Nice video on one of my favorite saxophones. I believe Sonny Rollins payed a Buescher Big B horn for some time. Mine is a mid-60’s 400. I love that horn.

Guten Tag, David. In your discussion of Buescher tenors, you omitted the mid-1920s saxophones. Maybe you could say something about them and play a couple of tunes to demonstrate their sound---especially with the TrueTone, 1925.

Guten Tag William, basically the True Tone is very related to the 400-Model. The 400 sounds wider - maybe the wide bell is the reason for that.

Thank you David for these videos, I enjoy comparisons and was surprised how good the Beuscher sounds with your setup; with the insane tip size and thick reed combo you sound best on a brighter horn like this one! I don't see many people playing vintage Beuschers around my way, I wonder why?

Thank you so much for your comments, Ken! I really can‘t explain why the Bueschers aren’t more popular today. I think they are very versatile and good to handle in almost any musical situation.

You don't see a lot of people playing vintage Buescher 400s today because the hard to find. David mentioned intonation problems. I don't know yet. I just brought a '49 TH&C home last week. It is a blast (pun intended) to play. I haven't got out the tuner yet to see how in tune it plays. My other tenors are a King Zephyr and a Martin, I think the Buescher is going to be my new favorite.

Thank you for your comment! You have to listen closely: the Buescher 400 doesn’t have intonation-iuesses in general, but you have to be careful if you play SUBTONES with the loose embrochure in the lower register. Have fun with your “new” Buescher 400!

I would love to be rich like you think ;-) but now seriously: I’ve collected my horns in two decades, and never paid the highest prices, because I could and can make an overhaul of not playable vintage saxes by myself.
