Lego should release an instruction for combining all buildings on their website. I’m sure that will help the sale of the sets, especially the pope-selling ones.
Hi holly, note: you can connect the platforms from the sides of dumbledores office behind the roof above the bathroom, the turret on dumbledores office can be switched sides for the silhouette and the torches left over from battle of hogwarts I put them in the same place on the insides though
What I did was place the stairs from Sirius’s Escape underneath Dumbledore’s Office and placed the Gargoyle Statue in front of them to create the secret passage to his office. I basically placed the sections from other sets that acted as hallways and random rooms as supports since I put the office on the second floor.
I do like your combination more, but it does look les like the Hogwarts castle compared to the official way. Personally I have changed all official sets and just came with my own mode. I think this is the beauty of this modular system - it allows you to use your imagination more open and freely that the old system.
I think they didn’t put it that way in the picture because the dark arts class sticks out a stud, and has to be in that spot instead of the bathroom if you want to pin the bottoms together by the library
I really really love that they went back to the green roofs because it just reminds me of the older sets. And it gives me nostalgia from when I was little
Thanks for putting this together and also comparing to the model images from the movie! I have all except the GWPs and haven’t picked up the BoH set yet, but I’m looking forward to combining them. My hope is the play out the scenes with my kids when we start reading the books
I think they planned this from the start. I mean, this can't just be a coincidence that they fit and match the actual hogwarts perfectly. (Also, second comment!)
I really don't think it has been planned at the beginning, but maybe from the 2nd year thanks to some purchasers' feedbacks. I hope the castle would have had a better looking as a whole if it has been planned from the start...
I really like the build you did more than the one from the book. Would we be able to see the recording of you building your layout? I know I would love to use yours to display mine!!
Hi, I finally finished my Hogwarts castle too! I started on july 23th and finished it today! I started with the Astronomy Tower and when I found out that you could combine it with other sets I did so. After the astronomy tower, I made the whomping willow set. But then I started with the newer sets. I got the chamber of secrets, then the polyjuice potion mistake, first flying lesson, fluffy encounter, hospital wing, dumbledore's office, Sirius's rescue, room of requirement, and finally, the battle of hogwarts that I just finished today. In 5 days, it's 2 years ago that I started.
i really am glad i started getting these. i only need two more sets, being dumbledores office and the battle of hogwarts, so i might as well finish the entire system. i don't know how long i'll be collecting lego, but i'd feel like i have a very complete system. i don't hate the green roof, but the grey was better. the exterior of the 2018-2020 sets were much better, but didn't make the true hogwarts silhouette, and this does. these have better and interiors. i get why some don't like this system, but i personally have a lot of fun just building the castle however i want.
I'm glad i watched this. I was thinking about connecting it the way the picture and LEGO recommended but i think based off the way it looks im just going to modify it and see if i can't come up with my own thing
I just finished collecting the old modular Hogwarts and have to admit this one is great too. I don't really feel up for the price tag on this one since I've already invested, but it is nice to see that the one set I own from this, Fluffy's Encounter, is fetching a nice price. Maybe I should sell it to let some other people complete this set. Really like the special Fluffy pieces though
For my Hogwarts i put the pieces that you use to click the hinge piece on the other side of the viaduct so it can bend a bit and connect it to the vidaduct enterance with the little central triangle technic hole piece from the battle of Hogwarts to connect it to the rest of Hogwarts, for gilderoys office to include it I just added the roof of the DADA classroom and used the fluffy encounter rood to top it off for it. I only had the extra fluffy encounter set and I tried to use all the pieces and roofs to give a nice Hogwarts look and not exclude many components
I know when they first released the modular line you did a video combining the 2018-2020 sets and the first wave of modular sets, it was AWESOME!. (with all gray roofs) Would you consider revisiting that idea? And maybe build a dream castle using any of the sets from 2018-2023? (but not including all the sets). I love all the 2018-2020 sets and would love to make the castle better by adding in modular pieces if it but i have no idea where to start. You've have such a great eye so i'd love to see what you come up with.
I actually worked hard and found a half decent way to combine everything. So legos build stops at the clock tower. But if you look at hogwarts there’s more to the right. Using essentially all of the original wave sets you can essentially make that entire right section. There’s very little unused
Awesome video! I think it is neat how they planned it be put together over the course of the years. Your silhouette version did look better then theirs but both versions don't really look play friendly though. As for next year, I honestly hope they either slow down a bit (So I can catch up, lol) or if they are going to redo it all again, make it more realistic/closer to the films but still have a nice play flow. If that makes sense. I loved the grey roof version. Like the mini Hogwarts but larger/minifig scale. That would be epic.
I’ve been trying to put all of mine together and the pictures in the instructions are confusing so I’ve been struggling a bit, but yours looks really good!
This is the sort of "back-side" of collecting Lego which I am always reminded of: Whenever Lego finish an awesome collection-series like this where the individual sets can be combined into one large set etc, they immediately announce an even bigger, more awesome collection series to replace it! If I had this, it would feel like such a waste because I would immediately want the new "most detailed version of Hogwarts yet" instead... Maybe its just my mindset and I shouldn't mind having the old versions laying around.. It just reminds me of the Darth Vader CCBS-figure which immediately got replaced by a new one with a removable helmet the moment I got the old one... so frustrating!
I actually really like this. I already have most of the sets for the recommended setup, so I may just buy the last few few and do that (since I don’t have the micro scale castle).
I just need two of the Battle of Hogwarts to create one of each set up. Now I just need to find some of the important characters from the books that aren’t included in these sets such as the Weasley Twins and Sybil Trelawney loose since I either don’t want to buy their sets due to how expensive they are or them being retired. So far I have the CMF Moaning Myrtle.
I plan on eventually setting up my Hogwarts in a similar fashion only without the promo and Flying Lesson sets and a second Battle for Hogwarts to create a bridge.
You said you’re not a fan of the modular system but it’s your favorite model at the end. So what is it lol. I personally prefer this minifig scale over the microfig scale castle
My favourite system is the 2018-2020, I prefer the microscale over this modular system and my favourite layout for the modulars is the one I made at the end. Hope this helps clears up the confusion!
great video I will b honest i like the Hogwarts castle system sets from 2018 to 2020 a bit more too mainly because grey is more the castle roof color and combining all 4 sets together i think looks even better. At first the picture of these sets looked cool but in person I can agree it does look awkward and the bridge section should be connected better buy regardless gret video Holly and hope you have fun in Chicago
It had a lot of potential and they did great with what they had, but they’ve done better and I think the fact you can draw that comparison is what hurts this system most
This is exactly what I have been wanting to do with my sets. I have everything here ) except the staircase which I didn't know about) and in many cases more than one of each; two flying lessons, 3 hospital wings, 6 0r 7 bathrooms and at least 3 fluffy sets (bought mostly on clearance to build extra classrooms with. i plan on turning my 'Hogwarts moments" sets and the new house rooms sets into modular rooms. I just needed a guide. Thanks. But I also have a bunch of the newer sets and the change from sand green back to grey for the roofs annoys me. I'm planning on Bricklink extra sand green stuff to make it all match.
They needed to make better screen accurate sets of the castle. They have the source material but chose to do their own version of it and it’s a real shame
accuracy isn’t everything, I think this is a great middle ground between screen accuracy and pure fun. I still believe the first 2001-2003 harry potter sets to be some of the best ever made just because they capture the distinct fun and whimsical nature of early harry potter, even if they have to be some of the least movie accurate sets produced. Though I can see why some people would prefer for screen accuracy over this.
Been waiting for this video to hear your opinion once you have tried building it. The photo makes it look better than video. I am only missing BoH so I will definitely get that to complete the setup. But I will be intrigued to see if the 2018 and this new system can be combined in an alternate build to make one big minifig scale hogwarts castle.
It went fast in the u.s I believe it was 2 and half days then it was gone But to me the staircase and the first flying lesson don't really fit into the system
I still think this system with the green roofs is vastly superior to the ugly squished grey roofed version of 2018. Having it displayed entirely makes it look even better. Far better than the 2018 looked with it needing to be always on a massive long line of buildings. That being said, like I destroyed my 2018 sets, I think I'll also dismantle these and put the pieces towards expanding the unfinished UCS micro-scale Hogwarts.
Yes but 2018 sets individually are much more accurate. 2021-2023 line has kinda inaccurate random buildings but it works much better when connected into one big layount. I personally like both connected togather as each of these systems has its own pros and cons.
Hey, are you going to be doing videos going more in depth with the original sets? I'm actually in the process of picking some up! They're some of the most nostalgic sets for me, and I would love to hear your thoughts on the individual sets.
I am! My plan is to eventually have a video for every single LEGO Harry Potter set. I'm hoping to get started with some of the originals later this year
Holly, are u gonna pick up the minature hogwarts? Honestly, I think the miniature coming out this year is the best one, lol. Looking back, I'm glad I saved my money, but this still looks decent for display. PS this vid I feel should have at least 80k views, but whatever 😅
the problem is that atm half of this sets are EOL or they were gwp's, which are insanly rare and expensive now. So if you want a hole hogwarts castle just buy the big one for 400 bucks
It's good to look at but I think they should've advertised more from the beginning that it would come together as a full castle. I still think the D2C set is more for me because I'm going to display it and not play with it. I think the new castle will be even better for me with the extra parts of the castle that are missing from the current D2C set
I have a feeling they might start doing USC versions of various sections of Hogwarts.. which combined will probably cost thousands. But I mean do harry potter lego fans have ANY money left to squeeze.
Lego should have put more effort into making this system work and look accurate You should make a video comparing this to the microscale Hogwarts Castle
yeah the overall price of these is higher, but unlike the microscale big Hogwarts castle, you can buy it in pieces, and that's much more acceptable for your wallet. Even now just buy 2 sets every month, and you get the whole thing by the end of the year. I bet people will build even better looking setups by assembling new modules from leftover pieces too. Anyway, my plan is to buy all these, and have the whole modular castle built in my room. And then buy the upcoming mini Hogwarts, and that I'll put in my living room, next to the Great Pyramid set.
Your layout is amazing, but try to make layout as close as possible to the original source (u can check it in Hogwarts Legacy). I mean interior section
The idea was cool, just wasn’t executed very well. I personally would much rather buy the micro scale hogwarts because it looks way more accurate and doesn’t cost $650. I just don’t like this set up. But, gotta give LEGO credit where credit is due, they had a good idea, but I feel like they could redo this idea with all the sets fitting together and it would be great the second time around.
