How to Make Melon Kakigori

1 Ripe Muskmelon
- Syrup -
75g Sugar (2.6 oz) - adjust the amount to taste
100ml Water (3.4 fl oz)
Brandy or Whisky, optional
Sweetened Condensed Milk, optional
- Melon Cream Soda -
Melon Juice from around the seeds and fibrous core
Carbonated Water
Syrup
Vanilla Ice Cream
Ice Cubes

Wow! I've never seen such luxurious shaved ice before! At first I was confused because your muskmelon looks like American cantaloupe from the outside, but when you opened it it was green! I'd love to try your variety of muskmelon one day.

The green melon is Honeydew. Muskmelon is a species/ family name. Both the orange Cantaloupe ( Rockmelon here in AUS) and Honeydew Melon are related!

Doomtrigger no they are different. Musk Melon is like a cantaloupe, honey dew have smooth outer skin and a totally different taste. Usually in the US Musk Melon is what you're gonna be seeing since true cantaloupe is usually found in parts of Europe, and even then its rare. Honeydew and Musk melon are two totally different melons. Sorry Ive been in the produce business for a very long time lol Didnt mean to dork out on melons...

Dani Pollack it tastes like a cantaloupe. Its very sweet and aromatic. Usually with an orange flesh, which is why its weird to see one so green in this video. But if you've never tasted it i highly recommend it! There is a candy, called Hi-chew, they have a cantaloupe flavor, and its i honestly as close to the real thing ive ever found in a candy, so if you cant find really musk melon, try to find those! its very very close, just a little sweeter :) If you are in the USA walgreens sell them in bags of the tropical mix :)

abbylove2002 Japan is known throughout Asia to produce some of the region's best fruits (usually also very expensive so people from other countries don't get to consume Japanese fruit as often). Do give their fruits a try if you happen to visit Japan.

Wow, this looks so good! Muskmelons are called Rockmelons in Australia. Rockmelon is probably my favourite melon. I would try this recipe (probably in Summer, it's winter here now), but I don't have an Ice Shaver machine (and have no idea where I could get one). I will definitely try the Melon Cream Soda though.

Muskmelon is actually the species name so Rockmelon and Honeydew Melon are related! Both can be used for this recipe but the green one is more traditionally used in Japan.
