The 808s and drums that were used in this video were from my Capital Drum kit! You can pick them up here: www.simonservida.com/product-page/capital-drum-kit
Man I feel like you're reading my mind! I needed a multifunctional drum kit and you dropped the Capital Kit the next day, I've been wondering how to go more in depth designing my kicks and 808s for like the past week and here you go! Great work man.
AkeemHimself...for real. He's got people thinking he is some kind of savant and all he's done is dragged and dropped some sounds (that AREN"T EVEN FROM THE 808) and titled his video the "Ultimate Guide" ha ha ha
Simon servida the only guy on RU-vid that can make your producing skills increase massively in 12min, very clear instructions, this guy is underrated as f*808*
I've only ever used VSTs for my instruments because I always had issues using one-shot tonal samples (for melodies, chords, 808s, etc.) because I never knew about the "cut itself" option! Thank you so much for that
I wouldn’t side chain your 808 with your kicks. Your beats will slap way harder, if you just EQ your kick and 808 around each other. Ask any famous Rap/HipHop producer, they don’t sidechain. UNLESS YOUR MAKING ELECTRONIC MUSIC. House, Trap, etc. I just wouldn’t do it. But the rest of this tutorial is pretty on point. Those super high end 808 with velocity (volume) control are kind ugly and I wouldn’t put them in my music... at least not a lot 😂 but it’s a cool skill to know. Good luck with your music man! You can check my beats out at:
@@drewjones5899 aye, he doesnt sidechain his 808 to his kick, he sidechains his kick to the 808. plus, when u put them at the right point, the mix knocks.
I’m just saying you really shouldn’t have to in hip hop/rap, you can get the same effect with EQ, if not a better effect. If you want bass to knock that is. If you were making a more jazzy piece or funky piece you might want them not to hit at the same time, so ducking/side-chaining might be the way to go.
pfff not shitting on simon but slides kinda old in trap music, not a special sauce. Look up Pulse or Skypierr on soundcloud if you wanna see actual sauce gods
I am really impressed with your knowledge of music theory, sound, mixing etc. A lot of these beat makers (even the top ones) are not even close to you! I really appreciate you took the time to understand music, functions of the DAW etc! And thank you for this tutorial! :)
Can’t believe you explained how to sidechain your kicks with 808s in less than like 30 seconds. Every other video makes it this extremely complicated process. I always learn new stuff from you.
Well you forgot one important thing: Tune your 808 to the correct note (since samples dont necessarily play on C). For that open it in Edison, detect pitch region and then correct the note of the 808 in it's settings. Another thing: choose mode to stretch and turn off the time delay knob all the way down. Otherwise the "resample" mode may sound muddy if you play other notes. As for mixer plugins: - EQ2 and cut the very inaudible low end. This will allow for more energy. - Fast Dist 2 is great for distortion. - EQ2 with Kick Preset may increase punchiness. - Finally add a soft clipper
Damn I honestly didn’t know you can do all this with 808s I usually find an 808 I like, slap it onto a beat, create a simple pattern, and then eq it plus I use ableton
Actually so helpful... I'm glad I stumbled upon this when I did because now I know exactly what my 808's are missing, and how to achieve the sound I hear in a lot of tracks. Thanks a lot Simon!
Great example of FL workflow allowing art to be created .....Love to see a vid on anything showcasing how FL Studio allows artists to create...Banger track by the way. Percussion and groove is dope.
Tylers new album features a lot of 808s as if they are a bass guitar, thus playing different harmonizations using 5ths, rests etc its very very cool, it will probably be of interest to you should you not have heard it already! Nice vid buddy!
If you compare tutorials to other producers, really, Servida teaches you 50% Engineering. Most channels are just 100% production which almost anyone can do. These technicalities to creating music really puts you on that next level. It also shows you just how powerful FL Studio is as a DAW.
Love you channel! I have trouble with making a good melody that doesn’t follow the same algorithm, because then al my beats sound the same. Could you please do an in depth tutorial on making melodies? Thanks a lot!
Naw i trust kenny , without kenny i still wouldnt side chain my 808s it literally just doesnt sound right and when u want something to hit a certain way u can just tell by hearing it , it doesnt even sounds good at least to me , plus i couldnt name u a single song that has sidechaining to it but that might be bs just cus i dont use it
This was an amazing 808 guide. I'd like to see a guide through your mixing process as you go. Do you do like Murda says and mix as you go or be very precise on the numericals? Thanks for the educational content!
I don't even have fl studios and I'm super new to producer and using daws and I got most of that except the mixing part... I get the music part very well and the rhythm and experimenting part but not mixing. I need help with mixing. Thank God for youtube.
Dude youre very good at this. Took you just a few min to make a grimy beat. Subbed. I would love to see a tutorial on all the knobs in all the different vst's like LFO etc.
I picked this up recently, for 808 delays you can also slide up the octave, than from that octave up to the octave your delay is at, and the delay and transition is cleaner
So that helped. I learned something. I just bought FL Studio Signature and I am not doing well with recording on the fly. One of the things I play is classical guitar and fully formed pieces come to me like a rainfall and I find it easier to open audacity and hit record, which was free, than fl studio. But my internal microphones suck so I have to use the external mic and audio interface which is fine but....by the time I open fl studio and open stuff, choose a mixer channel, open Edison......the piece is gone. The universe smiles on me a few times, I wanna catch them. CAN YOU PLEASE DO A RECORDING ON THE FLY QUICKLY. I am not the only one who needs it, for sure! Thank you.
It's also noteworthy that you can use fruity limiter as distortion (seperate from the sidechain) by turning the gain knob up and messing with the attack, release and sustain in the limiter tab. Fruity Fast Dist gives a similar effect.
This is not just another beat making video. Servida's video really improve your skill in 15 min fr. I saw this one back when he dropped it and 2 years later now im still checking back in like a wikipedia for beat maker
