How no company has made the frame 3d printed to include with their boots is beyond me. This should be an super easy install if that was the case. I received a letter for a recall about this shift knob that says they are installing an improved version. Dealership didn’t want to give me the new part Idk why they need to install it with their own hands, even if I bring my old broken shift knob, they want me to actually reinstall the failed OEM part so they can work on the car
My hands sweat so bad sometimes that alcantera would last a month or two tops lol. I ordered the air leather yellow/black shift knob for mine. Should stand out and really pop against the contrasting grey/black/red interior. Good video, I think pulling by the boot rather than the frame was a safer option, I will do it that way too.
Are the dimensions/size of the BFI boot the same as the OEM? From photos I’ve seen of BFI knob with OEM leather boot, the boot looks bunched up and not very good compared to the BFI boot. Maybe because it’s alcantara and more pliable? Also, would it be worthwhile to remove the staples for better adherence of the strip to the plastic or did it not really matter?
No the dimensions aren’t exactly the same the bfi fits better all together and looks and feels so much better (because it’s better quality) and it didn’t really matter the adhesive is very very playable so it more or less molded itself around the boot retainer!
@@octane_mediaAwesome, thanks man! Yeah, the BFI boot definitely looks better than OEM boot in pics with after market knobs, so that makes sense. Just double checking. Thanks for the reply. Was curious if removing the staples was worth the hassle, but good to know it’s not necessary. Enjoy the new shifter!
So far yes , keeping the suede clean is a bit of a chore but as long as I use my cleaner about once a week it stays pretty clean and it feels great in the hand.
Well we’ve got one of each I just prefer the manual gear box it’s what I’ve always driven for the most part . The dsg definitely feels quicker atleast with power delivery!
