I bought the Thermal R&D for my FoST, it has an amazing even sound that is very low key when cruising instead of super aggressive.. Don't get me wrong, when you put the foot down it will definitely growl but it works really well for keeping my wife happy with the sound of the car while providing me with the performance boost that I was looking for.
I gotta say guys, that Borla sounded GREAT! I can't believe you lost power though =( This is an awesome video idea, very helpful. I have a '13 ST2 with a stock DP and and a hacked up exhaust (previous owner) - no res and no muffler. It's still kinda quiet with the stock DP but I'm not willing to put the Cobb DP on the car that's sitting in the box until I can get a real catback. Definitely interested to see part 2, leaning towards Cobb at this point. +50 DKP for sharing the weight as well!
I have the Borla exhaust with a high flow cat 3" downpipe and its perfect for what I wanted, absolutely screams at WOT but pretty much no highway drone thanks to Borla's well made cat back.
@@censoredialogue probably haven't had it long enough to tell but I will say getting the O2 sensors off of the stock downpipe was a job and half. For reference I got the 1320 high flow cat of of ebay and saved 300 dollars opposed to a cobb one. Quality of the one I got was surprisingly good
Thermal R&D makes the best zero drone ST exhaust and sounds great. The tip design also fits the bumper really well. It's like a high level OEM+ system.
Great video guys!! I’ve had the Afe, the borla and now currently run thermal r&d. Afe might be the loudest exhaust I’ve had and I loved the borla but needed a true 3” for the big turbo setup I’m currently building.
I have the GREDDY SP catback and Levels Performance catless downpipe, the best tone and bass by far. I've heard them all in person and convinced quite a few ST owners to swap there Borla, MBRP and Cobb to GREDDY.
Love the video. I'm definitely a fan of the softer/quite sound. I'm older so the higher the sound the more it sounds like a really loud lawnmower to me. Then again I drive like an old man so I'm not trying for a racer sound but I get why people do go for it. Just want something that isn't as non existent as the stock while not sounding like I'm not going to a race meet. Sounds like Cobb is where it's at for me.
I have to say in the first segment of this video. I know it's a lot of work sampling each exhaust. So thank you so much for doing this video and putting in the work we, the viewers, can decide what exhaust system to buy that best fits us. Great job.
The AWE Touring you’ve got installed is actually the Non resonated version. I have that one too! The full Touring comes with the additional resonator the track version uses up front. This one’s a louder but a perfect, livable setup on stock downpipe.
i have literally every AWE Setup possible lol.. I personally did not like the non-resonated sound at all sounded "vtec" up top and like tractor downlow. just my imo. some people love it.
Yeah my muffler/res delete with a magnaflow drop in muffler is my favorite. Cheaper than all these systems, I put nice looking tips on it, and it sounds the best hands down (and its loud like I like)
That AWE touring exhaust sounds pretty freaking loud and raspy. Def louder than mine and I have the same exhaust with a cobb downpipe. I assume this one doesn't have the resonator is that correct?
I love my awe track with catless downpipe. Everyone complains that it’s too loud and that the drone is unbearable but I honestly have no clue why people say it. It’s obviously on the louder side but it sounds great
AWE Track Edition is in our second video, coming soon - we also happened to like that one! Make sure to tune in and see if our review lines up with yours!
Seriously wanted to hear the car fire up with the stock muffler cut-off! Such a tease, ROFL. I've heard good things about NXTStep Performance cat-back. Definitely a Borla fan though.
Owner of all AWE Setups👍👍 It was a log journey finding the perfect sound. Love the exchangeable of being able to go full race car noise to comfortable daily driver in less than 30 minutes of effort if I ever decide to... And the resonator makes such an enormous difference
@@coltonconroy1384 100% the resonator is imo the most important part of the whoel setup of this car. it will definitely making it more dailyable. The non resonated sounds terrible.
Crazy the stock exhaust made more power very interesting I have muffler delete stock downpipe and resonator its quiet till you put your foot in it but the awe touring turbo whistle with stock downpipe sounded really tempting 💥
Bought my injen at the same time as my CPE race downpipe, was my first mod after 2 weeks of ownership, fast forward 5 years later and now I've got a 2.3 stroker with a gtx3076 and I think it's been perfect for flowing good and surprising people with the throaty aggressive kinda rally like sound
The jury is still out for me. I'm interested in the Greddy exhaust sound. It's nice to see AWE has trash fitment across the board. Their quality control and customer support is the worst. I had to cut my rear valance to fit their exhaust. That's how much more of an angle they welded my exhaust. Thanks for the exhausting work you've done to bring us this.
@@Brandon-xe2se yep, everything was hooked up correctly. I promise you this isn't my first rodeo installing an exhaust. My muffler hangs farther down than the one in this video and is on a different angle. It just wasn't welded correctly. I have the kind of angle on the tips as seen here. Just greater of an angle.
@@focusforlife Ahhh are you sure it was something they did??? I had a very similar issue turned out it was just exhuast hangers being to soft and everything was sagging and sitting really weird
@@Brandon-xe2se I ordered new exhaust hangers with the exhaust. Believe me when I say cutting my valance was the last thing I wanted to do. I looked into adding washers to my exhaust hangers. I pulled the exhaust apart multiple times looking for where I didn't get everything seated right. I opened the slip joints to ensure the mating pipe was going all the way in. I even though about taking the exhaust to a welder but, my car was a daily driver. I wasn't going to run straight piped for however long it to to reweld the exhaust. After watching this video and seeing how the exhaust is angled up, it just confirmed AWE's manufacturing process isn't stable.
Just wondering will a downpipe always turn on the check engine light I'm looking into getting one but idk if I want to have a check engine light on all the time but I am planning on upgrading the turbo in the future
You guys are my hero's. I just got a 2017 ST and am itching to do some mods. I was just about to start looking for sound clips. What do I see in my YT feed? This video. Thank you for still making fresh ST content even though the newest model is no longer for sale in the US. Stupid Ford management.
Personally I wanted the Borla cat-back for my ST, price and my goal was the perfect match. 2 days before ordering they raised the price with a couple hundred dollars, so I ordered a 3 inch exhaust for more future options. I now have a Scorpion turbo-back exhaust and loving it. Little louder then stock but not obnoxious, perfect for not waking the neighbors every morning at 5am but still a good sounding sport exhaust.
I have an OBX Catted Down pipe that was NOT Legal in California and CANNOT be mailed to California (I tried) so I bought it anyway and had it shipped to my Dad in Colorado then had him mail it to me in California where I had It installed with a Flow Max stainless exhaust with its resonator ! It sounds great and not loud unless WOT ! I have done 3 RT to Colorado and back NO DRONE. ! I would recommend this set up for everyone !
I have it on mine and say it's perfect. Loud at wot but quiet when cruising around town. There is a little drone at highway speeds at 75+ but not noticeable if listening to music
I’ve got the Cobb exhaust but also have a Cobb catted downpipe. It sounds good but it gets annoying sometimes with how much drone there is. It’s far from quiet once you add a downpipe
And I thought I was the only person who enjoyed not hearing a droning exhaust note the entire time I'm behind the wheel and also not alerting everyone wthin 2 square miles to the fact that I'm accelerating rapidly. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Mountune on the 2013 FoST for the past 6 years. About like the Cobb, maybe a tad less aggressive. Quiet until you get in it, then a deep growl. It really sounds good on engine braking. No drone, which is great on long trips.
Debated between the AWE touring edition and the borla exhaust for a while before deciding on AWE because I’d rather be too aggressive than too tame. But I have to admit from this video the borla exhaust might sound a little better but I am still really happy with my AWE
just picked up a 16 fost with a rsr cat back. sounds like bubbles popping lol - edit - after listening to all of them it sounds a lot like the injen one.
Borla sounds good...basically sounds a lot like my 2.5" CNT Racing cat-back (with 3" CNT Racing cat-less dp). My CNT gets a lot of compliments and has a nice rumble, more 'muscle' like the Boral than the others. Though I dont know if i go BT, the 2.5" will suffice...y'all would know..3" necessary or is 2.5" fine on a BT?
I have the full catless CPE exhaust loved the sound, but for track use i decided to make a rear axle dump. Looks like when u first removed the stock muffler. LOL
I just installed Borla’a S-Type system on my 2018, so I wasn’t happy to see that dyno result 😬 I definitely gained some MPG, and I can’t say I noticed any difference in power good or bad, so maybe the S-Type is different in that regard? It’s definitely louder than the COBB, but I think it sounds very similar to your Touring system. Install was fine, no lift required. The only tricky part was torquing down the rear clamp over the subframe. The end result fits perfect with zero leaks or alignment issues.
I have the roush cat back but now I want something else 🥲😂. I’m gonna have to go titanium this time if I do decide to buy another one. Project half send has been very informative! Thanks y’all.
Lost power!? Lmao zero point in wasting $800 just to lose power and torque while increasing fart sounds. I’ll keep my stock exhaust for now for sure! 😂
Nick how is the drone on the freeway around 2500 RPM +/- a few hundred RPM at say 1/4 throttle? I'm back here re-watching the video trying to figure out how I went so wrong after installing a Cobb tuboback tonight (grabbed it on BF sale). HUGE drone, borderline painful. Rear seats folded down (I was just transporting an exhaust to a lift...) Going to try with the seats up normal and the package shelf in to see if it helps. Concerned that if it sounds that bad in the car that it sounds super loud/horrible outside the car?!?! Is the cat making all the difference between what's seen in this video and what I'm experiencing or do I have something else going on? My next move is going to be to put the stock cat back in.
@@charleswa So it sounds like you are catless? that will definitely introduce way more drone and unpleasant tone (In our opinion). We only choose performance downpipes with cats installed for our rides, and encourage our customers to choose the same.
Another great video! Cant wait or part 2! I think I am sold on the Cobb now. I will be going catless dp so with how quite the Cobb is it should be just the right amount of sound. I am over the super loud exhausts. Looking for performance not attention hahaha.
I buy for my Fusion 2.0l ecoboost the CPE 3 inch exhaust + CPE 3 inch downpipe + GTX 2867 GEN II with external wastegate from you and I'm very happy with the sound and performance :)
@@neverrelax8992 It the CPE exhaust for the Fusion 2.0l ecoboost, it a y pipe with double exhaust and no tip because the exhaust exist in the factory bumper with integrate rectangular tip.
I bought my 2017 ST with a FlowMaster (I think American Thunder, not the outlaw) from the previous owner. Do you have any opinions on that one? I think it sounds really good inside but never heard it from the outside
2.25 inch stainless tubing is so tiny compared to all these 3 inch exhausts. Damn I might have to change out the exhaust system away from flow master I’m kinda disappointed
Definitely sounds like it's designed to be an OEM upgrade, nothing wrong with that. These are great for refined sound, and great fit - you only really need to step up if you are chasing big power or want big sound.
Loved the video man! Can't wait for that PT.2 of this. I've been on the lookout for an exhaust system for awhile now and have been wanting to get the AWE because of their 180 tech on their resonators and mufflers, but I'll wait for the track version to see yalls reaction to it and see if it's actually worth it!
@@EdgeAutosport from what i recall, the factory bypass/recirculating valve is dead quiet.... i have the TS 50/50 and its the typical 'pshhhhhh'. That one def sounds like something you'd hear off a cold side charge pipe upgrade!
