Wow! Love how you bring in the wives Leah & Rachel. I always read it as if Jacob was slighted and perhaps he was but maybe it was dishonorable from the start to not first ask for the eldest daughter. Curious that Jacob seems to have been smitten based upon his carnality (mostly how she looked) and from her came king Saul (Benjamin) who also was a great choice for king externally (viewing through the carnal mind) and king David of course as you said comes from Judah who was from Leah who God chose by looking upon the heart.
