Thank you! I am definitely opting to keep my Mk1 GR wich is already a 350hp rocket. I will further develop the GR according to what Toyota considered "the weak points",. Much respect to Toyota: they DO listen to costumers and improve the products.
Definitely. I just brought a 2022 Power white Curcuit version, great looking car that I'm going to be making some subtle enhancement too over the next couple of years. I've already swapped out the steering wheel for a Alcantara version, next in line is lowering the seats by 35mm, then it will be ride height, spacers and better rear spoiler. I'm happy with the power, but might do stuff in the future if it's gives the car more security and reliability. Generally it's a great looking car that I intend to keep into my old age 😀
I will keep my 2020 GRY, it is stock and I love it. Yes, the display and the low mirror is a bit annoying, but in fact, when sitting in the car the line of sight is not obstructed by the binnacle as it is actually lower than the base of the windscreen... and... the new Dash looks like something out of a 1980's Nissan. I think it's great they included an oil cooler, and more oil capacity for the TC I believe? No one has mentioned price yet? I wonder how much it will be? Remember the 2020 model was over £37K retail here in the UK at the end of '22. Maybe this new one will be £39K?
It's funny cause I went into my car and in my position which is lowest for stock car and quite close to steering wheel, I see wipers and screen doesn't obstruct the view. Also I'm short, and I reach all the buttons without leaning forward 😂 seems the only thing that is nice is mirror replacement.
@@whatsmining9917 I think they will want both, depending on how good cars they prove to be, past isn't always good prediction for future in my opinion!
@@AJClubsport you can now put an order for MK2 in Poland. The price is 214,000 zloty = 50.000 euro + paint 600-670 euro + VIP package 3700 EUR witch include options like heating seats, heating steering wheel, forget rims, JBL 8 speaker system and some other minor features for daily driving which will not improve driving performance. I want to purchase GR Yaris, but with these prices I am wondering if new MK1 (40.000 eur)+ some upgrades would be a better option. Another option would be to go with MK2 without VIP package. What do you think?
I have a 2021 GR Yaris in Precious Black, still a nice looking car. I do like the refinements and face-lift design of the 2024 model, so I am planning to swap.
I would like some more info on LSDs. There is Cusco, ATS, Drexler etc. So many solutions for a difficult topic that you can easily make a mess out of it. Furthermore, this piston thing and bulletproofing the engine. I've heard of this ItalianRP company. Are they any good? And yes you should make a proper video review of the 2024 one. I don't know about journalists but certainly the average Car-RU-vidr doesn't have the engineering knowledge nore the driving talent he thinks he has. And finally, take it to the Nurburgring. That was a long one. Come on algorithm.
Thank you for the video! I was wondering if it really is a variable awd system that it not set like the driver wants. As you pointed out for yourself, I also don't like that the car wouldn't behave the same everytime. I guess with syvec, this could be changed on a 2024 version just as simple as on the older one. I am currently looking for one, if I can, I will buy the older one for a bit cheaper and maybe spend money additionally, or buy a newer one and change the awd settings to not be variable.
Yes, I agree with what you say, happy to help! Also, keep in mind that the new one has better torque splits than the Gen.1 (where I always end up in 50:50). Ultimately it also depends on how you set up your chassis (angles, arms, coilovers and tires). The Syvecs enables you to cater for everything, including changing grip scenarios, having different settings
@@AJClubsport Happy to hear that others think the same! As you were talking about the torque split, i had to smile and thought that guy gets it :D I don't know yet if I like 50:50 or what the second generation has. A few years ago I owned subarus so I guess I would want that feeling back. I guess I will try both first gen and second gen and go with my gut feeling and what interior I like better. Once I drive and feel I need to change, I can still do that.
Yes; GR’s feel very different from Subaru’s and EVO’s, as they are lighter and don’t have overhang weight front & rear. Therefore they are more nervous at their limits, and you don’t have that drift inertia you may have come accustomed to. You can make them much better thru performance mods, but this car will always favour grip driving and small drifts to big ones
I think they opted for the variable torque split, because this way, the center differential can stay longer in the front biased mode and thus reduce the heat it generates. I saw a lot of videos of tuned GR Yaris, where they went into the only front drive mode on track. I would have wished for more cooling there too!
Yes, this is true. Another parallel reason is that they can lock more in certain situations, based on all the other sensor variables, to reduce understeer. All of this amounts to a less natural driver feeling. Just add proper cooling and the Syvecs control unit if you do a lot of track work with wide and sticky tires!
Buying a nearly new GR Yaris MK1 saves you around 15K EUR compared to prices of MK2 here in Germany. Do you think its worth it? I dont go on tracks and with 15K you can modify A LOT.
You are doing the right thing! Actually I just recorded a video about this, that will be released publicly on Thursday: its already online, but only for channel members
Hi, aswesome content here. It really opened my eyes on the more technical side. I am thinking of ordering the new version when it will be available. My question is, how does the car (2020 version)handle bad roads, potholes, speed bumps, etc.? Thank you.
Hello there, cheers! It handles the bad roads quite well, comfortably. The Gen.2 is a bit stiffer. Stock suspension will cavitate on very bad roads, but it is a hood setuy
There ain't electric handbrake, they are still the traditional handbrake even in the AT version, as far as I know, Toyota gazoo has done new tuning or invention specific for the AT trans for those who might need it as their daily, but still may enjoy the rally experience as much as they possibly could. In my opinion it's a good option for some ppl who stays in big city and facing a lot of traffics as their daily. Still I'm gonna to keep my 2021 gry... Still loving it everyday
@@edmundyeoh752 yes, I agree for the daily city use of the AT transmission. The new front end looks like a transformers 😂😂 Just saw the special versions presented at Montecarlo, terrible aesthetics!
Excellent video, as a non GRY owner, I must say it’s a no brainer to buy the new, the mods are so vast it’s more than just a refresh, it’s a different car.
Another super interesting video. So even with the uprated valve springs in the 2024 model, you’re saying the kelford springs would still better? Or are you just referring to the cams? Thanks
Cams 100%, springs most probably… the new head (like the Corolla) has larger exhaust valves/valve seats, so there are some substantial differences, that can be overcome by turning your Gen.1 engine. In real life this counts only when making bery high power, over 380+ bhp on this engine
I love all the changes of the 2024 but WHY did they have to go and ruin the exterior aesthetics as well?? Not to mention the digital speedo which is a personal gripe of mine
Yes, certain things that work could be evolved instead of disruptive. Also the digital dash could had been done better in the HMI design… the dash itself looks very cheap now!
They also said the new 2024 gr Yaris has double A arm rear suspension and as us gr Yaris owners know the rear is multi link . Not true . Researched the old suspension specs for my gr Yaris and it states double A arm also . Again not true .🇦🇺👍 good information
The new switches location behind the gear selector on the new flat dash is a move backwards me thinks . My 2022 has those same switches parallel to the hand brake . So I could find them every time without looking . I hold the hand brake as though I’m going to pull on it but then reach out towards my seat with my thumb and they just are under my thumb . Like wise air con . Grab the hand brake like stated point forward index and I’m on target every time . 🇦🇺👍 and ❤️ these videos .
They are stronger for sure! It’s an informed guess based on many small information, and industrial costs: they already improved the same engine for the GRC, why do a third iteration?
Great video man! I have a 2020 GRY, and now I know the diffs between the cars. I'm not yet sure if I want to swap to new but thanks for sharing your info. Hope to hear more over time :-) I subscribed :-)
@jeanclaudebertoni6262 non ho riscontri ufficiali ma, dovrebbe averlo come optional, uguale alla Mk1. Era solo raro da trovare, montabile in post montaggio
I haven’t seen the car in person yet, have reported the information shared by Toyota: it could be s larger exchanger or an additional cooler. Do you have any more first hand news?
@@AJClubsport As far as I can see into some videos, they have into the front bumper an extra coolant radiator on the right and on the left a ATF cooler for the automatic gearbox.
Would be interesting to know that they addressed the oil starvation issues under hard braking and in right hand corners? Lots of broken rods on cylinder 1 for track drivers....
Sorry I thought I had posted this but must have messed up. From litchfields' website Our fully re-calibrated engine management system, provides significant increases to both power and torque. This customised ECU mapping uses the latest Ecutek software which we have helped develop and it releases considerably more power than standard or ‘off the shelf tunes’ and the process is straight forward and involves us installing our bespoke connect straight onto the ECU which offers fast programming or the option to revert back to standard.
Remember this is not DCT, this is a slush box with a torque converter. Manual all day long!! Just look at how popular the Auto GT86 is compared to the manual.
It has to be manual for me. We have a Model Y for the family car and it's dead boring just getting in an pressing the accelerator. I enjoy my Megane RS a lot more simply because it's manual. I owned one of the 77 ST205 GT4s that came to Australia back in the mid 90s, so the Yaris really appeals. I'll learn to live with the dash. In the end it's about having fun driving the car, not staring at the dash. Great video Adriano. I've been working my way through all of your older videos. They are really well presented.
I do think that the AT is from AISIN, not from ZF... Maybe I'm wrong... Anyways, I pre-ordered one for myself today. Just have to sell my "old one" now. 🥹
