Unpopular opinion, I consider ken to be the best rage artist in Opium. Honestly ken carson is actually extremely versatile, especially his unreleased stuff, and I think fashion habits highlights how he can rap in different ways on different beats.
Good video, I looked at the full iceberg and you hit most spots, the two things I think you should add are surf gang and the anti world collective. Sybyr from anti world in particular is extremely important and unique, he's very underappreciated and if he didn't have mental health issues that affected his output, he'd probably be one of the most respected in the game. Also happy to see you included lil soda boi, he's one of my all time favorite artists and easily the best out of the hinoni wave, he inspired a lot of styles including hyperpop
Ngl this is the best thing to do as the underground is always growing and many names are blowing up and in the come up, there could be more names but good video
Love that u doing an iceberg g u already know I'm ready for pt 2 and shoutout to all the prod of these rappers that helped push their sounds to where we are now
the guy in the 2nd comment probably meant very very unknown artists like artists that are so underground that no one knows them except for a few people like their fans etc also so glad diego money is in there lmaooo he fire asl
Bones is the best artist of all time. Sesh. The goat. He’s the main reason why I didn’t stop making music. I will forever be a underground legend just like him. Sesh.
@@nrg6245 true he’s never switched up, he’s evolved as a musician, tried diversifying and experimenting with his sound but never changed who he was or how he did things. Always kept it independent DIY and never sold out or big dogged his supporters and day 1s. Ima check yo shit is it on YT under NRG? I’m in my 30s but grew up involved in the hardcore and underground rap scene, and it was crazy to see the lines blur between them until they were completely nonexistent like it is today
17:40 ish, tracy didnt inspire peep to start rapping, Nedarb introduced the 2 when peep lived in Pasadena, but peep had already been rapping since he was in HS in new york
luckis appeal comes from his relatability and how hes one of the few artists that doesnt hide anything, one of the few people that unintentionally glorify drug use just cuz of how the music sounds, its very easy to believe and even empathize with many things he talks about cuz hes not emo hes not gangster hes just literally himself
essentially its more than fw luckis music, he is the music if you fw luckis music you fw him as a person and vice versa thats why so many fans feel so close to him
Looking deep down in the iceberg I recognized K-9 unit and some of the other artist in that tier. Looking forward for the next part as they were a huge part of my junior high school years aside of sybyr 🔥💯
autotune just does something crazy to Ken's voice that i can't get enough of, he kinda reminds me of NAV in that way. i love his music, definitely my favorite member of Opium besides Carti
just watched this to see if sgp is on this list, gadly it will become a series fr, sgp needs more recognition, like fr, hes already pretty known by name if you are deep on this underground shit, but im saying he needs chief keef type of recognition, hes the most influential artist of our generation, to yung lean, black kray, to the entire florida scene, to cartis baby voice and this vamp shit, to shit the rap community wears today, fr you can do an entire series on the influence of this guy over the years
$B might as well be a cover band for 3-6 & BONES/Team Sesh.. what I can say about $B, they figured out the formula to the underground aesthetics, the emo drug addicted edgy rapper not from Memphis, but inspired by the sound & imagery Memphis rappers during 3-6, Tommy Wright, and Dj Zirk created..
I’m learning more than what I thought about the underground, but one artist that we needa be gatekeeping is Midwxst and i have been listeningto for a few years, that’s how I discovered the underground (my unpopular opinion)
Soulja boi started this anime wave when he was still in Ocean Gang (now disbanded I think) by that time, soulja made songs about goku, talk abouf vegeta and shi but for the underground context I think Josip On Deck paved the way, the real ones kno look him up he's not even on yt no more but you can look up in Internet Archive website Josip On Deck Mai Waifu and come back here telling me wrong, that was on 2013, bruh be talking playin Touhou and shi bruh was ahead his time RESPECT⭐
Nice vid, I know you said you were not gonna remember everybody but I just wanted to say that maybe uzi and trippie should have been on this list. Trippie nd carti influenced rage and uzi made his own sound which has influenced this new soundcloud generation too. The vids are nice tho keep up the grind
@@dumdum-wo3oc Uzi was underground at one point he is a underground goat. Carti is not underground but he put him at the top. So as X. Uzi is an underground and soundcloud legend.
@@somtraa He used to be nd carti aint underground either . Carti jus an underground goat and uzi was even bigger then carti in the underground. Uzi is a goat and was the biggest soundcloud artist on soundcloud.
better be some of the underground og’s here fr, yk we talm bout that kirblagoop, ruben slikk, sgp, chxpo, zchronik, keenaza, rushhy bandxz, traash vampire etc.
@@UVXCX some of them do icl but bladee is an amazing artist his lyricism and his ability to make very emotional yet not corny music (if that makes sense) is so fire 😭 literally if im in ANY mood theres a bladee song to match it plus his works with ripsquadd and whitearmor (some of the best prods oat imo) is insane
homie fuck the comments😭 There are hardly any content creators even approaching this topic because of how deep it truly goes. It’s impossible to please everybody, but I for one appreciate the attempt at all! Just got past the intro and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Tracy/Yung Bruh and Black Kray.
This is a cool video, but if I got 1 piece of constructive criticism, I feel like there shouldn't been maybe 2 additional segments. One quickly going a lil more into the various collectives that have been a big part of the scene + maybe just naming the members; nothing too in-depth like GBC/THRAXXHOUSE, Buffet Boys, Sad Boys, Drain Gang, G59, SHWB, Awful Records... etc (some of which u did mention). Also another one mentioning some of the RU-vid channels that have also been a big part of helping these artists get more known within the scene like デーモンAstari, NxrthNxrthPhvnk, HAUNTXR, ELEVATOR, TRASH 新 ドラゴン Overall, a good video, tho!
Coming up on 7 months on the video going live, and about that guy who asked “what do you call someone who are underground from the underground,” I wonder if he meant the…whatever percentage of artists that it is that you likely wouldn’t have heard of without Bandcamp’s underground hip hop section because that’s literally where all their music is (like not even one thing on Spotify or SoundCloud)
Realized that you mentioned on the Part 3 iceberg that you were doing a part 4. So yeah, I’d say what you’d call someone who’s “underground from the underground”…basically might be either in a part 4 or god forbid if this ever went into a part 5 or part 6, because you’re talking about the people who have basically no following consistent following but they have some niche approach to hip hop and they’ve probably gotten their name somewhat out there Or again, people you wouldn’t have otherwise heard of without Bandcamp. Possibly Reddit
Im doing an interview with a fan of underground rap and his experiences with the genre. If anyone here has any suggestions for good questions that someone from the outside might not think of, i would love to hear your suggestions!
The GBC and Bladee slander hurted me. Peep, Tracy, and Wicca Phase are my top 3 emo rappers unless kray counts as emo rap then he would replace wicca phase if he counts
Bones and Raider Klan fr fr and his latest album he rapped on a Detroit beat And wit Raider Klan Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti were influnced by them oh and Playboi Carti tweeted bout Bones before, Tay K said Bones is his fav white rapper, and Lil Peep and X both rapped over TeamSESH beats then we can't forget A$AP Rocky sampling Dirt by Bones (new drums but kept his the chorus/hook) Bones imo the hardest out if only as much ppl know about him fr and your opinion on Xavier Wulf it really depends he really one of the first to rap about anime in a way where it's a vibe and shit plus his early beats after Ethelwulf he had hella anime samples and video game samples plus he the goat of the underground car scene Then you also forgot how Black Smurf helped $B
Who ever wrote "GBC (ew)" needs to be put in a psych ward Edit: jus saw the part where you said your favorite rapper is bones. He's my favorite too and I used to hate gbc because I thought they were bones clones, but eventually I realized they're wearing their inspirations on their sleeve. You should try listening to some more of their music. Especially Wicca Phase Springs Eternals song with Bones
you don't have to edit it🤗gbc don't deserve the hate. he be hating white rappers for all i see. nedarb, horse head and jayyeah was WorkingOnDying of their era, they be feeding the whole gbc their emo beats till they choked, gbc are goated fr for this plus he be downtalking about tracy bet he didn't know that yung bruh goated, like nobody downtalk yung bruh. rip yung bruh comment are the undaground tradition from the start yet he be doubting tracy influence to underground. gbc till i die🥀💔rip peep
