Bought mine in early 2010… still going strong in 2022 on the SAME battery. Has been all over the world, hundreds of swimming pools, several seas and oceans. Skiing wipe outs, mountain biking falls, toddlers, DIY, and Hardly a scratch. All for €20. I like the retro styling and have big old wrists too. Love this thing.

I got into them with a CA53W calculator watch I use for work and calculating hours per store as well as my bed time. As a soda vendor who often gets to look for abandoned change under self checkouts and coin star machines I hope to buy a dress watch casio for about $15 - $20 for Christmas uwu
This is my favourite cheap digital watch. It might not be a looker but it literally has all the information you could possibly need visible at a glance.
It took you long enough to come to your senses and recognize the true beauty of the W800. For me, in water maybe 5 days/week, it is the 100 M WR. I dumped the resin band and with the help of a little silicon spray, muscled a nato behind the very tight spring bars. Works great.
I love this watch. I've bought mine around the time my son was born and it's been with me ever since. 10 years later and my trusty W800H is still going strong with its original battery. I had to replace the watchband once, but aside of that it's pretty indestructable. A while ago my son wanted some watch like that too. I showed him a couple of digital watches and he immediately picked the F91W.
Nice! I had the silver metal case/strap version of the F91W (I forgot the actual model designation) back in '92 as a 12yo.......loved that thing. Was way better than the Lorus basic alarm chrono I had before it. I'm still a huge fan of Casio. (Also of Timex)

This watch has two hidden functions that can be unlocked using a soldering iron. A timer (one-shot and continuous!) and five alarms. To unlock them, it's necessary to disassemble the module and switch two jumpers on the PCB (their exact positions depend on the version, there are at least two versions).
Hi I dropped my w217h on the tile floor and now the alarm and beeps are almost inaudible. Any ideas on diy fixing would be appreciated if you can spare the time.
@@Bear-1080 This problem has at least three different causes. 1. Broken piezo beeper (or detached from the case back): replace the case back. 2. Bad contacts between the module and the case back: check and align them. 3. Broken inductor coil in the sound circuit: replace it by a coil from any other similar watch. Typical parameters: 20..40 mH, 120..240 Ω. To check, take a multimeter in resistance mode and check the sound output contact against the module frame, you should see 120..240 Ω.
I love my W800. I love the design because of the 4 pusher setup. The 100 m water resistance is awesome. It's my pool watch and my shower watch. It's amazingly comfortable, so it's my sleeping watch as well. I love this watch.
This W800H has been my main watch for the last 10 years (bought in 2010). Still running on the original battery. It has been in all kinds of situations (heat, snow, sea, sand, rivers, dirt, mud...) and I banged it uncountable times and never broke. It might be a bit ugly, but definetly it worths every cent it costs, if you're looking for functionality and value for money you can't go wrong with this watch.
it's the reason i bought a dw290t instead. that, plus the countdown timer also shows the actual time, which is more useful than the countdown on the dw5600
I have owned one since i was around 10 years old. After 7 years of putting it through every situation possible it still runs and looks good. The fact that this watch still runs baffles me, especially considering the fact that it costs around the same as a meal.
I’ve had one of these for about 3 years as one of my first forays into watch collecting and I still absolutely love it. It’s very easy to read and the water resistance is a good feature over the F91W. Haven’t gotten any complements on its looks, but it’s been a great functional watch for me.
I put a strap from a W218 on mine and it improved the whole appearance out of sight. It now seems more integrated, solid and more like a mini square gshock. It also complements the thickness of the watch better than the original. Best beater watch ever ...
This is actually one of my favourite Casio watches. I've had mine for ages, it's perfect for when im working, you can also do a very simple, clever hack or modification on it as well, which i did, which adds the timer function to the modes on the watch. There's also a more complicated modification that i didn't do, which adds more alarms to the modes, I also bought a SKMEI 1335, with a Black stainless steel bracelet, because the bracelet fits and matches this Casio perfectly. When you modify a watch like this, it does make you quite attached to the watch.
Love my W800H, for me the most of the G-Shocks are a bit too big and I think this bridges the gap between a square and the F91. I opted to purchase the model with the yellow/gold striping and modified it by adding a nice 2-piece olive nylon band and played with the module to add countdown timer functionality. All in all the watch looks great (that band helps it a LOT), has lots of functionality, offers good water resistance, and has a 10 year battery life. SOLD.
I've got one of these for 9 years - still going strong. Used it for the gym, running, swimming & general everyday wear. Another feature (that isn't really a "feature" but is something that gets overlooked) is that as the date is set using the year: you never have to correct the day or day of the week once the date has been set - haven't changed it for over 9 years unlike some of my other Casios
I got one of these,it's pretty functional and i like it. I was considering getting the classic F-91W but i happened to find this one and to me it looks like an upgrade of that same watch. So i was like ''yeah for a couple more bucks i'll get it'' and so far i have been enjoying this watch since then.
There's a mod you can do on this particular model, where you remove a blob of solder on the circuit board, and it unlocks the countdown timer function. There's a video about it on RU-vid somewhere. I tried it on mine, and it works. I was initially concerned about compromising the water resistance by opening it up, but then realized I didn't care.
This is my favorite watch! It hasn't left my wrist for years, and it's been on many adventures. I'd step up to a G-Shock, but they are giant. (And I'm not going to wear a model that says "Baby" on it.) The snooze alarm is gold!
I picked one of these up a couple weeks ago. Was only like $14 with a coupon on Amazon. I was considering the f91w, but was glad I discovered this model thanks to a video from Teddy. Also grabbed one for my dad and it fits his 8 inch wrist.
I'm "rediscovering" this review after buying one of these about a year ago and then chucking into a drawer. Recently pulled it out and gave it some wrist time. Summary - I like it more than my square G-Shock! Bigger display means it's easier to read. Thicker case means the buttons are physically larger and SO MUCH EASIER to operate than my square G. Finally, it's easy to toss onto a cheap 18mm NATO strap. Looks a bit Big Head Todd intially but it grows on you.
I love my w800h and surprised people dont like it's simple, clean practical look. I use it weekly in the pool and over summer in the ocean, and never let's me down. Great video, keep them coming.
I always thought this was a better looking alternative to the FW-91. I like the bigger numbers and how they look, more legible. No BS on the screen, everything is useful information. The day is big and clear and the date right at the bottom, no button pushing needed. Also this doesn't look like a toy on my wrist like the FW-91. Perfect watch, wish it was as cheap for me here in the Netherlands, now €35.-
I bought this Casio watch from the Black Friday sale last week for only $10. Yay!!😊battery life and durability are extraordinary in Casio watches. because I have been using Casio watches since 80s and I still appreciate their products all the time.
I have the W-96 H. It uses the same module but has square pushers and silver trim around the case. I prefer the look but it's only 50m . Thanks for the compliment on my SKX. Your modding videos were a great help when I was getting started. Cheers!
By the way, W-96 also can be unlocked. More, it can display the auto-repeat timer, but in a very unusual way: as a separator between two lines on its display.
This is an awesome little watch. I love the straight business approach. All the functions you really need and I kind of like the look. But this is more of a function over form choice for me.
Beauty indeed lies in the eyes of the beholder. I thoroughly enjoy this watch. And being a small guy with a small wrist, the extra long strap was my only grudge. I swapped that for a f91 strap and I’m happy as a clam. Thanks for the review.
Always love a Casio review. I rescued a scuffed and strapless W-800H from the box we keep in the cupboard of Our Boys' Old Casios Whose Straps Have Perished, gave it a good polywatch and stuck it on a black and red NATO strap (which brings out the red in the dial lettering nicely). Slightly ungainly on a NATO but nice to have revived it and I enjoy slobbing around the house in it every now and then.
Recently picked it up on a whim, as I was shopping for a first watch for my kid and this just appealed to me. I have one of the newer color ways with the gray case and quite enjoy the design and styling. I really love the layout of the watch face and display. It's just the right kinda busy and the spacing makes handy at a glance. My wrist size is ballpark 7" and I do think you'd have a hard time with a smaller wrist, as you'd likely see the band wrapping around almost to the lugs. That being said, it's very comfortable, the right mix of 80's retro and modern for me, and a solid set of features. 100% agree that the main improvement would be multiple alarms and the countdown timer built in. I paid $22 currently and would pay $30 for those extra features to be included, but that's definitely a want and not a need.
This is one of my 2 casio's....I love the large simple comprehensive display. The light plus the water resistance makes this the watch I sleep in and shower with in the morning.
I think the W800 is the best value of all the cheap Casios. It has a 10 year battery, 100 m water resistance, a big clear display, it fits perfectly on my 7" wrist, it is super comfortable and I paid under $15. I do not think that combination of features and Casio quality can be matched at that price. I will wear my W800 daily this summer and wear my trusted F-91W in the winter as it fits under long sleeve shirts much better.
I got this specifically for the gym, because it has metal buttons. Before this little guy I used a gshock (g shock gd100ms), but with time the buttons I pushed the most were ruined (you can see now a dent, they're not flat anymore) because they're made out of plastic. This watch may not be as durable overall, but it definitely has its purpose to me.
I'm brand new to the world of watches. I think many people my age (30) don't see the need for one anymore because we have phones with us 24/7. However I bought one of these to stick on the shoulder strap of my hiking pack. I couldn't be more impressed. I got mine on eBay for $12 shipped. I ended up buying a f-91w as well! I wear it daily
Have it and it's one of my favourite Casio's 👍👍 It's tough and really like the large push buttons. I took off the plastic buckle and replaced it with a metal one,also put a extra band loop.It feels solid on my wrist.
As a police officer I need a rugged and reliable watch with a good back light. My Casio w800-h has been in multiple scraps and just keeps coming back for more. I’m also a watch nerd. I like all of the fancy, sparkly, mechanical watches. Love them in fact, but this little Casio is one I’ll never get rid of!

The PCB in this watch is actually really easy to mod. I have one and have enabled the 5 alarms and the countdown timer. It was really simple to perform and now this watch is cheap with about the most functions of any of my cheap watches I own. I agree, while it is not the most aesthetically pleasing watch, with a little bit of work it is one of the best watches I now own. Plus, there are mods out there to really make this watch pop. :)

Picked one up yesterday for 14 bucks and change at amazon - we're past the Douglas Adams "think digital watches are kind of neat idea" stage and progressed to produce a 15 dollar watch that will last for a decade stage.
I watch Jody because he is the only youtuber who allows me to buy one more watch without going broke. I also have an 8 inch wrist and I can wear almost any Casio while the two luxury watches I own don’t fit with the standard bracelet.
I mean, they say 10 year battery. I got a Casio Ana Digi when I was 8, wore it every day for 11 years with plenty of fiddling with features. I still haven't changed the battery. Probably varies per model. Great watch (AW-80 btw)
You may have seen there's now a negative display version (W-800H-1BVES in Europe). Took delivery of it yesterday. The negative display (while having all the usual practical disadvantages) suits it well: gives the whole thing quite a sleek, blacked-out look, which mitigates the slightly cluttered display and makes the whole unit look more integrated. Mind you, I've always been fond of this model anyway.
Incidentally, looks like Casio are going through a phase of releasing negative display versions of their classic watches: there's also a blacked-out CA-53W. Hopefully they'll release a negative display AE-1200 - that could look pretty awesome…
This should be the first digital Casio buy instead of the F-91. The large display, excellent backlight, 10 yr battery and 10 bar is (2x) more value than the F-91 at the same price.
*Solar powered* AQS800 and AQS810 series for $30-$40 are very good watches. Analog hands. 100 meters. 5 alarms. Countdown timer. World time. Again I say it is *SOLAR* powered. Jody, as a Casio fan, you need to check these out.
Bought one of these as a holiday watch and it works perfectly for that and as a watch you can wear while gardening and diy. Those "unecessary" indents I believe will take protective bull bars? I bought additional rubber keepers for the long strap. Haven't regretted the purchase for a second and as you say cheap as chips!:-)
Here's a Casio I recently bought and I don't see any reviews on RU-vid, the W753 Digital Sports Watch with Moon and Tide Data. Also a unique compass function. It tells you at what degrees the sun should be at, align the sun to the degree markers on the bezel of the watch, then north should be at the 12 o'clock. 100 meters WR and only $19.95 US dollars. I like using it fishing on the Texas Gulf of Mexico.
I recently needed a watch for work with a big clear display and this seemed ok on paper but when I saw irl it I wasn't keen so I got the W96H-1AVES which looks a lot better and is very clear but only 50m water resistant. The W96H-1AVES is currently (summer 2023) £10.99 at Argos. The AE1200 was also on my list but had too much of the display taken up by things I didn't need.
Interestingly recently I find myself browsing through RU-vid watching reviews of cheap Casio watches, that was initiated by F-91w. So many to choose from, you just have to do quite a research to get what's best for you; the legibility provided by the backlight, the availability of countdown timer, the water resistance, world time, solar etc.
I think I have had this watch for 8 years. Original battery. No scratches to speak of. Very accurate timing. The only thing is that it is very difficult to find wrist bands that have a life span of more than 5 months.
I've been having this Watch since 2019 and the band strap lasted me since then. Sadly the Strap band broke 3 weeks ago and now I fixed it and added a Leather Strap, It's probably the Best Watch I've owned. 5:03 PM }|{ 3//18//2021

I bought one back in June.. absolutely love the big numbers..and 100m wr you can't go wrong unfortunately in Ireland they are€40 ,have seen on internet for about £22 from UK... with postage and conversion 30ish... Rhys work watch in an alternative to the G-Shock

My 10 year old son wears this watch daily and loves it. It really doesn't look overly large on him either. It has withstood typical playground warfare quite well. Now to find him a durable, cheap analog... with some pedigree of course.
I think it looks quite nice, and great value! The snooze facility would be useful :) I wish Casio would add an option to change the date to the European way, day first then month. Cheers, Jodie!
Have you ever thought about checking out the Casio SGW-600H? It has a ton of features crammed into it, such as a compass and thermometer, and if you look around you can get it for around $30-$37. About twice the price of a W800H, but with a lot more bang.
I have the SGW-300H. It has the altimeter/thermometer/barometer. Not so great. Put it this way, using the altimeter and thermometer (which I have regularly calibrated) I am currently 40 meters below the Coral Sea and about to die of hypothermia. Glub, Glub, Glub, brrrrr.
@@shanewright2772 Lol. True I wouldn't trust what the thermometer is telling me, but the compass on it is has been pretty accurate for me. Also I just like the layout of the watch.
you can mod this model to get a countdown timer. It's pretty easy if you are comfortable with soldering. Just need to remove some solder from a jumper on the main board.

Band wasnt long to me, didnt come close to fitting my 8.5" wrist - had to use metal Jays & Kays adapters that allowed me to use a black 22mm band that looks and feels WAY better than the cheap casio strap, last MUCH longer too. Far as the watch I love my 800H, lots of info at a glance and decent size digits.
I like the way the 800H looks and I have the wrist for it. At my age, I like the time displayed in a larger font size. What I dislike about this one (and a few like it) is that it displays the year. Firstly, I don't need that reminder past January 15th or so. Secondly, this watch is likely to outlast the module - I think the calendar is set through 2039 (?). Then the year will be wrong on the display. Unless I'm missing something. I know that, at this price, who cares. But I kinda do...
