This story is infinitely more complicated than 12 year old me realized.

I fucking loved this game, the world, the soundtrack, the Esper summons and even the sometimes over complex story. At least it had a proper story unlike the games that followed it.

In my opinion FF12 has the most mature story of all final fantasies I played. All in all this game is really underrated. I wish they would make more games in the Ivalice world, it's probably my favourite...

I can't be the only one who like Final Fantasy 12 as a game there was so much to it other than its story it had bunch of great features as an RPG

It's amazing how good this game looks when running on an emulator that could give it the horse power it deserved. It was pretty gritty looking on the PS2.

Even watching this the talking is so fast I can't keep up with the story. It's crazy how much bigger the story is in 12 compared to 15 which was in development for 10 years

I think it's time to dust off the PS2 and play this game again.

This was the first FF game I ever owned. Every other I've played has been borrowed or I played on an emulator. At the time, I found the story to be sort of... eh. I don't think I had much of an appreciation for politically-charged stories. While I still don't think the story is amazing or great by any means, I've certainly come to appreciate it a bit more. Because I actually owned a copy of this game, I spent more time playing it than any other FF game before it. I had my few gripes with the story but hoooly shit was I really into the world. It seemed so alive and interesting. Some of the politics may have gone over my head but I sure felt like the world had a history to it. It also helped that it had a pretty huge world. I recall a few times when I wandered into a cave and wish I hadn't (higher level enemies whooped my ass). Another time, I wandered in a bit too deep and found myself fighting against Adrammelech, the electric flying goat esper. I remember being scared cause I had gone in too deep, had few items, and was desperate for a way out. I managed to beat the boss and get out of there but boy did that experience stick with me. I feel like that's a thing not a lot of JRPGs do exceedingly well: creating a world with a sense of history behind it, a dangerous world that you are thrown into, where stepping into the wrong areas at the wrong time can get you killed. Anyways, as I'm typing this, I'm patiently waiting for my copy of FFXII HD. I haven't played this game since its release and I'm itching to be immersed in its world once more.

I saw my brother completing this game in both japanese and english versions. It was the only FF of the PS2 generation I never played. I feel like I missed a lot. I'm sure aiming to play FFXII in a near future.

Is it just me, or does Final Fantasy XII have a few parallels with the story of Star Wars? Bahamut = Death Star Cid & Balthier = I am your father, although Balthier already knew, so its more Ben and Han than Luke and Anakin Vayne(controlled by Venat) = Vader(Palpatine) Ashe = Padme Rasler's Ghost = Force Ghost

AWESOME video! Wow... Honestly I have only watched a bit less than half of it (around 14 minutes) as that is as much as I've played (in the Zodiac Age version, but it still fits). But it serves as a GREAT refresher of events, should I wish to continue playing at some point in the future. I've enjoyed your videos in the past, Oni, but only now subscribed. Holy shit. I didn't realized this was THAT complicated.

The sky fortress Bahamut and the entire empire fleet is coming to meet the entire resistance fleet backed up by the rozarrians, starting the last stand of epic battle in the sky... - meanwhile the main characters finishing every monster hunt, completing hunt clubs, hunting optional espers, fighting ultimate monsters, combing every inch of the airdeck, zoning in and out that part in henne mines, spending 40hours++ and still that final battle did not took place if we don't fly to bahamut with the sthrall.

Best Final Fantasy game I have ever played. Just recently started playing again since I have some free time - but this time I'm trying out international zodiac job system.

I played the game but only until the "bunny village" (or whatever the name is) then my banking work got crazy and was never able to play it again. This was 8 years ago so its great to have some kind of closure to my unfinished game. Thanks for the video!

I know its an old video, but what would have been nice is if you spelled out some of these names and places on screen. I didn't understand half of what was said since the names are all unusual and are hard to keep track of if you didn't already know them.

It's good to see how the game looks in color. When I played it as a kid for whatever reason it was fully black and white. EDIT: and my PC can't run the HD remake sadly

Glad you have this recap. i got bored with the game after about 15 hrs or so. never picked it back up. glad to get the abridged version since i've been curious for quite some time now, just not enough to actually play it.

I can't wait to play this game on the ps4 remake. just hope the Ds game, the sequel, gets a movie remake of something like that. that game is really good too

I like the story, although Vaan was quite a bland character, the protagonist should have been Balthier or Basch.

with a better storyline this game could have easily been the best one of them all, loved it none the less. I wish they had made more side quests though, I got my characters to lv. 99 and had nothing left to do, and I wanted more :(

FOR IVALICE!!! ✊🐰 Seriously, I love Ivalice and how it does it's best to keep a timeline within a series of games that were never meant to be connected by anything more than vague motifs. 12, Tactics, Crystal Defenders and Vagrant Story 😆 And I really want to know more about The Occuria and their Great Crystal below Giruvegan. And I like to believe that FF6 and FF9 have some connection to Ivalice, as 6 uses Espers and 9 has a similar array of diverse species as well as the TranceAbility displayed in 6. {[Head Canon] The Occuria are the descendants of the long gone Black Mage Puppets in FF9. Over centuries, the BlackMages used Garlands advanced technology to improve themselves. But they knew the planet under their feet could not sustain their PowerDraw. So they gathered what they could, including Crystals, Mist, and Trance Capable Beings... and they traveled the stars until they found a planet that met *their* requirements. A planet with massive amounts of untouched energies in the forms of Crystals and Mists. But this time, the Mages chose a path of Conservation. Becoming the Occuria, they chose to live high above the clouds. They would be it's caretakers while they seeded the world with beings *less capable* of harvesting the Magiks within the land. Giruvegan and it's Great Crystal were the last remnants of a world they left behind. The Occuria were cautious about intervening directly in the affairs of those below them. i wish i had time in 2006 to play this. never had the time and moved on to PS3 and it was forgotten... lets hope theres a re-release.

My fave ff .. Replaying zodiac now

I tried playing this when it first came out but couldn't get into it. Finished ZA Remaster when that released a few years ago but honestly I couldn't tell you anything about the story or characters. I found it all so forgettable. I'm curious to give it another go but I'm not sure if it'll have any more impact a third time around. I'm going to watch this and see if it can motivate me to give it another go.

hmm... yeah my brain can't quite grasp some of this stuff, I understand what your saying most of the time but the characters and locations seem to just not stick. I think you did a really good job with these videos and I really liked the ones up to and including the Crisis Core one despite never having played any of the old ones.

I just wish the gameplay wasn't so boring, because the rest of the game seems so cool

This game in a nutshell: Avenging a coup of a kingdom with another coup but the main characters are orphans,royals, and a sky pirate with a rabbit and the villain is a dictator with a power complex.

I have played this game several times and loved it. But I hate grinding nowadays so I wanna play it again with cheats. Is there a way to do this?

I didn’t know it has a good story about nukes. I think all Ivalice story line has a good story. Im just happy I 100% the hunting board.

All Final Fantasy are great except 8, 10, and 13 because I hate too much love story and Lightning. But Final Fantasy XII is one of the Best for me, my top 2 atleast

I loved FF12. The only downside I found was that it had no earth elemental spells and only a level 1 water elemental spell.

A top 3 Final Fantasy for me. I never truly understood why people dont like this game, it has a perfect balance of open and atb battle system, fully open world, a meaningful story, (which incorporated politics very nicely) decent characters, (well besides Vaan, he sucked ass) hunts, high replay ability, and I loved the monsters and cities and overall just everything in this game. The only things I didn't really like were the crappy soundtrack and Vaan

This game is the first time EVER to take out random encounters and make summons useless onwards to xv, maybe xvi depending if they still have $$ and/or decidated fans to make another game, BUT this game strayed away from the previous final fantasy (1 to x, respectively)

I seem to be going against the grain, but I really think FFXII is a missed opportunity since it's set in Ivalice. There was so much backstory and lore hinted in FF Tactics. We could have seen the rise and fall of St Ajora. We could have gotten more lore of the Auracite crystals. I was always confused by the sudden shift in benevolence when one revived Malach instead of possessing Rafa. We could have played as Germonique as he navigates the intrigue of the Church, the Lucavi and taking down Ivalice's equivalent of the Anti-Christ. That would have been a great story. This loosely connected cast and settings to Tactics is a real waste imho.

The politics in this story is very thick. still a little difficult to keep up 7 years later, but still a very beautiful, under associated story

When you load a random save and forget what the heck's going on and end up trying to quickening spam all the bosses

i never put that together... i've played the game through like 9-times and I never realized the bike Fran is driving in the palace escape crashes because Vaan has the nethicite.

FF12 was overlooked because it came out so late in the PS2's life cycle. It really is an extremely good game.

I just want to point out two things: -How amazing this game looked, and still looks, to this day. -How well this game was summarized... great job

Basically the Game of Thrones of Final Fantasy.

I actually like Vaan. He is relateable. He has no idea whats going on and is learning as he goes. Just like we are, as the player.

It's crazy to think, but after watching this video and realizing XII's story as a whole, maybe Venat was really the good guy, as it was trying to stop the Ocurians' puppet stringing of the mortal races by having the stones destroyed once and for all.
