I am definitely back with another NURI sardine review. This time I review the NURI Extra Spiced Sardines AND the new bottled Nuri Extra Virgin Olive oil. Besides that you can see the new limited edition NURI 6-pack variety in a really cool gift box. It's really impressive to open for the first time; it puts a big smile on my face. "Ear to ear baby!"
But seriously the bulk of this show centers around the Nuri Extra Spiced Sardines aged in fine olive oil. One of my viewers suggested I make a sandwich with my sardines. So I did! Thanks to them it was absolutely delicious. I made sure to obtain fresh baked bread as a key ingredient in my tasting.
Let me know what you think!
You can find some of the products in the show here:

Glad I found this video! I just got back from Portugal and visited the Nuri cannery in Porto. (Technically, it's the Pinhais cannery. The Pinhais brand stays witihin Portugal, but Nuri is the export brand name. They are both the same product though, produced in the same facility by the same staff with the exact same quality and attention to detail.) I had never had canned sardines before, but figured I'd try the best first - Nuri sardines in the cafe of the cannery! They are outstanding! I bought several cans to bring home. Note that when flying (between EU countries and back to the US) with tinned fish, you can have them in your carry-on as long as each can weighs less than 150g. Standard Nuri cans are 125g, so you can stock up. Double-check with your airlines to be sure though. YMMV I cannot recommend the Pinhais cannery tour enough when visiting Porto. It was definitely one of the highlights of my entire trip. Miguel was our tour guide, and he really made the whole experience extraordinary. You get a sardine tasting at the end too. I consider this tour a MUST when visiting Porto. Book in advance. Lastly, you dont need to cut the wrapper off the can. At the cannery they showeed us that with the way the labels are applied (which you get to learn how to do on the tour), the tape holding the side flaps down only sticks to the top long flap. To get the label off the can, you just open the bottom long flap (imagine opening the tucked flap of an envelope), and the can will slide right out. Enjoy!!

@nerdingoutwithfood 11 месяцев назад
Wow, that sounds like quite the experience. Thanks for sharing all the details about the tour. And the tip about opening the wrapper, helpful to all. Thank you.

My preference is Season Mackerel (Chub) packed in olive oil. I flavor it with Tabasco sauce. I will try Nuri if I can find it.

@nerdingoutwithfood
@nerdingoutwithfood Год назад
I'll open one up and post a show on the mackerel this week. They have the spicy mackerel with skin and bones and the fillets in both Olive oil or spicy. The fillets are produced in limited quantity. The reason, they selectively choose the larger fish to fillet. The fillets are quite large. Look out for that this week and thanks for the comment.

Nuri doesn’t use EVOO to pack their sardines because it is too flavorful and would overpower the flavor of the fish. The use light olive oil.

So if I’m a person who enjoys let’s say ghost pepper, will these sardines be of the same caliber or no, like what hot sauce range would this be in? Like a franks red hot? Or a tabasco
@nerdingoutwithfood
@nerdingoutwithfood 7 месяцев назад
They are more savory and spiced than hot. So not even close to a ghost pepper, AND probably not even close to a jalapeño.

It’s not an insult. Go ahead and try Nuri sardines; you won’t go back to “great value.” Try any European sardines, they blow away most domestic varieties. Once i tried Ortiz and yurrita tuna there is no way I could go back to “chicken of the sea.”

If you are looking for sardines that are cheap, but still taste good, Season brand is pretty good. They are around $2 a can. King Oscar tastes even better and is also around $2, but they are actually sprats, not sardines.

its nutrition - not caviar-- retail $$$ to the better off. like Quinoa was zip per pound until the pretentious foodies turned it into gold, so much that the natives who produced out- could not buy it. like $30 a pound dried strawberries!!!
@nerdingoutwithfood
@nerdingoutwithfood Год назад
If you want nutrition only and don't are about quality or taste just get a can of beans. For about a dollar you can have high fiber and protein. I know I eat them for lunch on my salad every day. However if you want nutrition plus unique flavors and textures it's nice to treat ourselves as much as we can. Life shouldn't be hard. Enjoy it.

After pinhais staff carefully selects only the best fish at the market; to producing the product by hand with the finest ingredients; then sending the product across the Atlantic ocean these are worth at least $7-$8 per can. 😉 millions of people pay $6 for a Starbucks cappuccino everyday when they can buy a cup at McDonald’s for less than half the price. If you want quality products you pay more for it.
