I bought the jacket in your video and the the only issue I had is the arm length. Luckily, I knew a great tailor and was able to get that fixed. If they were to improve the jacket, I’d recommend they put lining in the pockets as well. On a side note, I also agree with you about unlined waxed canvas jackets. They feel sticky and wet, which is kind of uncomfortable.
Picked up the Flint and Tinder Bighorn a few weeks ago. My first waxed canvas jacket. At first I wasn’t sure about the shirt tail style, but it’s growing on me. Wearing it out right now. Love it.
I’ve had my waxed trucker wool lined for 2 or 3 years now, absolutely love it. I layer it when I’m out in the desert camping and it keeps me warm in 35degree weather with a sweatshirt underneath. It’s tough as nails too and gets lots of compliments. Love huckberry and the flint and tinder stuff
Love this jacket, being 5'10" 175 lbs, I was recommended to go with large, but the arms were way too long, so I had to exchange for a medium and now it fits perfectly, great fall and spring jacket. Also, I have the Iron & Resin Cruiser jacket, love that one too. It's heavier and flannel lined so great for colder weather and unlike the Flint and Tinder, it has bi-swing back so works great as a work coat.
I have the Iron & Resin Scout jacket recommended in the video and love it! It’s not made in the US, but the canvas is thicker, it has a corduroy collar which is softer to the skin, the pockets are lined (which is a huge improvement) and the lining is 100% cotton plus it has a zipper. Absolutely prefer it over the T&F due to those features.
"Their closest analog is probably the tin cloth short LINED cruiser jacket" "but the body is unlined" shows image of FIlson jacket that is clearly lined and mentions it in the name. 🤣
I picked up the Thursday waxed jacket as soon as I was notified it dropped. I absolutely love it! The fit is perfect on me and it looks amazing. I’m very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend.
I just ordered the wool one! As someone from New Jersey I couldn’t believe that not only is it American made but it’s made in my home state, which is basically unheard of! Pretty excited to get it.
@@Stridewise do you have a review of the Thursday jacket coming? I'm curious to see more comparisons of the Thursday vs the Flint and Tinder. I like the more neutral liner in the Thursday.
I've had this for a while, very functional jacket, super easy to re-wax since it isn't bulky, and with a scarf and wool sweater I've done 0 degree (F) days in the snow and been dry and very comfortable. I got it as a gift and was worried it would just be a fashion thing (full respect to menswear kings out there I also like to look good but I'm a function first guy) but it's actually just a really solid, durable weatherproof jacket that happens to make you look great. I like it enough to actually go out and comment about it, if that goes to show how satisfied I am with it.
You’re probably the only one with a review (even if it’s small) off the rancher jacket. I think it’s slept on. Thanks for the sizing tip. That’s all I was looking for :)
god i'm SO glad somebody was looking for that information and found it, i feel so useful! looks like they aren't doing the black color anymore but that jacket is still really really cool and toasty warm
@@Stridewise totally fine because I’m getting the classic field tan! It’s starting to get to winter here in Wisconsin and if I like this jacket, I’ll probably get the flannel lined one for fall next year per your recommendation. They both look get!
Don’t have axess to Flint and tinder in Sweden but I got a Freenote cloth waxed lined riders jacket that is my everyday jacket and could not be more happy with it. Cheers and thanks for another great vid 🙏🇸🇪
About 4 years ago when American Eagle still made descent stuff, they were selling a dark beige trucker style jacket that is very lightly waxed. Chest pocket on the left has no flap and has rivets on both sides of the packet seam end's. It fit's the bill, perfectly! I paid around $25 for it🤣
I read that the wardrobe department on "The Last of Us" de-waxed the jacket for use in the show. For me, these are spring/ autumn jackets. The lack of breathability makes you sweat if you exert yourself even a little ( eg running up subway steps ). I bought a Barbour waxed jacket that has a nylon lining and it's basically unwearable. But it would probably cost too much to get the lining swapped out for brushed cotton or wool.
Duluth stopped making theirs, but it was $78 end of last year, with cotton lining "Men's AKHG Claimstake Waxed Trucker Jacket" I love mine. wish they brought it back in more colors
How would you clean the collar and cuffs of a waxed jacket? I can live with the body and sleeves looking “lived in” but inside collar can look really gross especially when usually worn over a tshirt or otherwise un-collared shirt. That’s about the only thing that’s kept me from getting the waxed trucker.
I like the Western one the best. I just ordered a Schaefer Outfitters High Plains Drifter taffeta lined one in their Rangewax canvas, they also have some very well priced and high quality waxed jackets in a few different weights and models, including a really nice unlined short brush jacket and a few longer onces with a drawstring waist and some nice Western piping trim, very cool look and very functional as well, being cut for maximum movement, which is often sacrificed in the slimmer cut . I was torn between getting a used (not presently produced except in a collaboration branded version) Filson Mile Marker and the Drifter but the Western styling of the Schaefer won me over. If you can afford more and want a great blanket lined trucker, Freenote Cloth makes the coolest one around, by far - I've worn the heck out of mine over the last two years, and can highly recommend it. Great soft lining, perfect slim cut (though not great for layering more than one layer), and super tough 10oz. Martexin waxed canvas. Just thought I'd mention a few options that get less attention than the usual suspects.
"it's all natural!" - meanwhile most of the waxed jackets are waxed using paraffin or paraffin/beeswax mixture. it's still more natural than goratex thou.
I actually got it second hand! I tried it new and it was to bulky and long in the sleeves, but used it's all nice and compressed, very happy (though the IH B2 fits better) instagram.com/p/Cp0tmwmukGI/
Great video Nick. I picked up the original jacket just about a year ago and LOVE it. Totally my go to jacket. I am in the Midwest, and it's perfect to wear alone for the fall/spring season and great when layering with a mid to heavy hoodie on colder days. Compliment beast as well.
Trucker jackets never seem to fit my torso well, I have since found myself exclusively using chore coats since trying out the Taylor stitch Ojai you reviewed. Cannot recommend enough the Bradley Mountain Edison, and the Tellason Coverall. I picked both up on black Friday and I get so many compliments.
Excellent video as always. Flint and Tinder waxed jackets have become an obsession for me. Embarrassed to admit it, but I own three - flannel, wool, and rancher. It takes all of my willpower to not buy number four.
Gentlemen, can we discuss how we can clean the lining of leather jack and wax canvas? The lining is going to be right next to the body and your decade old armpit sweat is definitely there. Does anyone have experience? I'm going to try cleaning the lining of a leather jacket i thrifted by bathing it in the tub with shampoo/ detergent for delicats, then moisturizing after it dries. Wish me luck!
I have an old Cabellas waxed jacket that is my favorite and also warmest thing I own. Longer than a trucker jacket with the bottom 10 inches or so lined with flannel and the rest lined with sherpa/faux shearling. Also my cats favorite, any time I am not wearing it she'll find it and make a bed out of it.
so funny this video came out 7h ago. ive seen like every video on this jacket and bought one yesterday. not because of tlou but because like i couldn't get my mind off of having a wax canvas jacket. i live in a van and im constantly crawling under my van and shit. perfect perfect everyday armor.
I have many waxed (tin cloth) coats, jackets, pants and chaps. Some as old as thirty years. I have actually used mine for hunting and working outdoors. I have to be honest, it kind of strikes me as funny that you consider them fashionable. I guess I'm just old. Good review as always although I think that for real work outdoors anything under 14 oz. is a little light. But for Spring and Summer in Brooklyn 14 oz. would be too heavy by far. It looks very well made and being made here is always a huge plus to me. I really enjoy your channel and reviews. Keep up the good work.
Excellent review as always! I’m in the market for a waxed canvas jacket (even though it’s getting warmer) and I noticed Thursday recently released one! I wonder how theirs compares with this gem from Flint and Tinder...
@@Stridewise I’ve heard that it isn’t thicker, it just a measurement which they make was waxed material vs flint and tinder measures jacket material unwaxed
i think this flint and tinder jacket is the all around best for size and price, i will add Gustin as another one making waxed jackets usa made for 189 unlined.
I know it's a different style, but I think a mention of Barbour in the discussion of alternative waxed jackets would have been appropriate. They're usually a bit more expensive but they can be had around this price range and even under when on sale. END is actually selling the Barbour Ashby jacket for $259, which is an incredible bargain. I have a Bedale myself and I love it -- it's incredibly versatile, as it has a removeable hood and an optional vest liner for insulation, plus moleskin lined hand warmer pockets for colder weather. I like Flint and Tinder's trucker jacket, too, but it's definitely less functional. On a sidenote, I actually managed to snag one for my boyfriend on sale from Huckberry for around $120 a few years ago. Crazy how prices have climbed!
I have a Bedale vs Beaufort comparison coming up actually! There are a billion waxed jackets out there and with this video being about THAT jacket I thought best to just mention jackets like it if you're gravitating toward the style. I know that hoods are more functional but I just prefer without em
I wanted to get an Over Under Briar Jacket in gray but they didn’t have it in my size so I went with a made in england Peregrine Bexley. i also got a Roland Sands Design jacket with canvas body and leather sleeves for riding.
oh thanks! i'm not a huge watch guy, i just like field watches so I have my Hamilton field watch, two Vaer field watches, a Tag Heuer formula 1 and my dad's Omega seamaster he gave me
@@Stridewise I’m not a huge watch guy either but have learned a little about the different styles/movements. Pretty interesting. I know the Hamilton field watch is a respectable “budget” automatic. I heard they’ve released a Hamilton “Murph” based off the watch from Interstellar…pretty cool. That Omega sounds legit. Gotta treasure those gifts from parents/grandparents. I’ve got a couple of watches I enjoy just nothing above the “budget” category.
Glad you’ve done another review!, really enjoyed it, I decided to go for this jacket because it’s cool versatile and Joel millers jacket. Btw Is your watch an Omega Planet ocean orange dial? Looks similar to my dads watch
I bought this jacket a couple years ago. I love it. The only issue I have with it is the flannel lining in the sleeves. My right sleeve seems to have an access amount of flannel lining and it’s all bunched up inside making it tighter than my left sleeve. Not a big deal but it’s kind of annoying
Waxing pro tip: do not use a heat gun, do not use a hair dryer. Apply wax, button/zip the garment up, turn inside out and put it in a dryer unit for 5 minutes on medium heat. If you do several jackets at a time, it will save you hours (and produce a more uniform coat).
I have a waxed canvas hat n satchel. Looking for a vest, any videos on that? Also there's a military waxed jacket I've been needing but always out of stock. Been looking since 2020. Watched the Last of Us 10+ hours gameplay long before the tv version. Took two weeks to watch.
I’m 5”8 I’d say average build.. I have 2 Levi’s jackets in Large that fit me perfect, and also a jacket from Hart and huntington that is Medium but fits like a large.. t shirts I normally wear xl as they end up shrinking and a lot of the Large ones fit too tight afterwards.. wonder if the rancher in Large would make sense for me, or should I look at the Medium one? I like how the jacket looks on you because it’s not so big and bulky looking yet, doesn’t appear to be very restrictive either.. you appear taller so just curious on the best choice on the size of the rancher for me.. that’s the thing that sucks about buying online.. if I could find a brick and mortar that sold these I’d just go and try one on) thanks hope to get some input, really digging that jacket
Bought a lightly waxed jacket from mountain khakis. It’s by far my heaviest and warmest jacket, but I feel like the wax coating is light since it was pretty flexible when I first got it And the washing instructions say you can put it in the washing machine?
What is your height, chest size, and your armlength? Im considering buying huckberry flint and tinder jacket and i fall between L and XL not sure which one to get
I really wanted to like this jacket but it just doesn't fit me right. I'm a medium in everything but medium and large in this jacket both are too small in the shoulders for me
Great vid. I really like the charcoal colour but the flannel-lined version only has “light grey”, which seems lighter, and “coal” which looks a lot darker in the product shots. Do you happen to know if either are actually similar to the “charcoal”?
That's so frustrating! I would normally assume "Light Grey" (flannel) and "Charcoal" (wool) are the same, but remember wool and flannel have different canvas, wool's is thicker. so you can't assume they're using the same canvas in both. I'd trust the pics, but huckberry are pretty responsive on site if you want to confirm.
Does anyone know how to get indigo stains out of a wax jacket? I have the Rogue Territory version of this jacket and the sleeves got indigo on them when I wore the jacket with some Iron Hearts.
I’m debating between getting the Flint and Tinder Flannel lined waxed Trucker or the Filson Short lined cruiser jacket . In Britain the Filson is the more expensive but only by around £20 and it is 14oz and lined compared to 7oz FT jacket. Any advice welcome.
I’ve been staying away from waxed canvas and canvas jackets in general lately. Trying to break free of the worker lumberjack look. Thinking of getting the Thursday tobacco racer.
A little disappointed here. The history of waxed canvas jackets was mentioned but no reference to the British Isles where it was invented. Please don’t ignore us over here. 😕
I’ve had this jacket for a couple years too but I barely wear because of how ridiculously short it is. I’m 6’2” and it’s a crop top on me. I can’t recommend this jacket to any over 6’1”. Might as well wear your girlfriend’s jacket. Flint and Tinder should really make a tall with 30” length
