The resistance on all my batteries is all over. Never had a problem.... yet
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Resistances can be varying throughout the pack and you will never know the difference. If they increased over time, you will notice a performance difference if you have performance metrics.

Cool! I checked the resistance on a 25C 2S 1600 battery (x2) trying to boot them from storage, one was badly undervolt, but i trickle charged it on Nimh mode then lipo balance charged. Back up n running!

@@RCexplained thankyou, its a receiver pack for a power hungry Futaba AR7000. (long range with satellite receiver, RC catamaran). Seems very slow to charge though, I thought 2hrs would do it normally, these are taking forever to charge up fully (at 7.6v on the good one so far)..Also, how would I do a safe discharge test?

I've run quite a few Capacity tests and have found that the Chinese Li-Po battery capacity marked on the batteries can only be achieved (or close to) if you discharge the battery to near 3.0 Volts and immediately fully charge it to 4.2V at 1C or less.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Yes, very common unfortunately.
@gillyboyrg2
@gillyboyrg2 9 месяцев назад
A capacity test isn't done by charging, it's done by discharging eg. Taking a cell that's at 4.2v down to 2.5v or whatever the cut off of the cell is, the way you are doing it is totally wrong. Ps. I'm not surprised you're doing it that way as I'm 1:10 in and that's how he's saying it's done oh lord lol

please put a video on how to storage in the long term these batteries and other chemistry even if they are kind of old but still in use like NiMh or NiCad where the topic is kind of confusing when using them back after being storage for months and cyclic to restore the potential, because the charger allows you to choose for example 5 cycles of charge/disharge/charge or viceversa discharge/charge/discharge and is confusing which one to choose thanks
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
There are many practical theories on storing NiMh batteries. I don't have any data to prove one is better or worse then the other.

I have a question for u good sir, I just got a NHX 6500mah 100c 6s lipo. And I went to check the voltage per cell. They were all at 3.83v but one cell was at 3.72 and I've tried balancing all of the cells but that one cell doesn't want to get balanced. Is it OK if I still use that 110$ pack for my outcast 6s exb??
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 9 месяцев назад
When you balance the pack all of the 3.83V cells would be discharged to 3.72V matching the cell with the lower voltage. I wouldn't recommend running the pack with a cell that is that far out. Especially if it frequently becomes that far out of balance after being balance corrected.
@lukerecore
@lukerecore 9 месяцев назад
Thank u sir, I charged it up to 4.2v and I discharged it and now all the cells are balanced.

Place it on your charger, when your charger detects it is fully charged, you know you have a topped off pack.

Ive got batteries over 2yrs old, was storage charged. Then lost in a house move/renovation. Found still safe packed but now won't charge. (3.70v to 3.78v) Is the battery or charger faulty or dispose of batteries. What is your advice please. Hope you can keep up your videos im finding them a great help. Thanks.

@@danaleks5810There can be also chosen some different type of battery for first few minutes of charging for shock it and recover. Some charger does not allow so low voltage on cell when balance wire connected and sometimes also without. I recover some batteries which was 2,2 and 2,6V undervolted. They work properly now. If i remember i chosen something like Pb or something totally different from li-po
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Mel, you need to find out why your charger is rejecting to charge the pack? What is the error message given?

@BikerDon2

You don't say if you Charge or Balance Charge for the voltage tests. Presumably you want to Charge them so each cell is treated the same. Your charger is showing BALANCE which will charge cells at different rates. You also say to balance them before retrying - is that using Balance Charge?
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Hi Don. Every charge should be a balance charge. The charger will charge all cells at the same rate and discharge the higher voltage cells. Even during this cycle where the charger is equalizing cells, you will be able to spot issues. If cells are significantly out in voltage, run a balance only.
@BikerDon2
@BikerDon2 Год назад
@@RCexplained Ah - my charger doesn't do a 'balance only' as opposed to a 'balance charge', that's what confused me. I must look into a charger that just does a balance to even up out of sync cells like yours must do.

I have tested all my batteries including the new ones which says 200C etc....every battery was in the range between 17 and 27 of real C. Its few month back when i seen your video about real C rating. So what is decision? Only Traxxas say truth about rating of batteries. They guaratee 25C, which can be true. But Gens Ace promises for example 120C, what is lie. Because batteries are almost equal when resistance is measured. Traxxas batteries are average quality but only one company is telling the truth.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
I received IR data from one viewer with Traxxas packs and the actual C rating was much lower than specification. What did you find with your Traxxas packs?
@martins2657
@martins2657 Год назад
@@RCexplained I had only 3S older battery in my Slash, with old TRX, not iD connector and it was aroud 20-22C when i measured as new approx 6 years ago. Yes it is lower, but every other brand was in the 17-27range, when they says 120, 200C etc. So Traxxas is much accurate. But i can not tell that their batteries are good. Just they not have so much C difference like an others. Than i seen your video and try to measure packs again after some time of usage. When i measured hard packs for example almost new Gens Ace bashing 5500mAh, it has only over 18C in real. So in average, it can be 10-30C in all RC batteries as new. Not 60, 120, 200C its lies.
@dirtrider88
@dirtrider88 Год назад
this is SOOO subjective. completely depends on what battery your talking about. for example at 4:55 if your using a 500mah pack this info is completely useless and misleading, hell same goes for a 2000mah pack. i guarantee these numbers are for a 5000mah pack or above. you provide zero qualifications when making your videos, whether its motors or whatnot. all the information you share if totaly dependant on what your talking about. when you talk about motors, which are obviously of a very specific type, you talk in absolutes like you are in this video when in reality most of what you say wont even apply to most applications. i CAN NOT take your channel seriously. you give solid advice but not when we dont know the specific circumstances or applications your referring to.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Appreciate your comment and question. Whether a pack is a 50mAh size, 500mAh size, 2200mAh or a 5000mAh size, this is irrelevant. The resulting calculation is unitless as it is a ratio or percentage. Not millohms. Typically, if a formula requires a domain or range where it is valid, I specify this as I don't always have data for a wide range of input.
