriber big time! 🤘
AMAZING JOB! Very well done! I'm not familliar with all of Eddie's catalog, but certainly I felt like watching him playing in your play, because you replicate really well his signature swing! Keep on going!
Spot on renditions of MR EDWARD VAN HALEN guitar work and this is coming from a true VAN HALEN fan from 78 to 84 ŵhen i first heard running with the devil and then ERUPTION i was hooked best band that ever formed the chemistry between all band members was phenomenal the music was dynamic in your face explosion nuclear bomb rock! RIP MR EDWARD VAN HALEN i and all wish you were still here !😢
Your rendition of Eddie Van Halen solos was absolutely mind-blowing You captured his signature style and technique flawlessly. A true guitar virtuoso Cheers
Great transitions, awesome tone and an amazing show of dedication to not just play the licks but also capture so many of the nuances in Ed's playing. I found myself watching your picking hand just as much as the fretting hand, very nice work!
Are we sure that Eddie isn't still alive and he's trolling us with this video? My god, the best covers I've ever seen. Thanks for adding, "Mean Street," a song I think gets overlooked too often. Your attention to every detail of EVH is perfection. Thanks for putting this together and keep it up.
I tend not to listen to Van Halen covers - but here I am listenin' to this for what - the 12th time. Incredible! Gobsmacked at how great this sounds - you nailed everything.
Its funny to see a EVH stamped on a Fender Strat...not many play with such clarity and smooth technique, I applaud you and wish you well,. Regards~ Gary
Allllrighhht…ahhhh ah aha ahhhhhhhh!!! That was awesome 👏🏼 Your notes sounded more like live Ed than note for note covers and your transitions were so smooth and effortless. Well done. Thanks
Thank you for watching. I couldn’t agree more. Jimi was special, but EVH is incomparable. Which is why we love to celebrate what he gave us until we die!
Damn that was so good I had to watch it twice in a row I loved the he'll out of it. I KEEP WAITING ON David Lee Roth to start singing when you started playing Panama , you sounded just like Eddie the only other person that I knew could play that was Wolf Gang Van Hallen. Dam Great playing.
THAT! Was so much FUN! Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing this with all of us. At one point I laughed out loud. The joy still shines through after all these years. Thank you, Mr. Tom. Great effin' work! :)
You are so welcome! Thanks for commenting too. EVH’s playing was full of joy, and I think it’s great to celebrate him in whatever way we can. Long live EVH 😎 👑
