Some people in these school administrations are snakes so be careful. I had a financial aid counselor at a trade school completely mislead me about all of this with no desire to actually help, he just wanted the school to look good by getting more money flowing through the system. Told me in a straight up guarantee (never do that) that I would get the full $6500. Ended up with $1200 that got split half and half between 2 semesters. I didnt know thats how it worked, he told me I would get $6500 lump sum. Bottom line is this: not every counselor or administrator is out to help you. They just want the institution to look better and they're scam artists in an office chair. Just be careful and do your own research.

I just went to financial aid and they told me that I can't get the money into my account even tho I have full tuition paid. They are saying they need to apply the pell grant to my tuition first. But I could've sworn that the pell grant can be transferred to my personal account

Hello someone give me advice please. I'm 54 years old I never use my peel Grant. I would like to use it for online courses to get my real estate license and maximize the most money in my pocket left over. I want a lot of grant money to keep for my living expenses because I'm homeless. And I also need to buy a lot of batteries for light so I can study and gasoline so I can charge my laptop in my car that I can drive anywhere. How can I use the program for that

The money from the Pell grant is distributed to the school you will attend. It will be applied to school related expenses.

I liked the informative video. If I got Pell grant for summer classes, how soon can I apply for another one if I'm planning to attend fall classes as well. Also, besides pell grant I was offered subsidized loan summer, should I take it? Thank you in advance.
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries 2 года назад
If you are still eligible for the Pell Grant when you file your FAFSA, you should be able to continue getting it each year. I would check your Student Aid Report you got when filing the FAFSA. I would only take a loan if you need it. My advice would be to continue to apply for scholarships until you have won enough money to no longer need loans, but if you don’t have enough right now for the coming semester, I’m not going to tell you you shouldn’t take the loan. Just make sure you treat the loan like borrowed money and not free money. Only take what you need and have a plan to pay it back. Best of luck!

How do you apply for a Pell grant if you already did your FAFSA

Your FAFSA is your Pell grant application. The data from your FAFSA is what determines your Pell Grant eligibility.

Thank you so much for still being active in the comments after all this time it is so helpful! Also, if I attend a university that is work at your own pace, is me being considered full time or part time strictly based off of how many credits I earned or does it also depend on how long it actually took me to graduate that year? Trying to figure out also if it matters what month I start since it’s remote and I can start at the beginning of any month so I want to make sure it’s all viewed as being in the same academic year and as full time.
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries Год назад
That is a great question and to be honest, I’m not sure. It’s typically semester based, so I would think all the classes started in the same semester would count towards full time status. However, it’s not something I’ve been asked before and don’t recall seeing anything about it specifically on the government website.

Question do the credits count only for the classes within your mejor?? I am confused I thought they pay you per credits ..know I been seeing they only pay you per credit for your major??
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries Год назад
I’m not 100% sure I understand the question, but the number of credit hours you take determines whether you are a full time or part time student. The amount of Pell Grant that you are eligible to receive is different based on whether you are a full time or part time student. But the amount of money you receive isn’t applied to certain classes. Whether pr not a class you are taking is part of your major or not doesn’t matter. You can still use the money from the Pell Grant to pay the tuition. Does that answer your question?
@alexanderstewart3452

Kind of a weird question here. I graduated in 2015 but looking at my pell grant info, I qualified for 6 years of pell grants and only utilized 3. I’m guessing I can’t claim those other 3 now that I’m working, even though I still have loan debt?
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries 2 года назад
You could use them still if you went back to school for some reason, but you can’t claim the money for years you weren’t in school. Meaning, it’s not like a balance of money is sitting for you to withdraw to use to pay down your loan. It’s only if you are taking classes that the Pell grant money can be used to help pay for them.

They send the money directly to the school that you choose to go to. It will appear on your financial aid letter from your school and be taken away from what you owe them.

Is receiving a deferred pell grant the same as any other pell grant? Because I start trade school soon and it shows my “expected pell grant: $2873 & pell deferred: $2608” so I’m kinda confused at the moment
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries 2 года назад
The pell grant is distributed each semester, so I believe that means you have $2873 awarded for this semester and the deferred $2608 is for next semester. I could be wrong, but that’s how I read that. Is there any fine print on the document you received at the bottom or back that clarifies anything?
@ovorell5918

@@ThomasTries I was told I must maintain a C average & stay in class for a minimum of 6 hours per day. This is part of the email if you don’t mind reading, thank you. “You are eligible for $5746.00 for the full academic year (Fall term - $2873.00/ Winter term - $2873.00). You have the first 5 days of class to withdraw without penalty. After that time frame has passed, you are financially obligated for the specific term. Being that we are a clock hour-based school, we are only able to request funds according to your earned hours of attendance for the term. If you withdraw early and the amount of Pell funds are less than the tuition, you will be responsible for the remaining balance. “
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries 2 года назад
Are you wanting to confirm that the part you put at the beginning of your comment is correct? The part about withdrawing just means if you withdraw from a class after the withdrawal period has closed, you still have to pay for the class. And you are responsible for anything you owe above what you will receive from the Pell Grant.

I was new here in the U.S and I filled up my FAFSA form and I put that I have savings eventhough I didn’t have, basically I lied about it, I put that I have $40,000 savings eventhough I don’t have. The reason I put it it’s because maybe they will not let me loan any money if I don’t have any savings. How can I get rid of the $40k that I put on my fafsa? My friends got pell grants and I don’t. How can I correct my fafsa form to be able tobe qualified in pell grant?
@sisteryaya24

Tell them you lied. Give them proof as to your savings.... then maybe. If that doesn't work, wait until the next semester and tell the truth.

Here is a link to what you can correct on your FAFSA and how. studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/review-and-correct/correct If you are unable to correct it, you will have to wait and update the information when you file the FAFSA next year.

Can they see what I spend my money on? Can I spend it on anything outside of educational purposes?
@ThomasTries
@ThomasTries 3 года назад
It depends. If you owe more to your school than the grant, when the money is sent to your school it will all be applied to your account. If you owe less than the grant, then some will get distributed to you for other educational expenses. But remember that educational expenses include transportation, housing, food, supplies, etc.

The money gets sent to the school so the money will first be used for educational expenses like tuition. If you have all your educational expenses covered, then you can get a distribution of anything left that can be used for the other things. But if you still owe money for tuition, that’s the first place it goes.
