I love my STI. It’s great on a twisty mountain road. I can take my wife and daughter and friends in it. It has a big trunk and the rear seats fold down so you can fit four wheels and four tires in it. But I wish it had about 50-100 more hp from factory to keep up with other cars in its price range. It’s my daily so I’ve kept the motor stock, and I have a motorcycle for when I want to go fast. But if I could have 100 more hp RELIABLY I would really like that.

Meaning, even though most cars that come with a turbo or boxer engine (or most Subaru's ) are inherently less reliable that doesn't make them not reliable overall. Also, what's wrong with being a Subaru fanboy (I'm not but I get the appeal of being one)? There is one more thing though.. they make a haha noise BBBBBRRAAPPP Sorry everyone is proving you wrong

wrx/sti tip. put the seatbelt in and out 20 times within 30 seconds to disable the seatbelt warning chime & the dash warning.

Bro.. you forgot about the “subie wave!” That’s the best part about owning a turbo Subaru bro! 😂 I drive an 18 WRX and it’s a great daily/grocery getter.. head turner, sounds great.. just gotta keep an eye on the oil levels like any other car! (Well maybe a little bit more then a normal car..) it’s treated me well for about 20k miles so far! I just need a deal on some coil overs, know where I can get any?! 🤣

Can relate i owned a 2001 Subaru Forester s turbo manual SF5 for 10 lovely months done well in snow till the rear subframe rotted off ! Sold it last week used too get Subaru wave constantly weather it was a forester impreza legacy old or new will be getting another thats been undersealed.

Subaru's aren't unreliable, people are unreliable. You can tell the STI and a person to stay in one place and the person will walk away. Much like telling the person not to mod the car, but he still does anyway, poorly, and then calls the car or company shit. This has been an ongoing cycle ever since the WRX hit US shores 20 years ago. The denial is real, nothing is new.

Amen, they do have a few weaknesses but a weakness can be avoided when handled properly. Problem is way too many people do things wrong and expose the weakness. It's like going out in a blizzard naked and blaming your body for getting sick.

Bought a ‘13 about a year ago. Did all the maintenance(spark plugs, radiator, timing belt, all fluids) along with a cylinder 4 cooling mod. Then suspension(coils, LCA, end links, sway bars, rims and tires). Anticipating more power soon but overall a solid platform. Wouldn’t mind picking another one up

2021 STI and still on stock rims but coilovers are sitting in the box on the floor. Hmmm...Maybe after my Stage 2 with Flex parts arrive? 💪 Those rims are nice...just the horror stories about fake rims and cracking, driving on freeway, etc...Soon I hope...so much to consider next

Great video. The interior got a big improvement in 2018. Carplay and the RA block in 2019...so 1 19+ STI is the way to go if you can get one.....my opinion. It is sort of a stage 2 from teh factory with a warranty. Note, subaru lets you get a warranty up later if the original is still in place.....full oem bumper to bumper coverage is possible (no engine mods if you do this pretty much though). I've never had anyoen go "nice subie bro" in 3 years. Just sayin.....and it is a very nice subie bro.

I own a 09 wrx with over 200k miles and it still runs great. No real engine mods its been reliable but at this point I don't to risk anything by modding it lol. My next car when I can afford it would be the 15+ model STI

So I have 19wrx and I’ve been torn whether I should get a 18-19 wrx used, maybe new.. but idk if I wanna buy new anymore.. used a good idea? And what milage is good to look for? I have like 10k miles on mine lol… Or do I hold on to it and wait for the FA24? Or do I get the EJ hold on to it and watch the FA24? Keep in mind I daily it however I do not drive a lot just to work and grocery stores and then fun on weekends. Primarily drive my wife’s forester.. help. Is it worth it? Looking for something I’d be happy long term.. even considering like onxy xt outback or wilderness. I need a Subaru therapist ASAP haha.

I think I got spoiled after owning a modded Evo X MR and a stock GSR. My STI paired with Ohlins and whiteline suspension feels whatever to me. Plus I miss the twin scroll and wide wheels I had on my Evo X. I had CE28N on my Evo and now CE28SL on my STI but they looked better on the Evo.

Honestly those that run OTS tunes are asking for a rod knock. They complain about dam dropping and all these issues and it could all be avoided if they got an e tune or a pro tune. But love the video Dakota. Quality content.

I ran a Stage 2 OTS tune on my 2019 WRX from MAPerformance for over a year and had no issues. Been running a etune from Ambot for couple months and still haven't had any issues.

@@FunTimeWithSouls ots tunes are just not good. Most people that have issues it is usually related to using ots maps and then not putting the appropriate parts associated with the ots map. All in all the safer mod path is to have an e tune or pro tune and either one of those you can run various parts from different brands rather than strictly from cobb or maperformance.

@@ranran2218 well of course a pro tune/etune will be better but there are some OTS tunes that are not garbage. Ambot even offers a OTS tune. MAPerformance tune is pretty good also. Cobb on the other hand ehhhhhhhh. Yes a OTS tune is just a one size fits all kinda thing but they have come a long way then they were in the past.

@@FunTimeWithSouls they usually are the issue. Maperformance ots is super aggressive as far as tunes go. And ots maps aren't a one size fits all its a one size fits one size. That's why you have to run the exact brand parts associated with the ots maps. Cobb, maperformance for example.

I kept my 2015 STI on stock tune for 75k miles but added an IAG AOS, cylinder 4 cooling and a bigger radiator. Finally got it pro tuned for an intake at 95k and never used a cobb tune. I didnt own a Cobb AP until my dyno day. A week before my rod knock, I added an ETS TMIC. At 105k, my turbo seals failed and burned up majority of my oil causing rod knock. I also had a very minor head gasket leak and oil leak near filter that I was going to address within a couple months. So I needed a new short block, turbo and downpipe. My girlfriend was driving the car and suspected rod knock and called me at home. I blew her off and next thing she on the side of the road. Cost $16k but Subaru of America covered half. I ran OEM oil the last four years and when I got rod knock, it was my first time using Motul 5W40 oil. Didnt want to put an RA Block or IAG since I drive the car too much and needed it running again. These cars are very sensitive to mods and are prone to heat soak so you need to be careful driving it hard and ensure you have proper fueling and a good pro tune. I wouldn't recommend these cars for big power but do great for daily driving.

Oof shouldn’t go down pipe without fueling mods on the VA chassis . Most of the people that blow up don’t mod their cars properly . The biggest positive of such an old platform is that it’s so well known so these mistakes are easy to avoid . Treat your EJ’s nicely 😕

probably the smarter thing to do, although I bet the 2019+ will hold their value a lot better vs the 2015-18 just due to the Type RA block and upgraded internals, and that its the last version with the subaru rumble.

I picked up a 2019 STI with 9k miles, clean title, out Miami that came off a lease and save 6k. I had a 2016 wrx before that. I LOVE my car. I honestly have never had any issues with either of them. If you’re under warranty then I see no reason to fret buying one now. That is unless you’re going to do a bunch of aftermarket stuff to and void the warranty 😂 then just make sure to get a PROPER tune. No reason to spend upwards of 40k on a car to then use an OTF tune. That’s like taking a Ferrari to a jiffy lube.

ive been on Intake, catback, and catless dp for 3 years on my sti with a protune. my tuner is well know in the subaru world and he said i would be fine but i wont be making the power im suppose to.

@@XxArmedGamerxX Thats the problem though. The current gen STI with an intake and turbo back on stock fuel has to be undertuned by the protuner in order to be safe. So its a waste of money. Just leave a couple of those things stock or upgrade the fuel system to actually make it worth spending the cash.

@@MrDavidchuck I didn’t want to push it more than 410 whp but my set up is capable of around 550 whp I got the fp black turbo , invidia catless downpipe , on e85 , front mount intercooler, 1300 cc fuel injectors, upgraded fuel pump , tgv deletes , and many other support mods , I’m also on the new RA block

Do note if you plan to get a new acessport you are looking more at $600 - $700 not $500. Either way if you buy an sti to do more than keep it basic you need to have a lot of change.

I'm my younger days (I'm 35) i always wanted an STi or Evo, i finally got to drive one of each at like 23 years old and was disappointed. It was everything you need in a car and nothing you want, but i still had an itch for a Turbo AWD vehicle. Looked into a 335 x-drive and never turned back! After my 2nd 335 i decided i wanted a faster more reliable version and settled in a 340. Super easy to tune fun as hell to drive the only downside is it's little expensive bit totally worth the $.
