Hey Jenn, I'm a longtime viewer (since the Clothes Encounters days in 2010) and I wanted to share some feedback. Videos like this don't resonate as much with your audience because they feel too scripted and artificial. You are the reason we are all here - maybe bigger corporations don't realise that, but we want to hear YOUR genuine opinions. It could have been fun to see you visit different antique stores or record shops in LA and pick something unique for your loved ones rather than seeing Google reduce each person to a brand (wellness, fitness etc.). I also can't afford most of the things Google suggests buying because people tend to search for wishlist items out of their price ranges! That's the basic reason why Pinterest is so successful - it gives us a life to aspire towards even if we know inherently we cannot have it. Again I'm a longtime viewer and I love watching your content, but this video didn't really 'speak' to me for these reasons.
Exactly..and I don't think she would have gone on that list to buy Xmas gifts for everyone if it wasn't for this ad deal. Which just feels so ingenuine and just for the sake of an ad
Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. 💗
listen, she's a youtuber. i think we've all grown up on youtube consuming the same content but have different opinions about our fav creators... for sure viewers have always been entitled to different degrees but your comment reminds me of back when people would call a youtuber a "sellout" for doing ads or getting sponsors. and like, I understand your point but I think, as a long time subscriber and fellow long form content consumer, I think you should consider that no matter what, they don't only create content for our viewing pleasure... this is very much her job and honestly she does a damn good job at it, for over a decade, and the way she segways and created sponsored content over the years has always been seamless and never been pressured by her into us to consume something we don't need or have interest in already. because everything she sponsors honestly is pretty much always on brand with her content. I understand marketing can be jarring at times but this isn't the right attitude, telling her what she should do "instead" is kind of demanding and honestly confusing, because she always creates wholesome content imo. she's always been genuine so stop playing because in the end this is her hustle, and she sure puts her heart into it. She could very well have already turned into a high fashion influencer and become unrelatable and unlikeable or even become a family blogger but has always shown how conscious and consistent her human values are. she's simply performing a service for a client helping them explain to the consumers how to use a new algorithm, if you dont care, just scroll away or watch something else. But dont expect her to not have any sponsorships and still make enough money to provide for her family when this is her career.
Hi Jenn, I think the way you put your video title make ppl expect " a genuine video", and when a whole video appears as a 7-minute-long ad, they are kind of disappointed. I don't know if it possible but if you let ppt know this is a sponsored video by Google right from the title, ppl will be more likely to slow down expectation and accept it.
I watched this last year thinking how disappointing this content was and it was so not typical of Jenn. But now with all the speculation about her marriage going around I just imagine her to be going through a tough time and still needing to show up to work and pay the bills. And this is the result of that. I’m sure she’s aware of how this is so off beat from her usual videos. Hope you’re prior yourself Jenn x
No matter what other people are saying about this video, its important to remember that this is your job and sometimes content is going to be well scripted. Also the baking cookies thing is obviously in for a creative intro. Weird for people to judge art like that. Heh. Love you, Jenn! Hope you enjoy everything you're doing in your personal life! So proud of the success and progress you've made as an adult!
I love Jenn and all her content, but I agree something about this video felt off. Not the editing and production, that’s as good as always. For me, I especially didn’t like the whole baking montage. She never bakes and she made the cookies a whole moment in the video? It felt a bit fake IMO.

This video comes off kinda tone deaf and I’m so shocked, because I’ve always thought Jenn as a very genuine influencer. The US is experiencing extremely high inflation and a lot of families are still recovering financially from the pandemic. Usually, your sponsorships are more seamless to your style but this video sticks out like a sore thumb.
Good production ad campaign. But when she did the thrifted actually thoughtful gifts last year from the bookstore i thought those were much more meaningful. This is just shopping from a google sponsored pre-thought out algorithmic list. If I saw this as an ad before a RU-vid video id be like hell yeah Jenn. But as a main channel..you can’t convince me you’re favorite sneaker is a regular old pair of black Nikes
Hi Jenn! 😊 I’m going to have to agree with some of the comments on this video and say that it definitely felt too rushed and scripted, which in turn makes it seem a bit forced. No hate at all because I do love you and your content, but just thought I’d also chime in as a frequent watcher of yours and offer some constructive criticism. Much love 💕
She’s so rich already and yet she only posts sponsored stuff all the time 😢 Jenn I get you gotta make money$$$$$ but pleaseeee also balance your content for your long time followers…
Totally understand the need to do ads and you integrate them very well! With that being said, I felt like this added to the over-consumption material mindset where everything needs to be new, sponsored, and based on an algorithm. Would love to also see a more mindful and sustainable gift guide video because they are so much more meaningful and you are very creative so I know it would be wonderfully done!
This felt so disingenuous I couldn't finish the video. This should've been on the Google channel with you featured in their video. The gifts are so expensive and the fact you're holding a Google phone is so overkill because you have an iPhone?
wouldve been less like an ad if there were actually some thoughtful gifts in there instead of just a general catalogue of gifts from 1 app.. it’s true with the comments and i have to agree! it’s too scripted and doesn’t feel ‘jenn’ to us
Jenn I love you and i've always supported you but I can't tell you how tone deaf this video feels. Congrats on landing a sponsor ship with google, i'm sure you weighed the pros and cons of this video heavily. But you need to know how your viewers feel. Not only is this lacking genuine gifting ideas but its just feels like capitalist propaganda. On top of most items being unreasonably expensive and probably not at all what you're getting your family (or maybe not what you actually planned to get your family), you're posting this kind of holiday content when most people would probably want to listen to you speak from your heart on some very sensitive topics. I think a lot of the backlash you're seeing here is coming from viewers who like watching your content because its authentic and relatable. Even as you grow in fame and fortune, there are things are bind us all in deep humanity. I hope we can continue to see more of that.
I know youre trying here Jenn, but the line "having the same shoes as James makes me feel more connected to him" was a stretch compared to all your other relationship and authenticity videos.
Unfortunately I have to agree with the criticism on here, I was subscribed to you for the longest time based on your well-thought videos, amazing editing, and genuine, thoughtful story-telling (remember your "In My Feelings" video?). This holiday gift idea video felt so off-putting, it's just a 7 minute long ad and the scripted-ness of it makes me feel like I can't support you as a creator any longer. Most of your subscribers who have been here with you from the start know that this is not how your videos are and this is not how your real gift ideas go (based on videos from previous years). It might have been better to do some actual genuine gift-picking and add in some of these things to the video for the sponsorship rather than make us sit through 7 minutes of your scripted reactions to finding the "perfect gift" off of an algorithmic list. I'm sorry that this comes off harsh Jen but putting out this kind of video to your long-time supporters is also tone-deaf. I really hope this isn't how the videos on your channel are going to be like in the future.
Please stop and think about how much you are into consumerism and capitalism. Before getting defensive, just stop and think about how much you campaign for people to continue to purchase new things, and how many new things you constantly are buying. Please think about the impact this has on the world.
Jenn - as a long time viewer and fan, I’ve thought this for a long time, but it’s been the recent few years that the amount of sponsored content you do is overwhelming. Nothing seems genuine anymore..
Sponsored content is fine but this one... Looking at the comments, you could benefit in the long-term by being more selective with your sponsors. For a video about gift giving, this feels artificial and insincere. It would have been great to see you putting in thought to buy gifts for your loved ones, as most people will be doing. Scrolling one app full of expensive items isn't entertaining or thoughtful. Seems like you sometimes really miss the mark with your sponsored content by not retaining a sense of personality.
Jenn, I’m disappointed in you. You’ve spoken up about BLM, Asian Hate, and even admitted to not voting the year Trump was elected and feeling remorseful about it. But your silence about Palestine feels hurtful. I’ve been growing with your content since you were with Sara as ClothesEncounters. I understand that you’re a mom, and it’s important to be stable. However, I felt like this video felt tone deaf during this time because 1) this video did not feel natural in the slightest (did we even eat any of those large cookies? no) 2) I miss your content that wasn’t sponsored, and 3) you flaunt about reading The New Yorker and other news sources, and there’s radio silence from you..? You have such a powerful platform. I believe you can do and be better.
I’ve been a long time viewer and am unsubscribing after trying to stick it out for a while, but you have so much sponsored content and ads constantly to get people to keep consuming and purchasing unnecessary products.
let alone the weird tone and scriptedness of this video... partnering with google and pointing out the nike shoes when these are well know brands to boycott if you want to stop supporting an oppressor / genoc*de is so...
kinda feels like your content got more and more rigidly catering to sponsors ever since you’ve got your son (because they need money and everything, of course). And it just reminds me again and again to not have kids because although they’re cute, they require so much compromise and sacrifice. Hope your creator career can support your family and kids as well as possible and I hope you will doing all well. Goodbye ❤
Video is fabulous but completely not your style 😂 I still watched it because it's a high quality video but kinda shocked me because it's sooooo different than your other videos. I thought I was watching from another creator 😅
I gotta agree with the commenters here, this video is a flop. I love Jenn but this whole thing feels SO scripted. I vote Jenn does another video with a *real* gift guide hahah
I think for the average person, this is a really expensive list, I would hate to click "See Cart" by the end 😅January/February is some of the most depressing time of year and that's in part because of the pressure to buy buy buy things we cant afford in November/December and the credit card statements coming in to start the new year. De-emphasizing the focus from buying expensive things around this time of year (corporate giants' gain) and focusing more on spending quality time with our loved ones, especially since there are so many people who are losing their family, children, and loved ones in genocides like the ones in Palestine and Congo right now, would feel like a much more holiday friendly approach. After all, the holidays are about family and love not corporate gains. Anyway, just my two cents. Very well filmed, written, and edited video however! The talent behind actually making these videos really comes across. Much love!
What happened to book talk and what I eat in a day and family time vlogs. Just don’t add to many ads. You have a smart way to add ads. Usually all other RU-vidrs do it at the beginning and you can just skip but not with you Jenn and it’s not cool man
I've been a subscriber since around 2012 and you're one of the very few people i've constantly watched throughout the years. I've always been so proud to see you grow into the lovely woman you are now and being only one year older it felt like we had almost grown up together (one sided of course). However, seeing your silence on Gaza makes me so confused because I was sure you would speak out about the horrors that the Palestinian people are going through right now. As we are slowly preparing for the festive season in the comforts of our homes and surrounded by our loved ones, millions of people in Gaza are losing their lives, loved ones and/or being displaced from their homes. As a fellow mother it breaks my heart to see innocent children going through so much trauma and parents facing the heartbreak of losing their precious children. With the amount of direct footage we can get from social media (as opposed to biased main media) more and more people are realising the atrocities that are happening with our tax money and the backing of our government. I truly thought you would be one of the ones to speak up about this, knowing how vocal you were with past movements. I can't help but feel disappointed to see you not only post normal everyday content (which is understandable since it is your job) but not even bring up Palestine with the amount of influence you can have with your following.. I truly think you are a wonderful person and a good influence on women in our generation. Could you please consider researching into the history of Palestine if you haven't already? I know no one can force you to but it would be greatly appreciated if you could help spread the word so that more innocent lives aren't lost
Those giant cookies are really catching my eye lol First, I have to say I think you do a fabulous job of more commercial or produced content, I don’t remember if you have an editor but your ads really look professional and they are well shot and put together. Your videos are always creative and one can tell that you put effort to come up with ideas to make them entertaining About the comments, I watch a lot of videos for entertainment while I’m working so it’s not that serious for me because I just like having something playing in my ears to distract me a bit. However, the video isn’t really a holiday gift guide that is helpful unless people download that app/use that website so I can see what people are commenting But it would be nice to have a second video with gift suggestions just out of Jenn’s own mind. Or maybe a video near Christmas showing some of the gifts she got for her family and friends, for Lennon etc.
When it came BLM and Asian Hate, you made your content, you did your research and you spoke to your subscribers on how they can help and raise awareness (and rightfully so) - so will you be saying anything about the various genocides happening around the world in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Armenia?
No offense but honestly a lot of Asian people don’t understand what’s going on with the current situation. Like you wouldn’t expect a RU-vidr from Europe speaks passionately about Asian hate right?
@@lz4801 The onus is on them to know what is happening, it’s not good enough to say, “oh we had no idea this was happening”, when there has been global outrage on these genocides, and on the ground journalists, doctors, and indigenous people are documenting hourly the horrors they face. Jenn is from the US and the genocide has been the main topic of American news and pop culture for weeks. And yes, I would expect everyone and anyone with or without a platform to speak out about the injustices that are happening in the world. A lot of european RU-vidrs spoke up about Asian hate, including Asian European RU-vidrs. Do you think all European RU-vidrs are just white Europeans?
@@lz4801 this is a weird statement to make when even my elderly relatives in korea know of the g3n0cide happening right now, and they're really only ever tuned into domestic news.
Cool vid of gift ideas, eyeing those Nikes, on a side note, I hate the new format of the number of views changing, it’s distracting from watching vids 😖
tbh i think its awesome that youve gotten to a point in ur career as a social media influencer that you can do these types of sponsored ads. also love that you keep things transparent with ur audience jenn, so ive got nothing but praise for u. and listen yall, she doesnt do these type of vids often so just back off
Damn ppl in the comments need to relax, this vid is not that serious. She’s trying something new and fun while also trying to be helpful. It’s one video and it’s truly not that deep. Also for those saying she has to speak out about Palestine and Israel…huh???!? People have been doxxed, subjugated to death threats, and lost parts of their livelihood by talking about the conflict (aka supporting Palestine). Like get real, why would she want to put herself and her family through that?
Total advertisement. She is finally dressing her age in this video. She usually dresses like a 14 year old and not like a 35 year old mother. I don’t know how she had her own fashion line she usually wears the most ill fitting disproportionate to her body clothing, let go of the high waisted jeans! This suits you.
Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. There’s literally a million different wars going on. Are you speaking for all of them loudly? Where were you for BLM? How about trans rights? Or are you only speaking for things that impact you directly. Maybe just let people speak out on what they feel comfortable with.
@@itsgivingbougie Speaking out, on what you’re only “comfortable” with is not the point. We are witnessing a genocide happen, I think it deserves some acknowledgment.
@@Thuqqnasty1232 I agree. So where are you on all of the other genocides? Did you speak up on them or only the one that impacts you? I’m just asking you to reflect instead of going on random people’s pages and harassing them to speak up for your cause while ignoring all of the other atrocities currently happening. It’s embarrassing behavior.
I love watching your videos Jenn! I never comment but today I wanted to let you know you are my only RU-vidr that I watch religiously! lol ❤️ Take care and I love you so much.🥰❤️🔥
