My dad an I own an operate a small residential grading company. I’ve been doing this kinda work for 22 years since I was 10. And I love watching how other people do it. You my friend are a badass on that tractor and have a lot of pride in what you do! Grading is my passion an I can tell it’s yours too! Great job man can’t wait to see your channel grow! I’m thinking about starting a channel too. We need more grading channels to watch! Lol

For those getting into anything involving laying crusher run/GAB/road bond: there is a formula to calculate tonnage. Length x Width divided by 9(gives you square yardage) then multiplied by (110 for 1inch, 220 for 2inch, etc) divided by 2000 and thats your tonnage. It weighs 110LBS at an inch thick in one square yard, so multiply the 110 by your inches of thickness.
@dillonbrown4382
@dillonbrown4382 3 года назад
So if i have a 10x10 area and im laying it 2” thick the formula I would use would look like this: 10x10 divided by 9 x 220 divided by 2000 = 1.22 tons.

I’ve been told that a rough estimate is 1.5 tons per cubic yard? If I have a trench that is 10’ long by 3’ wide by 5’ deep I figure cubic yards 10x5x3=150 cubic feet divided by 27 to give me cubic yards of 5.55 then I multiply by 1.5 to give me 8.33 tons.....have you ever heard that formula?
@HiddenValleyHomestead
@HiddenValleyHomestead 3 года назад
@@timcrosby4651 I looked up crushed rock online and that matched what the rock quarry lady told me.. about 2500lbs-2900lbs/cubic yard... so pretty much 1.5 tons/yd like you said...

I agree 100% that it looks like a blast and probably doing a better job with that tilt bucket and excavator vs box blade. I’ve been working for a while cutting a driveway in on my property with a subcompact and box blade and it’s a long, tedious process for sure. The fancy toys definitely make a big difference but totally worth it when it’s your business.

I had a well driller tell me that on certain clay's to put larger 3" minus down in the mud, and fabric on that to keep the what would be now sealed constantly wet clay from pumping, and then put AB on the fabric that is over the 3" minus that is over the clay allowing it to drain better I guess. Granted he is a pump driller and not a road builder, but he does drove the heaviest equipment over roads built by driveway or country road builders, and notices the difference, so he says. It sounds reasonable. Any further advice on this? I know I just did a job in clay that another guy left, which ended up eroding big time. I put down inch and half and tracked into this up hill drive and that seemed to stabilized the road to where I was no longer sliding and it did dry quicker. Then I put the fabric down. The the 3/4". Had I done the fabric, it would have just tore up. The guy's advice was a good call on that job.

Finally I saw how you laid down roadbed cloth and drove over it! I was wondering how that worked.. I thought it would wad up under your tires or tear from the weight or whatnot.. I'm curious why you didn't put any cloth under the steep portion of driveway. Is it because it slopes enough to drain quickly?

Hay dude I have a fabric question. If you have fabric down and after some and the drive needs regraded what it the chance of 'accidently' ripping up some of the fabric and causing a lot of repair. Just curious.
@danmalloy6908
@danmalloy6908 3 года назад
Yes you have to watch it. Put lots of gravel on top and roll it down well. Make sure all of the fabric is well covered and repair holes immediately and often.
@toddreynolds8875
@toddreynolds8875 3 года назад
When we build a new driveway. If fabric is needed. Goes right to the bottom then 12 plus inches of base gravel. Or clean gravel stone tailings. Then 6 inch of processed chrush run gravel over that. , but obviously this is exsististing and probably not in the budget to do it as if it was a new virgin driveway

Why do you dig when you have frost underground? Should at least dig 20 cm down and then take fibercloth then take 4-5mm singel, and then gravel on top to have a good stable road. And trenches and trench and tubes to divade the water. Should never fix a road in the winter, should be done during summer not when you have frost (telehiv) under ground.
