Hey folks. Thanks for taking the time to watch this video. I recommend watching it at 1.25x or 1.5x speed. My ability to turn my thoughts into speech isn't what it used to be. I rambled a lot in this video, especially in the computer parts, and it took many takes to get it to this point. Thanks for watching and let me know if I can help in any way. Onward! (

Fantastic video. Bought the plans. Could you explain how you would use the VCarve tiling feature with your template file for the OneFinity cart. Any chance of a short followup video for a demonstration?
@Pulps00
@Pulps00 10 месяцев назад
@@novamaggart3251 I'm curious about this too. I'm nearly done putting together the cart (struggling with the tnuts part but found a better solution). I think you would do the first tile against the corner fence, lock it down and remove the rear fence and drill out 2 1/4" pin holes through the work material and into the spoilboard (one closer to top and one towards middle or bottom like the ones used on the fence somewhere outside of the work area so when you slide it up the lower locator will drop into the top locator

I don't even have the words for how fantastic this video is, Jay! I don't own a CNC machine, but after watching this, I think I would want the EXACT setup you designed for Bill...and with the same CNC machine. If nothing else, you absolutely sold me on this "package" of components for a successful beginning to what would become a satisfying future with CNC woodworking. Man, oh man....I'm blown away at the phenomenal effort you put into this video. You B da KING, Jay!

Excellent video Jay. I don't have a onefinity but I can use your ideas for my machine - Laguna IQ. I made a very simple vertical hold jig awhile back. Now I can use your ideas to modify and improve what I originally did. I always enjoy your thought process and glad you include this. I have tried to model some of how I do my own RU-vid videos after the style you use by telling my viewers what I am thinking and why I am doing what I do. I do this because of watching many of your videos and how they help me learn.

Great video Jay! Work holding has always been the difficult part of my CNC experience. I'm pondering how I can incorporate some of these ideas. Regarding your tight box joints ... measure the bit you used ... I've found that several of the bits I've used that were marked 0.250 were .001-.003 smaller (yea, AFTER I made my parts ... sigh). Easy fix is to enter the exact diameter, and let the software adapt. Same thing goes when you have EXACTLY 0.250 spacing and the software refuses to go down the path ... drop the diameter in software from 0.250 to 0.249 and see if it doesn't run correctly. I believe I'm going to have to upgrade from Part Wizard to V-Carve Pro ... um ... thanks (I think)! Actually can't blame you ... I've been putting this off for a while now. Thanks and regards, R

For hold downs, gotta say I love my 3d printed ones. I have a 3d printer here, so they are fast and really really cheap to make. But its nice because I can be thinner than using wood ones. The plastic cuts great for the times I have given them a kiss with the CNC. I use allen key bolts, I agree with using a tool. The allen key ones are nice because they are that middle ground of head size. And I have a mag strip by mine so the key is always within reach of the machine

Just found one issue. Suppose you have the heavy-duty Z20 slider instead of the Z16 slider. In that case, the spoiler board will be moved slightly forward to the front edge of the cart, therefor if you upgrade to the Z20 slider after making this cart with the Z16 slider, which I did, it'll knock your spoil board, verticle table, and the threads out of alignment. Redoing the top or sending back the Z20 are my choices. Update kept the Z20, redid the top, and found another minor issue. The second row of t-nuts above the verticle table now lands on the middle frame, making installing them from underneath impossible. Instead, I'll add them with threaded inserts from the top of the machine bed.
@ryankim3612

I do not have the vertical table ability which I think is something I am definitely missing .. I Ama only a few months into the bedded cnc. The machine file you mentioned is that essentially your zero points? Or is that the entire group of files you included with this cart. My particular machine uses a hand held controller where I run my files off a usb stick . Well thank you for taking so much time to put this whole project together. I can only imagine the man hours you spent to put this entire project and video together.. Thank you .

I love the cart and am definitely thinking about purchasing it to build for my Onefinity Journeyman. From what I've heard from others, the motor current zeroing the Onefinity uses may eliminate the benefits of your clever fence/zeroing system. That stall current isn't repeatable enough to really leverage a system like that, as depending on the level of dust/maintenance it will drift on you.
@chadvoller2031
@chadvoller2031 Год назад
On a maintained machine it's so small you'll never notice the difference, well within tolerances of most woodworking jobs. A quick dusting with an cheap paint brush is all it takes to keep it clean.
@ryankim3612
@ryankim3612 8 месяцев назад
Sorry, new guy here: can someone explain what Eladeflow is referencing please? (And explain it to me like I’m 5yo). Based on Chadvoller’s response, I am thinking it’s the slight buildup of dust in the critical corners/fence zeroing system-throwing off the EXACT critical “zero” point that Jay worked so hard to attain with his system(?)

(Complete CNC newbie here so apologies if this is a silly question!) Also; when using this method for homing the machine, do you still use the z height magnet doohickey (forgot the name) on the top left each time? Or just once to the spoilboard surface at bottom left. That's if you shut the machine down half way through a carve and want continue or decided to run the carve again with a smaller TBN. You do have to setup the stall homing for the best results, which is a fairly easy process. Some have to do it seasonally if run in a shop that doesn't have the best climate control.

I just bought the elite foreman. Is the files “expandable” for the 48x48 cut area or is the file protected from manipulation?

Jay, I just discovered this site - great build and narration (rambling is OK with me). I hope you're still monitoring this thread because I have a couple of questions. Early in the video, you mentioned using a torsion box as a foundation/base, which I thought was a great idea; however in the end, it doesn't look like it was implemented. What was your thinking in making the change? Also, do you offer any plans for a torsion box if I decided I would like to build one. The other question is regarding the usefulness of the pull-through drawers after a year of use. I don't know how often I would need access from both sides of the cart and I kind of liked the spaces for the compressor and dust collector. Thanks, Tim

@JayBates 4 месяца назад
My friend has this so I can't speak for the drawers. But the torsion box idea was basically turned inside out by making the openings boxes and making the blocking wrap around the boxes...instead of being inside.

Is there a modified version of the bench for the smaller X35?

I’ve tried opening the vector files in multiple programs. They don’t scale to the correct dimensions. How can I fix this? I’ve tried fusions 360, carveco, vCarve. When I set my material type I’ve tried both in metric and impartial but with vectors shouldn’t they be automatically scaled ?

Hello Jay, love this build. I'm new to cnc world, so having your content is very helpful. I have purchased Elite Foreman, so it will be coming soon. So my question is, do you have plans for it as well? It's footprint is about 64''x64''. Thanks

On the onefinity forum I asked the needed table dimensions for the Foreman here was my answer from onefinity OnefinityCNC Onefinity Support Leader X = 70 inches Y = 75 inches Z = 25 inches These measurements include room for wires, motors, and the screen being in the fullest extended forward position.

Just bought your plans. I don't even own a Onefinity, yet! I have one about them for now. Since it's MDF would you seal it with Shellac, Polyurethane or something else?

Jay, as usual, brilliant design, but! (I admit, I'm at lunch at work so I haven't had the chance to watch every minute of the entire video yet) you glued the spoilboard down? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
@JayBates
@JayBates Год назад
How so? When it gets chewed down to 1/4" or so just flatten and glue another 3/4" layer on top and cut the holes again. It's a never ending spoil board. Never remove it. Just glue more on top.
@JeffSolenberg
@JeffSolenberg Год назад
@@JayBates Excellent point. I have T-nuts as part of my spoilboard and I keep forgetting that this one has no metal in it. I need to take some lessons from you on thinking outside the box. :D
@JayBates
@JayBates Год назад
Ahh gotcha. That is the very reason why I wanted them in the cart top and not the spoilboard top. Having them in the cart top also prevents the holes from clogging up. Dust will go through.
@JeffSolenberg
@JeffSolenberg Год назад
@@JayBates I promise I won't carry this thread out forever, but this is why I've been a fan of your videos for years. To think of putting the T-nuts under the cart top instead of the spoilboard, putting the torsion box on the bottom instead of the top... Things like this just don't enter my mind. Tips like these are fantastic! Keep 'em coming!!! And since I've got your attention for just a sec, your method of teaching Sketchup is better than any I've ever seen. You know exactly how to include just enough repetition to help ingrain a technique without it ever getting old or the learner getting lost. Educational pay sites could learn something from you.

Why would you glue the spoil board down? how do you plan on replacing it?
@JayBates

Why replace spoilboard? Flatten, glue down a fresh sheet, flatten once more. Never remove. Just flatten and add.

This is a nice build, but I'd emphatically recommend that nobody glue the spoil board down. It is going to need to be replaced and you're going to have a very bad time doing that if you glue it down.
@JayBates
@JayBates Год назад
Incorrect. Why remove anything? Flatten one last time and glue more down. Removing = wasting.
@Kyle-qu4rc
@Kyle-qu4rc Год назад
@@JayBates so you are just going to keep gluing a new waste board on top of the old one? What if you have a bit dive into it a couple times and now you need to remove 3/4" worth of material so you can glue another one down? You'll keep losing Z clearance for basically zero benefit over just screwing it down. Just my opinion of course.
@peterfreedom

You glued the wasteborad to the top of your bench. When you will want to change the wasteboard, you will have to dismantle the complete to of your bench? Am I missing something?

I am very interested in this cart but I do have one question. My machine came with a year free subscription to Carveco Maker. How simple is it to transfer Vcarve files to other softwares? I just don't want to find myself in a situation where I buy this and then can't use half of the features.
