Bitlocker, also named as Bitlocker Drive Encryption, is a Windows encrypted security feature that allows users to encrypt all the data on the drive and restrict that information from any unauthorized access. It means Bitlocker can also protect your personal files from cyber theft. This security becomes more valuable when multiple users log in to your system. When the data present in the drive is encrypted, only an encryption password or a recovery key (in case you forget the password) can unlock it.

Hello dear! Thank you so much for the guide! I have Windows 10 Home and I don't have Bitlocker (the settings which can enable me to turn it off) on that Windows... instead I have "Turn Off Device Encryption" o on Device Encryption Setting from the Settings Menu... does it option decrypt the drives as well and how long would it take to decrypt 1.5tb ssd? Looking forward for your assistance! Thank you!

Hi there, thank you for your question! If you have Windows 10 Home, you may not have access to BitLocker, but you can use Device Encryption instead. To turn off Device Encryption, you can follow these steps: Open the Settings app, click on Update & Security, click on Device encryption, and click on Turn off. Please note that turning off Device Encryption will decrypt your drives. The time it takes to decrypt a 1.5TB SSD depends on various factors such as the speed of your computer and the amount of data stored on the drive. It could take several hours or even days to complete the decryption process. I hope this helps!

Bit Locker is very useful, IF you don't have too much stuff on your hard drives. Make sure it's totally way less what is on there before activating bit locker, because right now, I am trying to encrypt the external hard drive, and it's taking more than 2 hours to encrypt it. So back up your stuff and then set up the hard drive or flash drive to be encrypted and then add the files back on the device.

Thanks. Your information is far more valuable than this video itself. Dude just explained what is Bitlocker and how to enable it and gave no critical information at all; I can't really call this video "a guide". 2 Hours sounds really nice, people talking about day or days for a single terabyte of data. I have 4 TB HDD with 90 GB empty space, if the numbers are true, it would probably take a week to complete and if by any chance at any point of the encryption, if I lose power or something, there is a chance that would corrupt whole disk and trash the 4TB data that cannot be recovered or replaced. I have read some horror stories and I am living in a place where one week without any power outage is an absolute rare sight.

I got a little confused at the end - you rushed through logging in after BitLocker was enabled. To log in I will need a USB flash drive with a key on it each time I attempt to log in? Or will a password only work? If a USB flash drive is needed to log in, should the USB flash drive be formatted as NTFS? At what point is the USB flash drive made?

Hi there, thank you for your question! Sure, I can clarify. After BitLocker is enabled on your device, you will need either a USB flash drive or a password to access your files. If you choose to use a USB flash drive, you will need to insert it into your device every time you attempt to log in. The USB flash drive should be formatted as FAT32 or exFAT.During the process of enabling BitLocker, you will be prompted to create a recovery key, which can be saved to a USB flash drive. This recovery key is separate from the key or password you will use to access your files and is used to recover your data in case you forget your password or lose your USB flash drive.

If you have a TPM chip and you have NO issues you will not need to enter any passwords or recovery keys to access your data. I am not sure what Wondershare is talking about. If you are NOT using a TPM chip and/or you have a problem (like your TPM chip dies) you will need to have either the "unlock password" or the Recovery key or both to gain access to your data.

Click on "Turn off BitLocker" or "Decrypt" to confirm. 6. The decryption process will start, and it may take some time depending on the size of the drive and the amount of data stored on it. You can monitor the decryption progress in the BitLocker Drive Encryption window. 7. Once the decryption process is complete, BitLocker will be disabled on the selected drive.

It'll be safe - but it is worth mentioning that by default, Bit locker encrypts using AES-128 bit - if you want higher encryption to AES-256 bit you'll need to adjust your machine's local group policy, which you can find online how to do.
