I have a hot take - the bride who bought beauty packages for her bridesmaids that actually the bridesmaid could be perceived as rude. She didnt have to pay for it and thats a dang deal! Many brides ask their their bridesmaids to pay for a required beauty package. My impression was that the bride was ok with the bridesmaid to come more natural. However from how the bride describes how she arrives is that she looks sloppy and ill prepared. The dress unhemmed by 3 inches tells me enough - i was a ballet dancer and if you arrived without your costume property prepared, that was a big no no. I think she was asking for her to get makeup done thinking that it was polish her up a little. I have a lot of friends that dont or are allergic to makeup - so hopefully people and maybe the bride would respect that. Additionally, she descibes the hair as somewhat unkempt or little effort. And there were folks doing hair for free so there was no point of not taking advantage of that. NOW!!! GIVING the bridesmaid the benefit of thw doubt - she is probably completely unaware of how weddings work. I will admit there have been situations where i didnt know what to wear or expectations for a wedding bc no one told me... i get the feeling thats how this woman was - probably unaware. Additionally, with the bride asking her several times to take advantage of it doesnt necessarily mean that the bridesmaid was being malicious but maybe dense. Which is fine. Ive been there too and sometimes youre not aware of what people want. Perhaps the bride wasnt direct enough with the bridesmaid. We're left out of a lot of the nuance in the situation. Personally, based on personal experience on both sides - i dont think either person is the asshole

Former bridal consultant chiming in. I would tell brides who were picking clingy or revealing dresses for a wide range of figures that it would draw attention away from them if it looks like they are following a butcher's window of stuffed sausages down the aisle. I carried just enough extra weight myself to be able to say that without coming off as genuinely trying to be helpful to all parties rather than as a mean girl. For the bride annoyed at the bridesmaid who came without hair and makeup done, I agree, that is not a big deal. But I will say that coming with the dress unhemmed or altered is a bit tacky on the part of a bridesmaid. Bridesmaid dresses are made really long (normally you have to be over 5'8 or 9" to need extra length), so if the bridesmaid was short, it could be six inches or more too long. And some also really need tucks under the arms to prevent bosoms like the prow of a ship. If a bridesmaid is not going to be able to get their dress altered for some reason, they should be letting the bride know in advance. It's a bit more reasonable for a bride to be annoyed with that one thing, as it is a pretty standard thing, and most dresses do need some alteration or could look distractingly bad. Chris, while I'm not an ancient alien theorist, I'm pretty well versed on UFO lore. What's your "pet favorite" UFO story? I like Kecksburg, Pennsylvania (from the 60s) because it's semi-close to where I live. Do you have a weird affinity for say, the Rendlesham Forest incident because it's in England? Or is there a more northern story I should look up?
