I learned a great deal from you, sir. I will be using your methods on both my RV and an enclosed cargo trailer that will be stored in a lot for a while. It will contain all my household goods while I look for a new house.
Having had the system for a while now would you buy the same system again? Have you run into spots where Wi-Fi signal was not sufficient? If so, does the system still work to give you an audible alert if you are inside the camper & someone is opening one of your outside compartments? Also, do you have a recommendation for Wi-Fi setups?
Found your site looking for security systems. Great review keep up the good work. Layer 3 training is a must for all- watch your lane with a mid bunk. Sounds like layer 4 might be a tripping hazard, but will make layer 3 easier. Looking forward to seeing more vids from you.
Very surprising you don’t have a lot more subscribers than you do! Shouldn’t take much longer to get that 1,000 Mark and get you monetized! Found your channel while looking for videos on a 31mb since we are in the market. Great job and I’ll keep watching.
Thank you so much for this detailed security system walk through. We are about to purchase our first RV which is a 36 ft 5th Wheel. Your video helped us so much.
I like how he says the world is a little crazy right now:-0. Um that`s being PC for RU-vid try Ba tShit Crazy. Great video, be safe on the road and God Bless
Just ran across your channel the other day thanks to Let's Head Wherever. Binged watch everything....let's get season 3 going, LOL!!! GREAT vids, insights and information. Was curious about the Ring for campers as I'm wanting to do something like this...THANKS!!!! Keep up the GREAT job!!!!
Nice video. Seems like you got everything covered. I have a Class B RV and would love to have something like this. Would like to know more about your Wi-Fi and router setup. Thanks man.
I also would like to know more on the Wi-Fi setup. I am trying to find a Wi-Fi setup to mount in my RV so I can keep a ring system connected anywhere as well.
Good Man. Thank you so much for this. This is my dream one day. And I'm super conscious about the security aspect of it. Glad to see that there are plenty of resources available. This is invaluable.
Thank you, sir, good job! PS -- I noticed your RV Lock hung up once during your video. Mine does the same thing every great once in a while. For that reason, I keep the RV Lock physical key available outside the RV. 🙂 Lou from Georgia.
Thanks for the edukashion [education];browsing for an RV as I read, listen and type.......God bless and keep you, your family and all RVers out there living the dream, safe.
Great video. Do you have to reconfigure the cameras after you travel then turn them back on? What internet service are you using? What kind of router are you using? We just went full time ourselves and any information you could give us would be much appreciated! Thank you for your service and glad you are still with us!
Awesome video brother. Straight forward to the point and totally honest. You got me as a subscriber to your channel. Best of luck and wish you well in the years to come. God Bless.
Awesome Video. I purchased all the items, then followed you while you installed the items. Couldn't see your code in video so now I'm locked out of my RV?? Just kidding. Super easy to follow instructions.
Just saw your show for the first time. Thought it was great. You have my thinking more about our security when away from our 5th whl. I have subscribed and will be looking forward to your next program. (Your placement of leak alarms was especially useful and something I am going to do as a start to me “security upgrades”
Awesome Video, very educational, and greatly appreciated. Thank you! I look forward to see more of your videos. May God continue to bless you and keep you. Blessings.........
change your entry PW code, You used a blur which can be undone after a YT download with editing software. Use the smudge tool or brush tool. RV life- fun for a while but pets take a beating and my kids and I got tired of 400 sqft quick. That Rv door is made out of homedepot bathroom plastic? I had no idea. My 87 bounder door is metal but IDK if its any tougher. like the vid, good editing and I learned a cpl things.
just found your channel , good detailed researched video thank you . i am a Newbie to rving so ur picks have helped me out .TY an keep those videos coming.
Thanks for the good video! I liked your idea with the ring camera install instead of the ring doorbell. I also used the 3m tape but it doesn’t stick more than a day or two before it falls off the RV. Have you had this issue too?
I am curious on how many amps this system would draw? We reside, full-time in a 36' fifth wheel. Our park only has 30amp service and we have to be cautious on what and how many things we can "run". I prefer not to be a home invasion stat! Thank you.
👍👍👍 on the keyless entry locks. All RV's seem to have one of a handful of key codes. A good thief will have those keys. Change them immediately. I love the un-discussed options 3 😜. If anyone has a camera security system that runs off of the house 12vdc batteries, please let me know. I’d like to try to avoid an inverter and it’s inefficiencies of possible. Thanks for the vids. Look forward to others.
Hello and thank you for the video. My plan was to get a camera. My question is if you put the piece that mounts to the camper if you needed to remove that will it peel of the paint. Just curious Thank you
I may use an old cookie sheet under the plumbing and stick sensor in that. It may help contain slow leak as well, so it doesnt seep into cracks behind stuff. Like a washing machine pan. Great info! Thank you for taking the time to show us this. Do you have continuous internet to get notification when you are not there?
I'd like to see a video on wifi of eighter to get started or how reliable wifi on the road is🤔 my question leads to me adding these things from ring on my semi truck 🚛🤝y'all stayblessed
I’ve got a Netgear Nighthawk M1 modem connected to a Netgear WiFi Router. It’s all plugged into a small power inverter so everything stays active even when we’re on the road and we can use our WiFi in the truck. It’s not as fancy as some of the commercial grade setups I’ve seen, but it works!
Let me just add one thing about “last line of defense.” You are in a vehicle with propane tanks - if you’re in a class c or class a, you’ve got gas or diesel on board. Know your sight lines, maybe even make a Kevlar box to protect your tanks from…projectiles….yours or the bad guys. One of the worst things I ever saw as a nurse, guy took a shot at a rattler that was enjoying the shade under his vehicle. The projectile ricocheted, and it hit something that you shouldn’t mess with…and 3rd degree burns are a bad thing. So, make friends with a quilter, and get a Kevlar quilted box to protect things that go boom. Hope you’re all safe and well.
Good information. Thanks. I am going full time in my truck camper. More worried about someone stealing my truck with my camper on it, So I am taking all measures to prevent that. Alarm System, Kill Switches even pulling certain relays out of the fuse box when I know I will be away all day, That along with the ring system and possibly a tracker seems to be about all I can do. Any other ideas are welcome. 2005 Ford F-350 - 2015 Arctic Fox 811
Thanks for the video I plan to purchase soon and wanted to make sure my family is safe at campgrounds. Did anything happen to your ring camera outside when driving down the road?
Hi thank you for the good revue. Just wondering how you get on when you do not have main power hook up on site. how long will the unit stand up for without power. Les in the UK.
So it has been a few months since the door lock install, can you provide an update on how it is working. There are several 1 star reviews on Amazon indicating it quit working after a few weeks.
I plan to do that eventually, but I’ll only endorse products I actually use after I’ve had time to see how they perform and I can give an honest review. On that note, It’s been almost six months since I installed these products and I still highly recommend them!
Buy a wifi extender. Just like the one you have in a home that plugs into an outlet. Connect it to the campground wifi. Not only will it make your connection stronger but all your devices are secure from your extender. Which has its own security. And your own network.
Hi, thanks for sharing this. We are wanting to set up a security system on our RV but we are having difficulty finding a reliable wifi network. What company did you get your wifi through? Thanks in advance.
It’s complicated... 😂 I actually cut that part out of the video because what I’m using right now probably won’t exist in six months. That’s how crazy the unlimited data market is. I’ve got an AT&T data only plan for my primary service, and I keep a Sprint/T-Mobile plan from Calyx as a backup. They’re both legit and truly unlimited, not those 15GB jet pack plans or the shady overpriced plans from the third party resellers. Calyx is slow, but very reliable. The AT&T plan is fast and has the best coverage, but you gotta jump through a few hoops to get it, and they could kill it off whenever they want. That’s why I keep a backup. Sorry I don’t have a better answer. Like I said, it’s complicated, and all the easy solutions are gone now.
With regards to the smoke/CO detector monitoring and false listener alarms, couldn't you just disable live monitoring on the RV system while traveling?
I called Ring and they say they don't sell a motorhome security camera that uses cellular instead of WiFi. I'm a full-time RVer and do boondocking in remote areas and need a security camera that works on a cellular network. Presenly I am in Arizona on BLM land where there is cellular but no WiFi. When your away from your rig all the burgular locks are no good if your not there, and if your security camera cannot text you a message without WiFi.
Looking into installing something very similar to what you did. What do you use for internet? I have not went full time yet. But will once my house sells.
I was wondering about the 24/7 police monitoring and how traveling full time would possibly be an issue. Do you have to adjust your location every time you move so the cops know where to respond? Or is it automatic?
I just go a ring security system & have a Grand Design RV. How did you mount the contact sensors on the baggage slam doors. Can you send a picture. The swing door is easy, but the inside of the RV wall has me worried. Thank you.
Nice set up! So.... with the ring setup. You need to have the trailer connected to wifi somehow, might assume that you use something like a mobile hotspot or free wifi if available. If you are in the boondocks, what happens? Is it all useless at that point?
Without internet, the camera won’t record and it won’t send notifications, but the alarm still functions and the siren will go off if a door is opened without disarming. In our case, we rely on a solid internet connection everywhere we go so it isn’t an issue, but it’s something to consider if you plan to leave your rig somewhere with no cell service. The alarm is still a pretty good deterrent as long as someone is around to hear it. Also, this may work on a mobile hotspot like a jet pack, but I wouldn’t use campground WiFi unless you have a router that relays the signal to your own dedicated network.
