For vermouth, get it in the smallest bottle available. It's wine based and can oxidize if you aren't careful. Refrigerate it after opening and it'll be good for a month.
I've had the same bottle of dry vermouth for 4 months on refrigerated and there isn't a notable difference. Maybe it occurred slowly so I never noticed, but it's not bad
@@Mpeezy69 lmao better that than what we teenagers do here in America. FENTANYL AND METH, I only fw meth but fent is a cut (not a lace a cut, no death) so I’m cool with a lil if it ain’t too strong to make a .1-.5🤨 eh don’t do it, rn I’m quitting after a lil binge over some days and what not this month, it sucks ass. Tbh just cuz this lil starving feelin in my belly I don’t fw ice no more. I’ve been doing this too I’m just tired of it after the 25th time or so
@@WhatEverIwant36 you need treatment bud. I was on the same stuff back in my hayday, I got 2 years clean now. Get your shit together you too young for that. I hope you don’t say shit like this on social media where ppl do know who you are
@@jbrandona119 Did you know any male human, according the the medical community in recent times, found out that they are able to become female and entirely change sexes by getting their 'dong' cut off, flipped inside out, and stuffed back in?
Honestly with the liquers you can often DIY some of them , by converting berries/fruit (eg blackcurrant) into a 1:1 syrup with sugar and then add vodka, wine and water to get to 30-40 ish abv and boom you have " creme de mure" (blackberry liquer), saves you a ton of money.
Had a guy come to a liquor store I worked at years ago, said he wanted to stock a home bar for his friends. A couple of us helped him as best we could, little bit of everything, and he was making the selections. All in all it was about $3,900 out the door. The very next weekend he was back, said that what he got was "okay" but he didn't have the stuff to make what everyone wanted. So we helped him out, and he ended up spending another $3,000. Then came back in because he forgot about beer, and bought $4,000 worth of beer. Kegs, bottles, cans, every brand and type you can imagine. Always seemed like a happy guy, good customer, was happy we helped. Had the news on at work like two weeks later, guy died in a car wreck.
I actually really appreciate this advice. I've been slowly accumulating bottles that I like (currently have some gin, rum, vodka, tequila, and bourbon) and finally set up a legit bar cart a few weeks ago. Besides bitters, grenadine, simple syrup, and triple sec, I wonder what else would be good to have on hand (I'm a huge fan of tropical/tiki drinks but also love me an old fashioned)
Not a bartender but for tropical (fruity) drinks experiment with the flavored liqueurs he said not to rush out and get all at once, or get the rum and hit up the juice asial at the grocery store.
If you like tiki drinks then expanding your rum choices is a good start. Lots of different spiced, aged and overproofed rums that can be utilized in all sorts of tiki drinks. Tropical flavours like passion fruit or lychee liquers, pineapple juice, mango juice and other sweet fruity juices, liquers and syrups will help you make a tiki drink that is both boozy and delicious. Could also grab yourself some brandy or cognac for brandy-based cocktails.
@@jgregg7100if you're drinking occasionally/socially, fancy/expensive bottles are good. If you drink for a cheap buzz... Cheap bottles are the way to go. 😂
Triple sec is very useful. Sweet vermouth can also be used for negronis, though you also need Campari, but the negroni is a really hard-hitting cocktail that looks classy asf and is a personal favourite of my mom 😂
Bro the rum recs missing every time on this channel 😭 Don Q, Cruzan, flor de Cana 4 yr all super cheap and way better hell even Bacardi superior is better than captain silver
For me, the most important of the more special bottles for a home bar would definitely be triple sec and sweet vermouth. They’re both used in so many great drinks. After that I’d say Campari comes next if you’re into whiskey cocktails. That’s covered so many great cocktails for me
This is good for a basic bar, but don’t forget to save some money for the grocery store for sugar (to make simple syrup), lemons, limes, juices, etc. Another strategy I’ve found is to buy 1-2 spirits and then buy the liqueurs needed to make your favorite drinks. If you love Manhattans but not margaritas, then buy a bottle of vermouth before a bottle of tequila. You’ll go through more of what you like instead of having a basic bottle of something you don’t drink.
As someone who has been having a cheap home bar for the past 3 years these are excellent choices. For the triple sec I went crazy and got Pierre Ferrand’s dry curaçao because it’s a little dryer than triple sec and it has lasted me a long time and I make a lot of sidecars and margaritas
@@NeoNeonGreen Honestly, if you're just starting your homebar then a cheap brand like Captain Mos isn't a bad start. That being said, I prefer Bacardi or Lamb's for cheap shitty rum.
I know it's supposed to be a joke, but, the entitlement, and trashing the vodka... I am so sorry that I don't make enough to buy anything else... Yeah...
well, in cocktails vodka is used much less if you think so. Main cocktail drinks are actually gin, rum and tequila. Vodka is more for cocktails like screwdriver or blue lagoon, but those are rarely presented anywhere outside of students party.
@@devinwoodson1365 in country where I live vodka is not cheaper than other hard liquor (only local hard liquor is cheaper), but in my home country it is, because we produce only vodka, so everything else is imported. Still whisky is kinda the most expensive basic alcohol, excluding liquors.
Vodka is actually a good addition for some easy cocktails. Cosmos (make it with Cointreau if you want to be a purist), Moscow Mule, White Russian (adds Kahlua to your bar), Vodka martinis (kinda tough drink for beginners though). There's also a nice Aperol drink whose name I'm forgetting.
the eyeroll is classic. i am always polite when the liquor store people ask to help me. i know they are being nice and also not much fun standing alone in a store all day with no one to talk to.
For my go to bar. I get a bottle of white rum. A bottle of Irish whiskey. And a bottle of gin. I keep blue caracou pineapple juice and bitters. The amount of stuff u can make with just those is crazy
I learned the hard way about liqueur. I would randomly but one, then find a recipe for a drink. Then realize I got to goo get 3 other things I didn't have. Recipe first before a trip to the liquor store.
That's backwards. If something is not good, i drink it faster to get rid of it. You can give it away. You can even use it for cooking and cleaning. If something is really good, i drink it very rarely so it doesnt run out too fast. My best bottles sit around for years before they are even opened.
My favourite way to stock up the home bar: beer and more beer, every kind of beer, just beer and maybe some more beer... i've had one too many liquor parties 😂
I don't even drink and I find these funny. You've got that look of "I know what I'm doing, I know what I'm selling, Get out of here with your weak sauce"
I was in Vegas last week with a friend and showed up to it’s a bottle of gray goose. I asked her about mixers and she said cranberry juice. 😂 it’s her preference so I bought it but I felt like a sinner making it. Lol
I just want it to be said, they actually attempted to make this not just some generic “here’s what you need to start a bar” video, even tho that’s what it was the attempt at masking it gives the video a sense of self, also thanks for helping me stock my at home bar correctly
A “vodka cran” is actually dates back to 1945 and was known as the red devil until 1960 when Cape Codder was used. It’s not a pre prohibition cocktail but it is pretty classic
For vodka always buy the Smirnoff 100 it’s strong neutral and amazing it can start your car I’m sure but like it’s good it’s not as scary as it sounds and it’s usually not too expensive… it’s the only vodka I fw and I’ve worked at too many bars lol
My recommendations for the best work horse alcohol. Gin - Beefeater Rum - smith and cross for dark, denizen for light Tequila - cimarron rye - Rittenhouse Bitters - angostura Also, get lemon and lime juice, and make simple syrup, you'll be able to create so many drinks.
I prefer videos like this over the ones just making the "customer" seem stupid for their questions. Even if some are dumb there is good learning points with almost every question asked
All you need is citrus and simple syrup to make something for every base liquor. (Whiskey) Whiskey sour- (Rum) Daiquiri- (Tequila) Margarita- (Vodka) Lemon drop- (Gin + soda) Tom Collins- (Brandy) Brandy sour- You can shake an egg white with some of these for a more complex interpretation.
For tequila, I'd actually replace it with an "ojo de tigre" mezcal. It's more flavorful without that grass taste. And it's great as a mixer AND shooter!
A good way to use ingreidents in small batches is infusing vodkas, you can rapid infuse vodka with fruits and herbs by using a isi whipper and nitrous chargers, get your ratios and ingreidents in the whipper, charge it with two nitrous chargers, let it hang out for about 10 or 15 minutes, then invert a glass over the nozzle and de gas the whipper with the nozzle pointing to the sky, if you invert the whipper youll just spray out your liquer
Tequila, white rum, gin, vodka, whiskey and tripel sec are they essential basics of you ask me. Plus, all those (except the whiskey) are all needed for a classic Long Island Ice Tea.
Just buy gin. Its basically vodka infused with botanicals, like juniper berries. It makes great mixed drinks. Sparkling water-any flavor. Lemonade, tonic. All fantastic with gin.
Thanks it actually help, I want to make a home bar (mostly or other people then me because I don’t like alcohol and it’s just beautiful to show off and to make cocktails to people if I want some) and it really help for someone that don’t know shit about all this.
Finally, one of these shorts feels like a personal attack on me I like vodka cranberry with a splash of lime, an absolute go-to ahaha make it sweet and sour to the point you can hardly taste the vodka
