*I love this **Newest.Technology** Echo Dot. I had one of the first Dots out. This 3rd generation is much better. I listen to my Echo Dot every single night. I have Alexa play light rain sleep sounds. Love it!*
Waiting for this ❤️! Siri Still doesn’t speak or understand my language, but i use an og HomePod daily with scenes settled in Italian. Very happy with sound quality and i was waiting for the mini. Now i’m more oriented in buying another og HomePod! Will miss thread implementation though 🤨!
@@albertolupatin9842 Ciao Alberto.
Great video, thanks again. I’ve been watching your videos more and more. Definitely helping with knowing what products to buy and having things work better together.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ru-vid.comUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Handoff was my favorite feature you demonstrated. I immediately fired up Metallica “One” and ran around the house handing it off to my HPMinis. Drove my wife nuts!
You got 4‼️ I can't even get 1 🤨 Why is that when Apple launch something they release like 50 and, if u miss out, u have to wait half a year to be able to order the product 🤯
Well done! Killing it! I still think you should have re-created the reaction video from the HomePod mini announcement. I think we all would love seeing that dance of joy! :)
I really see the two iterations of HomePod as two different products. The original is a great audio product with some smart home features; whereas the Mini is a smart home product with really decent sound.
Oh wow. The thread technology really makes a difference. Didn’t expect it to feel that instantaneous. I’ll be getting a HomePod mini, this video settled it.
Great review but I have 1 question.. You can’t use the mini’s as the default sound output? So does that mean whenever I want to watch tv using Apple TV I’ll have to connect them to the tv?
I hate to have payed almost double the MSRP for a mini cuz it's just not available here. Anyway, i really need one bad and will have to wait for prices to calm down on ebay for the other 2
Hand-off looks great. Doesn’t’t work for me. The HomePod mini just keeps on playing something it wants to play, with no input from me whatsoever. Pathetic. I have to fight with the thing all the time. Garbage. It’s the first time I’ve been truly disappointed with Apple. Very, very, very disappointed. That’s just one example.
Man, you inspire me! Your videos have gotten so good! The lighting, sound, composition, content relevance, and the whole cinematography is superb! Great work, Shane! I need to order a couple of mini's and get rid of my mixed Alexa and HomeKit ecosystem.
Wow thanks for that! I appreciate the support. Always trying to improve. I see so many ways I still need to get better lol. I was in the same boat once upon a time with Alexa and HomeKit. I’ve since retired all Alexa stuff and never looked back!
Shane if only everyone were as thorough as you are the world would be an organised beautiful place. Thank you for the info, youve made a subscriber out of me, largely because of the above as well as the content!!
Anyone else have the issue where personal requests get randomly turned off for users that are not the primary owner of the home? Mine always get turned off for some reason and I have to turn it back on, it is very annoying.
Finally you're the first to mention that this homepod mini is a good step as a homekit hub. Thanks for the video. Think this is hands down the beste review of homepod mini
Hello Shane, loved your videos. What if I've 2 or more HomeKit Hubs and if one of them breakdown and need to be replaced. Will I lose all the Automations and need to re-create all of them? Basically I would like to know if having 2 or more HomeKit Hubs will serve as backup for all HomeKit automations and device pairing.
Shane…can we not use HomePod Mini’s to communicate to other rooms in the house as if we were on the phone with the other person. All I can do is intercom where I send them a voice message and have to wait for it to get delivered then they respond back in the same manner. Why can’t these HomePods be used just like a phone where it is uninterrupted direct communication over the WiFI? Am I missing something?
Exactly, 2nd that... I was actually wondering about the support for Mac as trying to make it a default for MBA, exactly the ultimate review we are looking for
I am so glad to see that your family has been too much lately with the stress and anxiety and stress lol I hope you have had such an awful nightmare and I feel sick and tired of it all day and I’m tired of being depressed and tired constantly waking myself up and tired constantly waking myself lol and I’m constantly tired lol and I can’t believe that I love myself laughing lol and I’m not saying that I love him so sad and sad I just can’t believe it myself I just think that is what I mean I don’t think I can have it myself I don’t think I can have it myself I just don’t need it to do that anymore I love it myself I just need a break and I’m so sad and sad I can’t do anything so sad lol I just got home and I’m so scared I can’t believe that I can’t do anything so I’m not going back lol I just need to put the new bed bath bath and beyond to sleep lol lol I love you too much lol lol I love you too lol lol
Since Siri on the iPad doesn't hear well, I was hoping I could use the Siri on a HomePod Mini instead. Can the HomePods control what happens on your iPad screen?
I have 5 and will probably get a few more for one simple reason. It will turn on or off the lights in the room it’s in and that room only. No need to remember specific names of devices. Lastly the thread support is a underrated feature.
Hi great video, ordered 4 myself with the kids getting one each for the bedroom. Question: if it can identify upto 6 voices how do you set this up? The minis will all be on my Apple id and use family sharing. How does the mini differentiate the voices from the family or is their a menu where you set this up?
In the “home” settings of the Home app, you should be able to toggle on “recognize my voice” as well as personal requests. I believe this needs to be done on each users’ device, but then should work.
Hey great video! Just a bit of constructive criticism: maybe try have your main camera and overhead camera have the same frame rate, and the same/similar colour grading. Just to keep things consistent and fluid 😊
It was the same frame rate but I can improve with color and lighting. Haven’t done many two-camera shoots before...it’s always a work in progress. Thanks for the feedback!
Had the same issue. I was about to return it until I reset it. Unplug it. Wait 10 seconds . Plug back in wait 5 seconds before Hard pressing center of HomePod & the light will start spinning then turn red. Keep pressing until Siri says it’s about to reset.
Love it. Great review, I’ll be picking a few of these up. Would love to see your review of 2 minis as stereo for a bedroom TV sound. That’s one of my use cases. Also, where’s that song listed at?
Thanks for watching! I think that would be a good use case. You might miss out on big bass that you’d get from a more serious speaker system, but most of us probably don’t have that in the bedroom anyways. Should definitely sound better than a tv’s built-in speakers. I get all music for my videos from here: geni.us/EnvatoElement
Hey Shane, the today’s update feature is available now. You just need to go into the settings of the HomePod mini and go into personal requests and make sure require authentication at the bottom of the screen is set to never.
Oct. 22, 2022 - I do plan on getting one that match my Apple HomePod in Blue. I just recently learned about these, now Im wanting one for my Office. Can hardly wait.
This guys’ content is really good and easy to understand. Plus, I dunno why but he sounds like a brutha. I’m almost sure he has Black friends. I’m subscribing 😂
The stereo pair seems to have the same volume as the OG but it lacks on the bass department which is expected. But a stereo pair still costs less than an OG.
Anyone else get a failed connection error 301003? Got Keychain on,2 point verification, homekit and music app all installed. Tried several resets, my wifi is private tried hot spotting off another phone-,tried switching between 2Ghz and 5Ghz on my router really want to like this mini but turning out to nightmare
Sorry to hear that Charlie. Have you done a hard reset of the HomePod mini, resetting it to factory settings (where it turns red)? Also maybe restart your phone, turn off then on wifi and bluetooth if you haven't already. Hope you can find something that works.
Hello Shane. I have some questions. I want to buy HomePod mini as a HomeKit base and a main speaker for my MacBook Pro 13". Can I use HomePod mini as a main speaker for my MacBook? On some pages I read there is an delay in playing music during time you have it as a main speaker.
Sad Apple has discontinued the original HomePod now :( I had to rush out and get a second one before they're all gone because original HomePod has one big feature mini doesn't have which is Dolby Atmos for AppleTV
Yea, I was thinking about getting another original HomePod to try out the Theater mode too, but I may just wait to see what else they come up with... hopefully a new version one day that can do the same thing (and more).
I just got the HomePod Mini and when music is playing there is a white light, but it’s small and doesn’t fill the area or pulse like yours does. I’ve tried restarting it and it still does this. Do I have a defective light?
Do you or anyone else know how to force Homekit to use a certain Hub by default? I have 2 Apple TV's and I just got a HomePod mini. I want to use the HomePod mini as the default hub to take advantage of Thread but Homekit insists on using one of the Apple TV's as the hub. I even unplugged the Apple TV and it switched over to using the HomePod but as soon as I plugged the Apple TV back in it switched back.
Hi Shane, great channel you have! just Subscribed will the HomePod Mini work with your HomeKit Alarm setup in your previous Video? I have ordered a HomePod mini here in Germany, have to wait until Middle Jan 2021. :-(
Great video review of the HomePod Mini Shane! And thank you for bringing the ‘join’ button on RU-vid - which apparently is missing from the iPhone and iPad RU-vid apps. Have to go to the website for that one. You solved a big mystery for me there. Didn’t even know it was missing before.
Can you help me with my HomePod mini? I set it up and it works great but Siri says sorry I didn’t hear back from your devices when I ask her to turn on or off lights besides the lights in my living Room where the HomePod mini is and if she does turn on or off lights anywhere else it’s 15-30 seconds later and she still says sorry I didn’t hear back from your devices.
I liked your review but Minis are damn ugly. I don't get Apple lately... their original HomePod looked like a roll of toilet paper and now this Mini is fugly as hell.
I have a serious audio delay with the mini when I use FaceTime and zoom type applications? Could it be due to Airplay? My suggestions? I bought the mini specially for my office and trying to avoid have two speakers on my desk.
good review. I have seen an odd issue maybe you can let me know if you are seeing it as well. I can tell the mini to open HBOMax on my AppleTv and it works fine. If my kids or wife tries it Siri responded that the app does not allow it or some other error. I have checked their phones and they all seem to be set up with Siri person responses and Home Kit enabled. Maybe you could test this for a future video.
Anyone been able to get them to work via Airplay somewhere without Wifi? I can't and not for lack of trying and many hard resets. Bought them to use at my office and I just can't :(
Is thread only about speed or is there something more to it? Because I use Phillips Hue in my home and it is extremely fast, the lights turn on and off at the same speed as the thread ones in this demo, they’ve always been extremely fast so I’m not sure what’s the hype here?
Picked up my HomePod a few days ago before a lot of others in Australia 👍 last I see is last year to get it from Apple direct 😩 but I love it and have added more HomeKit devices in the last couple days and loving it!
Do you know if we can use HomePod Mini hand off on Zoom or other conference apps? It would be cool to be able to do conference calls via online collaboration meetings and use a speaker for all in the room to hear.
How in the hell did you get the bulb? I have not been able to get one. Sold out on their website and I’m not able to get on Apple site it says delivery not available.
I know this is an old video but I have a question. I have a new Apple TV 4K and a TV with Arc. To do the pass through audio does the Apple TV need to be plugged into the HMDMI Arc slot or any of them? Is it just if the TV supports it? So any device can plug into the ARC? That’s where I’m confused. Love your vids!
Hey thanks for watching! Yes, you need to connect the Apple TV to your HDMI Arc port. Here is my video on this topic in case you missed it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BbQIil4wJ8o.html
Great video! I received my Homepod mini a couple of days ago and I love it for rmy smarthome devices. One area that I am disappointed in is the phone calls. I can make a phone call from the mini but the listener says it receivednds like I am in a tunnel. I do have a problem in that I cannot make a phoen call directly through the iPhone. It has to be routed through a secondary homehub (an iPad mini) to connect with the iPhone for the call. I have called Apple Support a couple of time sand they said they really haven’t been trained in that area yet. I would love to use this to work well. I have the mini on my desk and it would be great to use it for telephone calls. The audio is great from the other side. I aminterested in how it work for others.
I like the Aqara platform. Their switches work great and you can combine two switches into one with their double rocker switch. System uses zig bee too so doesn’t clog up your WiFi.
Can the mini control multi-room audio to apple TVs (via Airplay 2, presumably)? If I start with one mini, can I tell it to play something in the rooms where I have apple TVs set up (or an Airport Express hooked up to a soundbar?)? That's really what I'm looking for... to be able to control audio all over the house via Siri. I currently use Spotify and airplay 2 on my iPhone to do this, but would consider switching to Apple Music if it functioned seamlessly with the Homepod mini.
Yes, you can do this. If you have an Apple TV in a room (living room as an example) and it's the only airplay 2 device there, just say "move this to the living room" or "play everywhere" and it will play on the Apple TV in the living room.
Well, it's still a great speaker...it sounds great. And I'm sure Apple will still continue to roll out support and updates for it for quite a while, but that will eventually come to an end. It might be worth it if you just really want a speak with superior audio quality and Siri voice assistant built in. But if it was me, I'd probably just get a HomePod mini, then see if they release a new HomePod in the next year to fill that void, and then move the mini to a bedroom or something. The only other reason to get the original HomePod I think right now is if you want to have two to use as a stereo pair in theater mode with dolby atmos for your tv/theater setup. Just my opinion.
Extra note regarding Thread: if you have eero as your Wi-Fi equipment, there’s now an option for them to carry Thread traffic, it’s off by default though. Widens up the scope for success with Thread devices.
FWIW, there are a couple of workarounds for the issue of not being able to send audio output from a Mac to a stereo pair of HomePods (OG or mini). First of all, (oddly enough) you CAN send audio from the Music app and from the Apple TV app on your Mac to a stereo pair of HomePods--simply select a song or video to play and click on the AirPlay icon. However, this does NOT work for a RU-vid video, even if playing in Safari, nor does it work for games in Apple Arcade. If you want to send system-wide audio out to a stereo pair of HomePods, there's a more complex workaround on MacRumors ( www.macrumors.com/2020/11/18/mac-system-audio-stereo-paired-homepods/ ) but it only works with AirPlay 1, so is subject to lag. I had to learn about the former by calling AppleCare and the latter by stumbling across a link on iMore.com to the MacRumors article--giving credit where credit is due. Hope you find these at least somewhat useful. I already sent feedback to Apple about the issue. It wouldn't hurt for others who are unhappy about the situation to do so as well. (hint, hint!)
