I remember what a thrill it was to ride in my friend's Europa back in high school.. Sitting so low to the ground and accelerating into the corners as we drove throughout our town was such a great feeling.. So, I have always been a fan of the Lotus. I have an S3 Elise CR. Before that, I was driving an S2 Rover engine car. The Elise is such a beautiful car. I love them all. I salute you for giving Elise her name.
Just found your RU-vid program. Elisa, you did a great job in comparing the two models, and as an S1 owner as well as an S2 owner, I agree with your conclusions. The S1 handling can’t be beat. But even with that said, both are fun to drive!

I too have an early S1 Elise and I’ve always wondered how much better the newer versions are. I think your conclusion is that the S1 is still the car closest to the pure driving experience.

Wonderful comparison Elisa, thank you! Your enthusiasm and passion for the cars is great to watch. Great to hear that the S1 is still your favourite, although I would love the 240 sport too. You can never have too many Elises! I also have a silver S1, which I’ve owned for the last 16 years and love it. The thing that EVERY Elise driver says is that it make them smile, sometimes laugh. How many cars can do that? I recently had my car serviced at a Lotus specialist. The mechanic delivered the car back to my home - when he jumped out of the car, he was grinning from ear to ear, and said “I HAVE to get myself an S1!”. Even the specialists forget how good they are. :)
Great video Elisa and thanks for presenting this in English. I too have had and Elise S1 and now an Elise S3 (220 sport). They are both great drivers cars. I agree with your review. The S1 was a bit more raw - and probably the better driver's car, although definitely a bit harder to live with. The S3 is a bit heavier as you say but with more power. Anyway, you gave your name to a great car. Thank you.

I agree re the S1 ❤ I have owned a few Elises before, a 400hp supercharged S2, a 220hp S1, a standard S1 111S and after a break of 6 years due to a motorsport accident, I’m back in an S1 😊
Agree completely. when i got my 250 (Greta) I thought it would be the same to drive as Lilly my first Elise as she was a 220 Club Racer but they are totally different to drive. Do i love the new one more than the old one,,,,,, Errr no I loved my CR but the new one is so much more refined but like you I am still getting used to the feel of it as I am still not throwing it about like I did with Lilly.

Hello Elisa, I would say the same as you. I've also ridden all the Elises and Exige and in the end I came back to the Elise S1 because it's simply unique. It is also uniquely fast in the slalom, which we still prove at the CST Trophy. And yes, she is and will remain a family member. I wish you lots of fun with the two of them and hope to see you again sometime.
Surely nobody better to compare the cars. I love the series 1. Such a beautiful, delicate shape. Lighter and purer. I love the new car too. Beautiful and powerful, but I agree. Series 1 wins
Great to see a comparison from someone so familiar with them. Thank you for taking the time to share your passion for these cars and for driving. It is doubtful I'll ever own an Elise but driving one is now on my bucket list. In the meantime, I'll keep driving my BRZ but waiting for the chance to check out an Elise. Taking one to an autocross would be the ultimate!

Such a good video, super helpful. I was leaning towards an S3 for looks, power and the seats but the way you are raving about Eli has me reconsider. Maybe the seats (and shifter) can be upgraded?
Keep in mind this was a present from her grandpa...I doubt she will want to change anything about this beauty of a car. Also, given this was the very first Elise, maintaining it as original as possible makes a lot of economic sense too.

Dalle mie parti c'è una S1 rossa, bellissima, non so chi sia il proprietario, ma lo invidio molto (in senso buono intendo). Mi piacerebbe molto poter provare una di queste piccole follie inglesi... poi però mi tocca tornare al volante della mia MG ZR 105, è permalosa e mi fa scherzi... una ruota mi ha cigolato per 2 anni prima di scoprire che voleva i cerchioni montati in una posizione precisa... sarà che è rossa! :P
