Thanks for making a video about my wallpaper pack! I put a lot of love and care into this pack, and I'm glad it paid off. I think the world really needed an extensive archive of Windows wallpapers, especially with how much love they've had over the years. Also to clarify about the unlinked ones: that's because it's a version that shares the same folder as the one previously linked, e.g NT 3.1 and NT 3.51. I think I'll just link them to avoid confusion.
really cool seeing somebody archiving all this historical wallpapers, like the actual ones not just a recreation of it, because its like a window (pun totally intended) into a simple era and a still of what that time was for so many people. I hope you get to add the official OS-Tan wallpapers that Michael showcased here in his video, because those are really well made and pretty cool.
You can find many of those in the OS Sound Kit, on the same DeviantArt page (run by me). I do also have a better and larger archive of tech sounds (including Windows) in the works too.
@@fusoxide Hopefully it's more accurate than Sectorwire's version of the kit. Plus, both of what you described include fanmade stuff in addition to other operating systems.
Those are such beautiful wallpapers. Windows XP has my favourite wallpapers, which any version of Windows has ever had. My favourite wallpaper of Windows XP is the Bliss wallpaper.
I find it interesting how some wallpapers in the Win 3.x days didn't always appear on some floppy versions (like the party ribbons aren't always on 3.0 for instance.) The same seems to happen with some Windows 3.1 screen savers as well.
Windows For Workgroups 3.11 omitted some wallpapers and most of the screen savers from the stock Windows 3.1 release to save on disk space. Microsoft used to offer the missing content as a single download on their FTP site.
I have seen every single Windows default wallpaper and the best one by far is Bliss, but the pack is missing Rick A... Anyways great to see you reviewing fan projects and also keep up with the high quality videos Michael MJD!
Thanks for uploading all of these (to the archivist, fusoxide) and to Michael MJD for making this video. I'm sad that it's gonna take me ages to download all of this lol. Google Drive has a 15GB limit, why not put the full 12GB archive on there?
I only put the 2GB archive on there because I wanted to have a smaller version that's easier for people to download (and quicker than manually selecting folders on MEGA). I'll consider mirroring the whole archive to Google Drive too though.
Nice pack. Got me thinking about Screen Savers as well. How every Windows version had them but these days not many use them. Opting instead to let there flat screen monitor turn off in power saving mode.
Marble, Red brick, Castle, Arcade were my faves back in the day 30 yrs ago, always ported/transfered them when I got Win 95/98 machines, some reason stopped doing it in Win XP, lol
Now that'd be interesting. Now combine both of them and get Linux as well (which is probably asking for a bit too much considering Linux distros are constantly being updated and made).
Having all the original Windows wallpapers is great but man, all I ever want in my life is a widescreen 4K version of Windows 95's setup.bmp. I suppose I could always upscale it. Also, fan made wallpapers are often hit or miss: it always irks me when they use the wrong font or high bitrate photography & graphic design when that wasn't a thing back then.
Many of those fan made wallpaper packs look like a bunch of low-budget attempts of remastering any of Microsoft's old Windows operating systems. (4:29) Now all we need is the OEM wallpapers from the Windows 3.1 to Windows 11 era preserved in a separate pack, where PC manufactures like HP, Dell, Toshiba and others had their own branding. Basically a similar project to the Ultimate Windows Wallpaper Pack.
I wonder if they add wallpapers from various games like Bejeweled 2, Bejeweled 2 has very unique backgrounds and I would love to have them as my wallpaper.
looking for screensaver it was after 3.0 but before windows 95 it looked like pixelated buttons or keyboard keys moving around the screen with a color ribbon behind it eventually covering the screen with colors.
Wow ... this even has stuff here not even in Sectorwire's version of the OSMK mockup kit, which is a huge collection of wallpapers and sounds not just from Windows, but also other operating systems (and also fanmade stuff as well) but while the total pack there is 15.85 GB only about 9 GB is actually the graphics. I wouldn't mind if the same developer started an Ultimate Windows sounds collection to compliment the wallpapers. I'd even be cool with an Ultimate windows Videos collection, but I don't think there's enough video files for something like that.
It's not 15.85GB anymore, plus that's the old version of Revan that you were referring to (which is 2.5 years out-of-date). The new one (Revan Zenith) has been already out for 3 months now.
it would be really useful for me cause recently I was working on a windows simulator for my silly little project for college. and btw I had to use random clouds picture for win98 lmao because I couldn't find it on Google too
