To all future junglists, I think in the future 20+ years ahead, you will look back at an Amigo tune Era. it can do some dope shizzle!

Didn't expect such a big difference soundwise. WinUAE e.g. is so good at emulating the Paula sound that I couldn't tell the difference (compared to my 500). So obviously it can be done better.

I use Amigo at 12bit sounds crunchy like the old Amiga sound, I also have Akaizer to add other fx for even more crunch, time stretch so its nearly dead on.

The Amiga version sounds more driven to me, you can hear the snare tails are louder. Maybe some additional clipping could remedy it to an extent. But the Amiga is also more tonal / midrangey. Interesting. For some applications the flatter sound of Amigo may actually work better in the mix. Like if you’re layering a break that isn’t your main break

Little bit compressed (more in dynamic range) I can hear as well

Might not sound exactly the same but it's a lot of fun! For those that are in need of an Amiga and can't afford it should be really nice. A little tweak here and there and you can make it bangin for sure!

The method I use to automate parameters is right clicking on a particular parameter on a device/effect etc. Then the current value that parameter is set to will populate the column in a track. I do it this way as I find the automation graphic editor very fiddly, the shapes I draw always get messed up somehow and I have to go back over them quite often to make corrections. Regarding the plugin sound, I think it's great - not as crunchy as an Amiga but sounds closer to the S3200.
@pocketrealitty
@pocketrealitty 5 месяцев назад
It’s good enough to capture the essence. If the music is good enough, people aren’t gonna care what the breaks were sampled with, as long as it captures that magic from the 90’s.

Thanks for the comparison! It would be interesting if you could make a high-quality recording of the Amiga's impulse response, and then use that with a convolver plugin following the Amigo. The simplest way to capture the IR would probably to be to play an audio file which contains a peak which is one sample in length at the highest pitch on the Amiga. If the result is useful, you could perhaps consider publishing the IR for others to use as well.
@-ion
@-ion 3 месяца назад
A better way: add the included ReaVerb effect in Reaper, under "Impulse response generation" select "Add" -> "File", cancel the file selection dialog, click "Generate test tone", play that back on the Amiga and record the output, click "Deconvolve" and select the recorded audio file.

No it doesn't sound like an Amiga, it doesn't have that crunchiness that was common on the Paula chip. I like the plugin but I don't think it's possible to emulate that stuff with software on the computer, it never sounds the same, people think it sounds the same... like you pointed out it does sound somewhat weird, if they can improve the sound it's a really good plugin to have around. On Renoise you can't drag a sample into a plugin like you can on any other DAW so it would be useful if the sample loading was better than it is right now.
@atetraxx
@atetraxx 5 месяцев назад
haha. i wouldnt say it doesnt sound like an amiga.. it certainly does. Pretty fuckin close actually. Is it exact? no, but its pretty close and really fuckign cool. I mean stekker would know, he uses amiga to produce a lot of his own music. If i'd trust anyone to make a plugin like this its him. Also, yes its possible to emulate that stuff. You've never messed with the pt2clone?
@farben_
@farben_ 5 месяцев назад
@@atetraxx You can try to emulate a chip but there' a lot of factors that add up. I've done tons of sampling on the Amiga since I was a kid, still have my Amiga sampler here. I bought the plugin mainly to support the effort and hopefully it keeps getting new releases.

I agree the Amiga sounds way more "ballsy" and the Amigo more "middy". If you listen at position 2.55min you can clearly hear it, the snares sound wack. However functions like "Chord" are clearly taken from the "Juno"(Chord Memory) and not the Amiga. Also the Akai Timestretch obviously has nothing to do with the Amiga. Maybe whats mostly "Amiga*ish" is - is the Protracker Layout they ripped off for this plug in ? ;) But i think you can use it on lots of other instruments than Drums and therefore its cool. What would be interesting to hear is how it sounds IF you sample directly from the Amiga and use that Drumloop instead of sampling from a CD Source. Then it should sound the same. If not then they should rework the soundengine ;)

Bizzy would love to see you do a video on Koala sampler. I’ve got my head round it a bit more and it’s really helped me understanding production a bit more, and it’s super accessible using just a phone and headphones if that’s all you’ve got. It’s another tool to use, it ain’t gonna replace a decent hardware sampler as it has about 5% of the functionality of one. There’s nothing in there that you cannot do in hardware. But for a tenner it’s a bargain.

It sounds nothing like an Amiga, its a good laugh for a tena though. Software samplers are a mess, if you just see them as a bit of fun and get one instead of a take away on a Saturday nite then thats fine. If you want a real samplers get an old Akai.
@bazooka4dakill

Yeah its a good tool to use but no software can compare against hardware as its the Converters which makes the sound. As i said before you cant compare it to the real Amiga Hardware but its a cool tool to use as you can use it on all kind of samples and not just on fat drums. It def. has its place to be there and for a tenner its more than fair. I bought it just to support them.

it was not the same source sample though the one on amiga was already preprocessed most likely 3rd gen break + clipped, compressed, EQ'ed before being sampled into the amiga. so comparing it to a clean sample cd break into amigo is not a very accurate comparison

It's a way to over exaggerated version of 8bit And TAL's cleaner S1000 16bit emulation is a bit to tame A real hardware S950 is where its at, especially for drums, it's the perfect middle ground, audibly gritty but not gimmicky so

Sounds fresh B :-) and seems way quicker than doing all the hardware messing..........I sometimes spend hours jamming on me nylon then sampling into the S950 and pitching down and then back into Ableton only to find that the next day I'm not feeling the idea I had the day before lol ! ........What usually happens though is I kind of go of into a whole new idea from bits of the sampling that I did the day before. I kind of like messing with all the hardware stuff as well as inside the DAW as it kind of gives me a break from playing with that mouse ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥......still I might get this plugin, top video dude 🏆

Didnt know you like wearing nylons Ant ;) haha. You little fetish badbwoy. Yeah i hear ya mate. I have so often processed drums on one day, thought they were the superbst killer drums just to realize on the next day that it was way too much. Your ears work differently every day man.However, this plug in is defo worth the money for what it can do. Maybe not to try to get the Amiga sound, but i still have an Amiga 1200 if i want that sound. Anyway. modern Audio processing incl. Automation etc. makes your life way simpler these day even i like to use lots of hardware every time.

I loved Trackers, but couldn't get to grips with making music. However, to keep connected to the scene, I started putting out PD samples under the name "Hash Cake 77." . I was using an Aura sampling cartridge. I can't remember how it happened, but I ended up doing official samples for Octamed. Didn't last long as by the late 90s, folks were migrating to PC. I still love watching anything tracker or octamed related

Amigo sounds great and does the u-law bit compression really well. I bet most commenters have no idea what u-law is and how you should approach it. So don't complain... HW samplers just lost 90% of their value, back to the 2010 prices... 😮

@rikkshow
@rikkshow 5 месяцев назад
@@dariopotenza3962 OK cool. Well, both Roger Linn and Oberheim used u-law in their 8-bit drum machines IIRC. Perhaps something to consider if you want more flavors. Anyhow, I noticed the loop points start clicking after resampling. Probably because the waveform changed a little and the points are no longer at zero crossings. Maybe recalc the zero crossing position and adjust the loop point after each sample rate change? My guess you can probably find a new zero crossing close the where the loop point is, so within +/- a few samples?
